I'm installing brass inserts for the first time and I'm a little confused. I have Easton ST Epic N-fused shafts that are 9/32 diameter. I ordered the 100 grain 9/32 brass inserts. I was expecting them to be a very snug fit based on posts I've read but they are quite loose. I also bought 2 part epoxy to install them. I'd appreciate any help you could give me on the best way to install them and whether or not the insert should be this loose.
Thanks,
Zane
I don't know about those arrows but I have learned through trial and error that you need to sand/rough up the inserts before you glue them in. I think there is some sort of film/coating on then that makes them not stick well and easily pull out in targets. Once I started sanding mine I have not had an insert pull out since. I use the 5/16" in Gold Tip arrows and they are a bit loose but not sloppy loose.

Have you found that your inserts fit tightly in the shaft or are they loose?
My inserts fit fairly tight in my GT's, I don't think they should be sloppy because you may have alignment problems. Make sure your two part epoxy is slow cure, the five minuet stuff is too brittle.
Not sure, but I think the Epic is a different diameter than the Axis that the 9/32 was made for... only reason I say that is because the inserts I've seen in the adds are different and I know they don't take the same nocks...
The ST Epic's are alittle different diameter,I haven't seen brass inserts for the ST Epic's.Those 9/32" brass inserts are for Axis/MFX that use HIT insert technolgy. The ST Epic use HP inserts and H-nocks.
Where did you get the brass inserts from? Like JR said they are for the MFX HIT (Hidden Insert Tech) shafts. You need to use Eastons HP(High precision) inserts. The two are not inter-changable.
When you get the proper inserts consider using
J-B Weld to glue them in..
Thanks guys,
It's a little frustrating because I was concerned about them being a different diameter from the beginning. The Easton website shows them as a "smaller diameter" but isn't clear on exactly which size they are. Several sites listed them as 9/32 so I assumed they were the same size. I guess the best thing to do at this point is sell these shafts and get either mfx or axis shafts since I've ordered everything, including wraps, for that size diameter. If you know anyone who would want to buy these I'm about to post them.
Call three rivers they should be able to get you what you need.
epics are most definitely a smaller diameter than regular ICS 5/16"s carbons. And, they are slightly bigger than axis/mfx shafts.
Texas,
To my knowledge there are no brass inserts made for the Epic shafts. The brass inserts that are made fit the axis/mfx, cx/gt/t.o., and arrow dynamic shafts fit snug in each of them. dino
I have been using Easton HIT glue to glue them in my CX heritage arrows. No special prep just put on the glue and stick them in. I have been shooting them for a year and a half and never had one come out might think about giving it a try.
