I have been able to get broadheads very sharp for some time now... HOWEVER, I was not consistant at getting them truely scary sharp - you know, so sharp that picking them up makes you think... Well after Ron at KME sent me a sharpener, and playin around with it ... I can now say I have really got it down. I start with diamond stones 340 grit, 600, 800, 1200 then finish it off with a 5000 grit wetstone. I have mainly sharpened grizzly broadheads and the edges are so polished when i am done they look like mirrors and as smooth and polished as you can imagine... but the best part - SHARP... and I mean sharp... the Griz also holds that edge so well it is surprising. I sometimes wonder is the fine polishing helps ? Anyway - just thought Id share a smile
you must be a patient man .. how long does it take to sharpen one as you describe ? I have a KME sharpener and I have failed the test at getting a truely sharp broadhead with it ... I do better with a file and chock sticks, shaves hair.
Maybe I could just sent my broadheads to you for a small fee ???
elkken,
If you can't get them sharp with the KME give them a call and Ron will walk you through it. He's a great guy and wants his product to work for you, he did it for me.

From start to finish I spend 30 minutes per Grizzly. I spend about 10 touching one up.
Call Ron and ask him for help... Ill be more than happy to help you if needed, you can call me too if you like-my number is on my website- Inshore Power Boats (the number is my number - its my site) Google the name and you will find me...

I don't shoot grizzlies, got some from Ron Pre-sharpened to check out his services...but it only took me 10 minutes tops to do my 1st head with the KME.....a Zephyr Sasquatch. Maybe it didn't need the attention a grizz needs...but i sure got it sharp that's for sure.
I've spoken with Ron on the phone and he explained exactly how to use both of his systems. If you're having any issues at all, he'll be able to get you on the right track.
I know this post is specific to broadheads, I'll probably start a new thread an the knife sharpener, but I wanted to jump in and say that the knife sharpener is fantastic! (Broadheads can be sharpened on the knife system too.)
I'm pretty good at file and stone sharpening, but this thing keeps my angles perfect. With the system I'm in complete control. Ohhh... And that ultra-smooth black stone... Awesome.
It's the best hand-held sharpening system I've ever seen. Both of his systems have lifetime guarantees too. todd
broadheads, knives - all blades we use during and after trad bowhunting - it's all good! :scared:
i just can't rave enough about the kme - it's a precision tool that will get the job done fast, for both novice and pro. if you bowhunt with twin main blades, you really should think about getting this sharpener.
Elkken.... you have the the means now you just need the technique... call Ron at KME.
It takes me about 25 minutes/griz head initially, but only about 5 to touch up after a hit/miss into the dirt!
