Title: large 2 blades
Post by: Steel on June 14, 2009, 02:21:00 PM
How many of you guys have taken game with some of the larger fixed 2 blade broadheads around 1.5" cut(Sasquatch,Silver flame Xl,Larger bone head and others)? What are thoughts about penetration and overall performance on deer, hogs, turkey? Anyone shot game with these huge heads around 50lbs with shorter draw length around 27"? I have always shot smaller cutting heads and was thinking of trying a few big boys this summer on average size hogs.

Use the simmoms from bows that are around 43-44lbs at my 26" draw.Never had any trouble getting two holes in deer and hogs even with the 2" wide treeshark.I use the smaller 1 9/16 wide sharks from my 40lb bows and have had no trouble with getting two holes with them either but have only shot one hog with that weight.

I've shot quite a few hogs with 46-48@27 straight longbows and 1.5" wide Magnus Is.  Work great with the heavy arrows I shoot.

I have shot 3 pigs and a turkey with the Silverflame XL. Blood trails on the pigs were all excellent - way better than with the 1 1/8" Silverflame. I am leaving for Africa this week and will test out the Silverflames on some bigger animals there.

Here's an oddball for ya - 175 grain Eastman Big 5 - titanium ferrule, 1&5/8" cut.

Got this hog quartering away, right behind the ribcage - the head hit parallel to the ground, sliced through the inside of both lungs, chopped off the top of the heart where all the tubes connect, and exited the neck cutting the jugular vein.  The hog managed to snap the arrow off as soon as it went through the neck.

This was with a 45#@28" ACS longbow pulled to about 27-27.5", somewhere between 15 and 20 yards. (http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa83/al_in_wv/P5180739.jpg)

Have shot several deer with the magnus 1 and zwickey delta out of bows 45-50lbs.  Always 2 holes, a lot of blood and haven't had one make it out of sight yet.  Makes tracking real easy.

Great info guys that really helps make up my mind its OK to try these out in the field. I have three of the Sasquatch heads but never had took them afield they just look so huge I was alittle worried about trying them on medium size game. My buddy said the look like a flying axe  :D .

Not sure about your draw weight...but I've killed most ALL of my game with wide heads and wide multiblades.  Sasquatches, ACE Super, Large Bone Buster Abowyer, and Zwickey Delta 4 blades(since the mid 80s)

I also really like the original Wensel Woodsman on hogs as well.

Just get them sharp and you should be fine on deer all day long....just watch out for the bigger shielded hogs and take an appropriate head in case ya run into a heavy shielded boar.

Used a Sasquatch on everything before they got hard to find. Caribou, bear and deer with no problems out of a #60 bow. Just bought another half dozen.
