Title: Donations needed for our troops!
Post by: autobows on June 05, 2009, 11:12:00 AM
I recently talked to SGT. Jason Newman after reading that he was interested in buying an inexpensive longbow. I have decided to donate him one of the last new ones I have as well as some arrowbuilding supplies, which is all leftover inventory for me.
He told me the guys are hungry for any traditional archery equipment and he is currently trying to show them how to make flemish strings but he does not have the material.
I am willing to donate my last 1# B-50, but unfortunately that is all I have.
Are there any archers or clubs willing to make any traditional archery donations?
His e-mail is kksdad@hotmail.com
His company will be deeply grateful for anything at all.  His address is SGT. Jason Newman, 30thBSTB, BCO 30thBSTB, FOB FALCON, APO AE 09361
Thank you and May God Bless to any of you who donate!

How about a shopping list? Don't be shy, be specific!

I will be shopping at ATAR, btw, and would be glad to pick up a few things to send over. But that is a month away, plus shipping time. If we had a list of specific items and quantities, the family here at the 'Gang could see what they had on hand and post what they send, x'ing out items on the list as we go. That would avoid duplicates and stuff you don't want or need.

TTT for the evening crowd.

If you need arrows, we need to know what spine.
Do you have stringers? String wax would likely get to you in liquid form, so maybe that can't be sent. Spare nocks for you Robin Hoods, we would need to know nock diameter...see what I mean?

Be linear, man!

Did anybody think of getting ahold of Dale at three rivers, bet he would make a good deal on some basics as long as he knew the cause, maybee even at cost. Just a thought.

The more I think about it makes sense to take up a donation and talk with Three Rivers. The stuff would come to the troops in one box, we could get gloves or tabs in the right sizes, and most items would probably work  together better than a mix of partial rolls etc. If this is not feasable I have some b-50 and will check to see what other stuff I have. Alot of my extras have outfitted my youngest brother who just got out of the Marines in dec.

Well, I am sending a box of "stuff". If they can't use it now when the other stuff comes in I bet they will find a way to make use. For after all, they are the best. They know how to make do with whats on hand.
Thanks Jason.

I have gloves, tabs, stringers, feathers, loads of nocks, broadheads, cedar shafts, videos, some books plus 1 longbow. (I'm almost out of field points, except for 5/16")
I imagine there is probably enough interest in archery that duplicates may not be a problem.
If anyone wants to ship items to me to send don't hesitate.  My addresss is Cheryl Stahl, 22523 St. Rt. 613, Oakwood, Oh. 45873
DWT,
I think contacting Three Rivers would be an excellent idea, and possibly Kustom King too.
Does anyone want to contact them or would you all prefer that I do it?
Let me know.
On behalf of Jason and the "Deuce" Co.,to all who have donated I send out a special Thank You!
Cheryl Stahl

one bow is not enough. I will send a recurve and anything else I can dig up, but all good useable stuff. The Albert family sincerely thanks you and all your comrades. You probably could use a stringer or two. God Bless you .

On another thread it was mentioned that communications were being cut for a few days in Iraq. Probably related to the Vice President being on the ground there or the withdrawals, either or it was a security issue. It may take a few more days before the guys are back online so he can respond.

Looks like the MLA has been on this for some time (Since 2004) donating all kinds of gear. Big thumbs up for them on that. Maybe somebody from MLA can give us a update on what is happening now.

This link is to the official MLA site and has many pictures from Iraq. There are several ranges set up with some basic information about them.

The bow in the pic looks like the bow I sent a few months ago, a Ragim. Anyway, you don't send to Iraq, you send to an army terminal in the US and they send it over there. Takes about 6 weeks, btw, so if you want to get something over, do it quick. I'll try to get some more things out

I mailed a bow and a bunch of accessories usps. It only cost 18.00 and change and 8.oo of it was a balloon fee because the box was so long. worth way more than that to help these guys. The lady said stuff going to soldiers goes to NY, and from there the armed forces take over and it takes about ten days to arrive. Not bad.

I am sending a 64" Herters Sambar with an elevated rest.  I think it is about 50# at 28".  I am sending 6 2114 arrows and an additional dozen nocks.  My wife is donating her takedown recurve that started as a 35# AIM, that we refinished and replaced all of the plastic parts with machined brass parts.  Looks nice now and we added a set of 40# limbs to it.  No arrows with that one though.  We'll try and find a box big enough and will ship it out this week.  Thanks for your service,

John, I an sure that Herters will get a work out. How are things at the new job?

I have a few things that will hit the mail soon.
These threads excite me as my best friend Russ started in Traditional Archery while on his 1st tour over there and is now an addict. I will bet we will have a few more addicts coming home. It's also frustrating  with a son in a unit at COB Speicher whose Sgt Major wont let them have an archery range or anything other than their issued weapons. Of course there is no good reason.... but hey it's the Sgt Major so its the law. The boy has flown several bows as cargo out to other FOBs. He is frustrated as can be knowing he returns home middle of deer season and will not be ready to hunt after a year lay off.

Thanks to all of you who donated it has a lasting effect on the young men and women doing the toughest of jobs.

Has anyone heard from Jason Newman.

I sent 3 bows, arrows, tabs, stringers, and nick nacks over to Iraq, but I have not heard a thing from him.

My Oregon Hunter's Assn. chapter allocated $300.00 for archery equipment and they want to know how things turned out for the troops, and I don't have an answer for them.

I am in a bit of a pickle here. Can someone help?

Paul
