Title: 160 Grain Broadheads
Post by: Scioto on June 11, 2009, 06:03:00 PM
I am planning to put some 160 gr glue-on broadheads on my cedars to help up the weight a bit. I have found that Ace, STOs and Grizzlies are available in this weight. What is your preference among the 3?

I currently use Ribtek 160's, but due to their limited availabilty (I've only got 4 left), I'm thinking about making the switch to the Ace heads. Like to hear also about what each ones has over the other.

I've been shooting the Ace Express 165 for several years now and am very satisfied with them.  I like the extra width, length and the straight edge is easier for me to sharpen.  They sharpen nicely, get very sharp and seem to hold the edge very well.  The Express probably isn't as tough as the Standard with the triple thick tip, but I've not yet managed to bend or break an Express.

The STOS and Griz are clearly good broadheads, but esp for the whitetails I'm hunting I much prefer the wider head.  If you really want to up the weight, the 200 gr Ace Super Express is another great option.

They are all too good for me to pick just one.

Don't forget about the big Magnus I 160 2 blade, another great option.

Of those three choices, I'd take the Ace Standard hands down.

for woodies - any 125 grain broadhead you like, plus a 40 to 60 grain nail footing in the shaft using the braveheart footing jig.

two real good benefits using the jig - larger choice of broadheads, stronger and more durable wood shaft.

I like Ace and Stos but the Stos were easier to sharpen, for my limited ability.

I'm using the 160 stos right now on my wood arrows, but I will be trying the 160 ACE as soon as I can get them off backorder.

I do like the idea of the nail jig thing though.
