the new bow i ordered finally arrived yesterday.
the lower limb has some streaks in the glass on the belly side.is this something i should be worried about or is the bow shootable?i took a couple pics.

Nothing to worry about and yes it is shootable. More visible in dark bows. dino

I have a bow with some streaks,have had that bow for over 10 years with no problems.Like dino said it is more visible in darker woods.
As a budding bowyer, it's really frustrating! Much, if not most, of the clear glass available has these streaks. It's cosmetic only, but a real kick in the guts. It's very hard, or sometimes impossible, to detect before glue-up. Many times you can only really notice it in the sun light. Like has been already mentioned, it usually is more apparent against a darker limb.
shame you waited so long for a new bow and it come looking like that. I had one with small white streaks a few years ago and the more I shot it the bigger the streaks got. actually started to delam. I finally contacted the bower and he took care of it right away. I don't think any reputable bower wants his product out there looking like that. like Apex Predator said "a real kick in the guts".

Be sure and send those pics to the bow company ,they need to know.
Most streaking I've seen were very narrow and might repeat hit/miss the full length of the bow about the same distance from the edge of the original pc of glass(before limb shaping).
I built a red elm bow that had a dimesized spot at the end of the riser fade,it blew up eventually. Binghams told me the epon versamid soaked into red elm and probably didn't have enuff glue in the joint.Since going to smoothon,no probs.
I also built one with the narrow streaks that repeated here and there along the whole bow,shot it for 2 years,went for a mule wreck with it(cracked in handle,fixed),and still have it and shoot it occasionally.
On a brand new bow that you plunked down your hardearned money for,I would at least make sure the bow company knows about it and give em a chance to take care of it!
I have seen this many times from some of the Top bowyers out there, simply cosmetic they tell me, when they get this from Gordon Glass Co. they are stuck with it and like Apex says, you dont always know it's there till the end result ...
Seen it happen and from what I've heard, it's only cosmetic. If it turns into something that makes the bow unusable, your bowyer should make it right. :thumbsup:
I had same problem in my new bow and contacted the bowyer and he said shoot the bow while I make you a new one.Awesome customer service would like to recommend them but wouldn't want him to think I was on here trash talking his bows(the one with spots). He also told me that problem arises with glass and also certain woods oils but guaranteed it was just cosmetic and would be fine,I couldn't decide what to do until he suggested he make another.He is a sponsor and as he said nobody wants their customer unhappy in such a closeknit relatively small market. Contact the bowyer I have a hunch he will want to be sure your happy with the bow and will make it right.
I should add that I've never had one as bad as your photos.
I have a bow built in 2001 that has the same streaks. As stated the limbs are dark and it does show up worse in the sun light. Very shootable no worries. Call the bowyer and see if they will do anything about it if it bothers you. Most of them would be happy to ease your mind.
Those streaks are normal for some brands of fiberglass. If I were the bowyer, I'd send it back and go to another supplier. It's just cosmetic, though, and will not hurt the bow.
I have never seen a Howard Hill bow with those streaks, but I've never seen a St. Charles without them.
sounds like things worked out very well for huntindad and, most everyone else seems to think the bower will want to make it right. I'd sure make him aware of the situation.
