Title: My Latest Bow Project
Post by: CCWhitetail on June 22, 2009, 07:53:00 AM
A good friend brought a bow by one day that he had
just got back from someone that he had lent it to.
Well it was not taken care of.  As soon as I started
to draw it back, I realized the limbs were badly twisted.
I think it may have been overdrawn for one thing.
The brace height was over 9" if I recall.

Anyway I offered to try and straighten it out.
I also decided that I wanted to refinish it for him because
the riser was a mess. ( He doesn't know that part yet).
Anyways, it is an Allegheny Mountain recurve 55 # at 28".

I took a few pieces of wood, and made a few notches,
and clamped it in past the twist, and put a heatgun on it.
I would heat it up, and let it cool, and continue that process
being careful not to overheat it.
NOTE:  I don't know what I am doing, but I am a cabinet maker,
and have done plenty of custom radius work, and even done
some steaming.
Anyways, I did this for two weeks.  After one week it was
alot better, and shootable.
After the 2nd week it was better, and shoots pretty daggone good.
I hit better with it than my Longbow.
I might try to get him to sell it to me..........mayby I shouldn't have
refinished it and made it look good.

Here are some pics:

I told him I wanted to buy it off of him,

Eric, you definitely have the "sickness" now, full blown. I can't wait for that phone call from you that you "dropped one".

Check your PM's for that info we talked about.

Nice job.
