Title: fletching removal w/wraps
Post by: olddogrib on June 22, 2009, 06:20:00 AM
Naver had arrows with wraps before.  Is there a trick to removing the fletches without gouging the wrap?  I usually use a tool similar to a box cutter with narrow, break-off blades.

The feather, wrap and glue make a chemical bond.  I have never been able to remove a fletch with out the wrap comming along with it.

On my carbon arrows with wraps, I have been able to remove the flecth when the flecth was put on with flecth tape. When I used glue I had to remove the whole wrap and all.

I use my wifes hair dryer and once you heat them up the wraps peel off. They are cheap enough that I personally wouldn't try to save them. I use fletching tape and have real good adhesion.

I hate wraps for that very reason.

I also have been able to pull the fletching off with my fingernails if tape was used. It's not perfect, but they'll do for stumping arrows. When I do need to pull the wraps off, I use an hair dryer and pick at them until they are gone.

wraps sound like more work, fuss and expense to me.

They can be a pain to take off, but I think the fletching sticks much better with wraps than bare carbon shafts, and they are extremely easy to put on.

Wrap are zero fuss, really.  You will spend more time trying not to gouge a quality cresting job that I do just slapping on a new wrap.

You can skin, wrap and fletch a shaft in under fifteen minutes.

Love wraps on carbons, they work exceptionally well with Fletch-tite as an adhesive.  I wouldn't bother trying to remove fletch w/o replacing the wrap.  I use my thumb nail to remove fletch and wrap in one fell swoop, clean shaft with iso alcohol and you're good to start over.  On some of my MFX carbon's, I've replaced the wrap and fletch several times, no problem.  You get very good at it.

I believe he was asking about removing the fletching and keep the wraps on there intact.I always use wraps on my carbons,I can remove them alot easier then scraping the shaft possibly causing damage especially the woodgrain carbons.Wraps are easy and cheap these days.I wouldn't fletch a carbon without using wraps.

"I wouldn't bother trying to remove fletch w/o replacing the wrap"

I understood his question JRY309.  I agree with what you are saying as well.  I believe we are saying the same thing  :)
