My buddy has a lefty thunderbird longbow I'm considering buying. It's osage 47#@ 26" made by Dave Johnson. It seems like it shoots good but I've never heard one before.Any info appreciated.
Dave had been around for quite a while, just kinda quiet. From Indiana as I recall. Good solid bows.
Yes they are good solid bows, like said Dave has been around for a long time.He also has the Thunderbird finish used for bows and arrows.I have used his finish for wood arrows, great product.
Bought a Thunderbird from Dave about 13 years ago for my son. It is about 58" and pulls about 25# @ 23" and is called "Pooh Bear" ,which Dave named it and painted on the limb. It is one of the nicest bows I have seen and the riser is Osage. Called him up a couple of years ago to get another one, son has grown a little over 13 years, and he dosn't make them anymore. Based on the quality of the bow I have I wouldn't hesitate. Alot of kids have shot Pooh Bear and still do. If I ever run across one pulling 47 - 48# I am buying it. Right hand though.
I have talked to him a few times. He sounded like a real nice guy. I want to say he lives in Linton. I waited to long before I decided to have him build me a bow. When I wanted one from him, he stopped making them. I shot one that someone built using his old forms. It was #63@28, shot nice even if it was that heavy. It was real pretty. I wish I would of bought it.
