Let's say you are getting a brand new bow and are looking to get the arrows "tuned". How would you do that.
I have almost 20 years of bowhunting experience but have way more knowlege dealing with cams and drop aways as far as tinkering than with trad gear. I have BW PSAII on the way with CE Heritage 250's.
I am starting with 200gr points and broadheads to begin with but will shoot anything that tunes well.
So the questions I want to answer are....
1. How many shots should I take before I can be somewhat confident that my string is "shot in"?
2. What methods do you employ to tune the bow to the best Brace height as well as nocking point. Take into account that I am very familiar with bow tuning for compounds, however sometimes there is an overlap in the definitions of how techniques are used from compound to trad. More importantly is it tune the arrow then the bow, or bow then the arrow?
thanks guys. I have ordered the whole Masters of the Barebow series and am trying to spend as much time as possible on the forums researching tuning for trad, but figure there are a few horse's here!

Hi Zeke! The BW will have a low stretch string on it..D97? So, you can shoot 60-100 arrows through it and keep checking the brace height. It should stabilize by then. The bow site that Defiant1 has listed is a great resource for setting nock, brace height, etc. Has your bow arrived yet?
Nope, just ordered it beginning of the week, but hopefully they could sense the intensity in my voice and will be hacking away asap!

Another helpful tool is the Dynamic Spine Calculator. There is a new version of it in a thread in the PowWow near the top of the forum. You just plug in the numbers for you bow and the numbers for your arrow and you can tell how close you are. You can also put in other arrows to find something that will be close to right for your set-up. I have used this calculator and it will get you very close to what you need if not right on.

When I bought my first bow years ago I was handed a copy of Easton's tuneing guide and told this is the way to do it.Although the kind of bows I shoot has changed a few times the tuneing process is always the same.Every method you see for tuneing is just a variation of Easton's guide.I suggest downloading the guide and starting there.You should never have tuning problems again.jmo
