Title: st axis n fused shafts
Post by: flyguysc on June 07, 2009, 02:19:00 PM
Does anyone have these shafts? I will be shooting them out of a Mohawk 62" 52# @26 draw length. I`am going for 28.25 arrow length with bare shaft testing. My only experience with carbons is Beman`s ICS bow hunters.

Thanks In Advance
Gary

I've been using them with my new Saluki Turk. They are flying darts, excellent shaft in my opinion.

I shoot them but I don't worry about the length my carbons end up at.I tune them for the proper dynamic spine and what ever length they end up  at is where I leave them.Trying to get them to bareshaft and end up at 28.25" can be a hit or miss.Carbon arrows don't come in as many different spines as wood or aluminum.

I second JRY309's observation.  My father and I bare shaft tuned and he ended up with the 400 series with a 100 grain insert and 200 grain tip and I ended up shooting the 500 series with a 100 grain insert and 200 grain tip.  Let the tuning tell you what the shaft length will be otherwise you will end up very frustrated.  Other than that the shafts are frickin great!!  I have intentionally bounced them off rocks and trees and they are no worse for the wear! They shoot like a bullet out of my 62" Black Widow PMA pulling 49 lbs at 28" draw.

Oh one more thing...with your set-up buy one 500 series and one 400 series and tune them both to whatever the bow likes then pick which arrow length you like the most from the tuned set.  I am betting you end up in the 500 series range if you shoot the inserts and points similar to mine.  Good luck!

All of my arrows are Axis N Fused 340s cut to 31" with 300XTREEMS up front.  My bow is a 63# Morrison ILF recurve. I'm sold on the shafts . . . pretty tough.

I have just got into the carbon scene.  Am president of the Alberta Bowhunters assoc and we had Fred Eichler to our 2009 banquet.  In talking to him and others the past while I tried the Axis 400s out of my 50# recurve.  Full length arrows, 3 5" feathers with 100 gr inserts and 150 gr 4 blade Magnus bhead were too stiff.  I went to the 500s and at full length were too weak.  I ended up cutting them to 30 1/2 and they fly like darts.  Took a nice black bear last week with the set up and am very impressed!! Have more arrows coming.

Albertan,

You look familiar...did you have an article in one of the major bowhunting magazines with you behind a monster buck?
