If you had the option to order a new bow to be FF compatible.....would it be worth it, to you?
Let's say it was a $65 option.
If you think it's worth it, please tell me why. I'm ignorant in this matter.
Thanks.
Jeff
Yes worth it , stronger limb tips- higher resale value if you go another direction
Yes , FF is a better string material than Dacron ( low streach , faster ) plus you would have the option of using any type of string you wanted , FF or Dacron .
Mike
Yes it is worth it for a new bow,the only bows I care to shoot with dacron is older recurves. For all other bows I like D97,the bow feels more solid and not springy, some bows it helps to cut down on handshock,I can shoot a lower brace height. And I don' shoot D97 for any speed increase that everyone talks about, the bow just feels better and more solid.
Just get it Jeff. better have it and not need it than the other way around. Don
Way worth it-more choices of string type and better performance and resale. Of course those things don't mean anything to you-then it is not worth it.
I would not consider buying a bow that would not use modern strings.I would however want to know what cast an extra $65. :)
You mean someone is charging extra to make a bow FF compatible? Interesting. If I really wanted the bow, I'd probably pay for it. I like low stretch materials just for the fact they're low stretch. Those hot, humid August days, on the 3D course can cause dacron to creep quite a bit.
To me it is like a carmaker charging extra for a car that can use radial ply tires! :bigsmyl:
absolutely
BULLSh,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you know! Find another bowyer, my opinion. Bjorn, it's more of a hassle to arder a truck without a/c and at and such, because manufacturting is setup for it! And you mean run- flat. How old are you? Ha, Ha, Good Shootin, to all!
I havn't herd of FF as a option.FF Comes standard on all of our bows. There is a wonderful advantage to FF.But I wouldnt pay $65.00 for it.It's only in the type of limb tip material. We us phenolic tip overlay, and there is no real cost or labor diffrents one way or there other.
It might not be that much of an issue for one piece bows but could be for take down models. For warranty purposes, some bowyers beef up their risers for fast flight. you can't make money long if you honor 100% money back guarantee and have bow risers crack. from a bowyer's point of view, why take the chance? If its just a matter of adding tip overlays, i'm confused as well about the cost increase. Sortof like charging $50 and up for actionboo core upgrades
I would pass on that bow - should not be an added cost option. If the bow is not built well enough for FF, I don't want it.
Steve
I kind of agree with Steve.I have never heard of someone charging extra.Any new bow should be built well enough for any string you want to use or I would be concerned about the bowyer myself. jmo
Sounds like a Silvertip to me.
I believe he's asking hypothetical question not that a bow maker is charging that.
It's not hypothetical.
I would get the FF option it will be worth it!! and why do questions become a bow or bowyer bashing contest! give me a break!!

Besides reinforced tips, what other considerations determine whether or not a bow is FF compatible?
If you own a silvertip, you either don't have a FF compatible bow OR you paid the $65 upcharge.
With todays better materials and glues a properly shaped string groove is all I can think of.I would pass on any new bow that was not FF ready. No way I would ever buy one that someone tryed to charge $65 to do a job right. jmo
Would you like a string with that order?
How about some sort of finish?
Now for every inch longer we charge an
extra$25.00... :biglaugh:
All kidding aside now I can understand if they charge for antler or some sort of special horn etc.
I agree with Bjorn. I recommend fast flite, but don't understand why a bowyer would charge extra for beefing up his bow to handle it. Almost all bowyers nowadays automatically beef up their limb tips to handle fast flite. I've never heard of fast flite causing riser failure.
I don't have the first clue "why". I just wondered. I was going to order the bow, anyway (upcharge or not).
Serious question....If the guys ordering these bows don't have a problem with it....why does anyone else?
