Title: Collars for AD Trads?
Post by: Covey on June 21, 2009, 01:26:00 PM
I broke 2 tips off my ad trads yesterday at a shoot, and I was wondering if these things really work? if I keep breaking the tips off my arrows its gonna get expensive! I use a 100 grn brass insert, do these things work with the inserts or are they weighted? I've never seen one so I don't know how they work! Thanks in advance, Jason

3 Rivers has them on their site. I saw a picture of an arrow with one and one without and both were shot into a tree.  The collared one wasnt phased after multiple shots and the one without split on the first shot.

I think the collars at 3rivers only fit their Trad Only shafts not the AD. I just rec'd some hammerhead Trad lites and they seem VERY tough. Bounced them off a bunch of stuff so far and they have held up well.

Paul at badgerarrow is sending me 1/2 doz.AD trad lites with collars installed so i guess they must fit.

Alum footings work well for me.  2117 fit my goldtips.  Don't know about AD trads.  I have never mushroomed a footed tip.  I have broke an arrow behind the insert but that's just carbon for you.

I have been shooting my AD Hammerheads that Paul at Badger built me with the collars. They don't pull out of bag targets very well, but as long as they hold together on the cape buffalo I hope to shoot with them I will be happy. The arrows seem to be just about bomb proof with the collars. I like them and would get them again. They fit on the shafts before the brass inserts are installed and are held on primarily by the inserts. The fit was tight enough on the inserts that Paul had to lightly sand the forward ends of the shafts to get them to slide on.

Mine broke right behind the insert, anybody foot these with aluminum? if so what size aluminum shaft do you use? The AD's have been very tough for the most part but would like to make them a little tougher if I can! Thanks, Jason

I just shot one of my AD trad lites right into a rock and the collar worked great... no damage to the arrow itself, but my field tip bent.

You might try an insert I think a MFX beman will fit inside the shaft behind the insert

The collars made for Arrow Dynamic shafts are shaft specific, if want collars for Trad Lites you will need to order Trad Lite collars.  Some do fit very tight but, with a little sanding of the shaft they will fit.  When used with a brass insert you will have one tough arrow.

Jason if you are very hard on your arrows, you may want to give the Hammerheads a try, with the added carbon up front it acts as a footed shaft.
They come in both Trad and Trad Lite.
