i love the simplicity and style of Hill bows, so i'm looking to build one.
i would love to see some photos of your hill bows. any model, any angle. up close or out in the field. some measurement of limb thickness, width, riser size, and anything else you want to add.
so if you have any pics of your hill floating around your PC i'd love to see them.
thanks
You need to check out the Howard Hill Longbowmen web site, especially the "Showcase" page. dozens of fine Hills shown. here's a link:

I began making bows last winter, Hill styles and flatbows, and I just finished making my best Hill style yet. Here's a link to the bows I've made. The newest one is "Out of the Closet"... Relax... it's named that because it's made out of cedar closet lining... :^)

Nothing like building your own bows... but it'll ruin you. I've got a wall full of fine bows I don't shoot any more.
thanks dick,
i've built a couople of selfies and wood lam bows, have just glued my first glass bow. but i want to try a hill so am ordering some clear glass soon to have a go.
i will check out those links straight away, thanks you very much.
Ouch my arm! Ok, here is my Halfbreed...

I've got 5 myself. Really like the way they shoot and handle. Not the greatest shot of it but, here's me shooting my latest one. It is a Half Breed. 69" and 45# @ 29"

If you take a little time and good attitude and get to know your Hill style, they do shoot... this is Out of the Closet, my home made "Cheetah", at 30 yards. Couldn't get juniper, so I used cedar, core is two lamboos. 66" and 38@28. Smoothest bow I think I've had yet.

I ended up selling the Hill just because it was a little too heavy for me, the Schulz is going nowhere.

otis.drum... Happy to share dimensions. however, at the moment I'm nursing an out of place vertebrae and movement is limited. Usually worst in the morning. If I can, I'll get downstairs today because I have a Hill lefty to ship and am starting to feel guilty because I haven't gotten to it. I'll get measurements then and hopefully post them this afternoon.
no hurry dick, thanks.
thanks for the pics RC.
Ooooh, can I play too! :bigsmyl:

Ok - here's another of my Halfbreed in action on a very cold day. Wool is our buddy.

Nice bows.
I remember when wood arrows were what went with most longbows, especially with Hills (like ham and eggs). Seems they're a rarity these days.
TSP, I shoot wood arrows from my Hill longbow.

Wow, Ben! Where is that place on the pictures? That's a fascinating landscape.
You're looking at the south bank of the mighty Gascoyne River in Western Australia, at one of the few places that holds a few pools; the rest is sand, save for a brief run each year or so.
I have got to go hunt there.
Great photos Ben. I like your simple hunting set-up...straight grip Hill with classic traditional wood arrows. You know, that inferior old-school kind of gear that doesn't work anymore, lol.
love it ben.
thanks ging.
No worries, fellows.
TSP, you'll notice that, as a beginner, I had the brace height way too high in the actual hunting photos there. I got it to a better height in the bottom photo.

Looks like brace height wasn't an issue for you on that hunt, Ben.
My 66" Big Five and Wesley seem to like a 6.5" brace. Though I have other as well use aluminum shafts too, wood will always be my favorite for Hills. It's a great combination.
