Title: Compton Rendezvous
Post by: Lonesome Wind on June 22, 2009, 07:57:00 AM
As a Compton board member I'd like to give our heartfelt thanks to all who jumped in and helped last weekend at the shoot. It's because of members like all of you that were able to pull off as much of the shoot that we were.
Hat's off to all the vendors who stuck it out and made the best of a terrible situation, you guys are the tops in my book.
Thanks to all of you who were generous with your money in the raffles and the auctions, even though you had a half-wit derlict for an auctioneer Fri. nite!
I have several pictures I'll try to get posted tonite, again THANKS to all of you who make this organization great!

I thought that auctioneer was the best we've had to date! He sure did a great job of working the crowd for their $$$.

Some bad weather won't stop the trad community from having a great time. Thank you and all the Board members of Compton for another great event and I will see you next June again.

Amen Vince.

As a life-member of Compton, as a vendor, and also as just another archer I can say it was good to see everyone once again.  Being stuck in the booth 99% of the time didn't allow as much visiting as I would have preferred, but that's the toll we pay for being vendors.

The way that everyone jumped in and helped out when the big vendor tent went down early Friday morning was a testament to the good and clear hearts of our trad archery brotherhood and sisterhood.

Let me add my thanks to all who worked so hard to put on this fine event.

Great job Vince, although I think the arrows were pricey! Just kidding. I agree, many joined in to help right the ship and move forward. There were more smiles than frowns by the end.
By the way, are those arrows I won right or left wing?

Their rights owlbait. I was schocked that those arrows brought that much. I thought that I was the only goofball shooting that heavy of an arrow out of a 50lb bow!
I attend a lot of events thru the year and I can honestly saw that I've never witnessed the giving & selflessness that was displayed in Michigan this year. Only in the traditional community do you see total strangers chipping in to help with nothing expected in return. I did not hear one report of anything being stolen from a vendor.
While working the archive booth I got to witness an older gentelman purchase an archive book for a young man he did not know until the moment the young man stepped up to the booth.
That's what makes me do what I do, all the great people in the trad community that pull for one another. As long as you all keep doing the great things you do I'll try to do my little part for the trad community.
If anybody has any suggestions on something we could've done different this weekend please let us know!
Thanks again for all you're generosity!

let me tell a cool experience i had this year at compton, my daughter was doing the kids day shoot on sat and was having a great time, when one of the volunteer instuctors approached me and asked if he could do something for my daughter. he proceeded to tell me about how lovley and polite my daughter was, and asked to give her something he then took off a necklace he was wearing, and gave it to her, it was a handmade necklace with a single bear claw on it from a bear he had killed in canada. i am sure this probaly had a deep meaning with lots of memories  for him. i wish i new his name, all i can rember was the other guys were giving him a hard time because of his pony tail he has, to whom that gentlemen was i dont know but thank you for your kindness and she is still wearing very it proudley.  traditional folks are the best.

What an amazing experience!  This was my first Compton as a vendor, and to see the spirit of all the people who jumped in to help make a bad situation good was just incredible!  So many people did whatever it took to dig everything out, taking care to keep it all in as good of condition as possible.  I am deeply humbled to be associated with such fine people!  Thank you all so much!

And to the Compton board members and volunteers who worked twice as hard as normal to keep things moving along the entire weekend - Wow!  What an effort!  The amount of work that they all put into it is always amazing, but this year was herculean!

Yes, the mother nature had her way, and took a toll on this years event.  But it was almost worth it all just to witness the resiliance of everyone invovled.  It brought everyone even closer together and made it feel like being a part of a huge family effort.

Thank You!!  :notworthy:    :notworthy:    :notworthy:

flightmedic, I know who you are talking about. I heard him tell that story to couple different people Sat night. He realy enjoys doing that for kids that show extra interest. His name is Nick. He comes there every year with his wife Brenda. They are working all weekend long. She runs the kids dutch oven cooking, dutch oven contest, info booth and much more. In fact they are the main reason we come to help as they are so much fun to work with.
