Post by: wv lungbuster on June 17, 2009, 10:39:00 AM
I was wandering if any T Gang members use this attractant and how well it works.

I have in the past and deer in my area tear them up..
Try and put it near a trail and at the base of a tree or stump.

The deer here in Texas love em. I use them to stop a deer long enough for a shot. Put them out in such a way that the deer will pause and put its head down and give you a close broadside shot.

Won't take long and they'll lick that thing down into the ground......which is good.

i have used them too on our property. the deer like them.  however, i dont know if they are any better than a normal salt block or a trace mineral block that you can get for 5$ at the feed mill. i had both a trophy rock and a white salt block about 400yds apart...they both got hit about the same, so the only difference i see is 5$ vs 20$

Never used them but......

If your using them on public lands be sure to check regs in your state, because they do/can consider them bait.

I have used them on my land for 4 years and they work real good, and it makes a great site to put your camera on to see what you got for deer,

I have used the same loose stock salt and minerals I put out for my horses for years.
Deer will dig a hole 3 feet deep trying to get every last bite....works great and the price is right.

i was using regular suplemental minerals and had them coming very good--they actually ate a stump.  they come even when i have not put any out oin a while looking for the minerals.  they know when they need the mineral for their bodies.  although the trophy rock has been proven not to help produce/increase antler growth they still get the salt.  we are putting the rock and minerals together.  they seem to like the trophy rock pretty well.  i can tell they are licking it regular--it is nice and shiny.  a good product to keep them around, but not so good for growth/development

50lb of red trace minerals
50lb of dicalcium phosphate
25lb of ag lime

Mix and apply
A lot less salt and more mineral characteristics found in antlers.

Trophy Rock is mined sea salt with whatever trace minerals are available in the area it comes from. This mix is a lot cheaper and very effective. Bucks utilize it heavily during the antler growing periods such as now. Does will hit it heavily in the last trimester of their pregnancies.
