Title: Hill Bows and nocking points
Post by: ToxophilitePastor on June 06, 2009, 10:55:00 AM
My son and I were discussing the large difference between his nocking point and mine on our Hill bows. We are curious, where do you set your nocking point on your Hill style bow?

Mine's at 3/8" above center. I nock the arrow below the string nock, and shoot split fingered. Makes a difference if you shoot 3 under, though.

Same, same - 3/8". Arrow diameter is going to make a difference too.

I nock all my bows, including Hills, 9/16 to 5/8-inch above the shelf and nock the (wood) arrow under, shooting split fingers.  Where you nock depends a lot on how you grab/put pressure on the string with your shooting hand.  Varies from individual to individual.  Of course, bow style, tillering, arrow diameter also have an influence on nock height.

I find 1/2" works on most of mine, split fingered... 5/8" and a smidge three under.   Don't know how significant it is, but I shoot really skinny arrows and have a small hand.

David Miller told me that HH had his at 1/4". He nocked above the nocking point. He also fletched his arrows with the feathers as far back as he could, but clear off his gloved fingers.

God bless,

Jose

Mine set at 3/16 above center, and I nock above the nocking point with 11/32 nocks.  Brace height is at 6 1/8 consistently and my feathers are back as far as possible, event touching my gloves.
