I am getting a Golden Retriever in a couple of weeks and have decided that he should definately have an archery related name. I am having a little trouble coming up with something good. Since you are all smarter than me, what say you?
So far we are leaning towards Fletch.
Recurve, Muzzy, osage,
Archer
how about 2feathers!
Tab for a girl, Wensel for a boy. :D
Magnus, Woodsman(woody), Longbow(Bow)
It is simple, call him Bo. This is a picture of a pup that was happy to be named Bo.

Or you could always call him Hunter. The pup with the bird has no problem with that name.

Great suggestions!!! Keep 'em coming.
We have considered Muzzy, Fletch, Bear, and Sitka.
So far I like Fletch and Muzzy. My wife isn't sold on Muzzy.
My best friend has a Lab named Bow so that is out.
Wensel Woodsman of the North. Woody for short. :archer:
Saxton
Howard
or an old Indian name like Pickaspot or Shootagain
What ever you choose enjoy the pup.
A.
Saxton was in the running until a friend had a baby last week and named her son Saxton. He is a beautiful little boy and worthy of the name.
Someday I will teach him the significance of that name.
Wensel Woodsman of the North is a GREAT name. Will run that by the family.
Anyone else? I know there are tons of dog lovers here.
Simple names work well for dogs. If a male.
Ull/Ullr Norse God of Archery and Hunting.
Apollo Roman & Greek god of Archery (also the Sun God which fits a golden)
how about:
Ischi
Ishii was voted down by the family.
I like Apollo and Fletch. Hard to come up with a good registry name that fits though. Little help?
Cheveyo
Sha- va-o
Indian name means sprit warrior
So far, "Apollo's Master Fletcher" is in the lead. We would call him "Fletch".
You guys are way more creative than I am. Keep 'em coming!
As an ex retriever trainer and junkie one syllable words work best for a hunting dog. Fletch is good.
It needs to be short that can be yelled out with authority to get him to instantly respond. I think your idea of FLETCH fits the bill.
You could name him Bear, though the archery tie in would elude most non-archers.
LEGOLAS of course!
That'd work but you'd need to go to "elf" for a call name.
Bon-ami... means "good friend" Ami would be a good call name too
Axis
Apollo's Golden Fletch
I had a pair of beagles named Pope and Young.I have also had 2 black labs named Boone.Well I still have Boone. Not original Boone just Boone.Original Boone was my hunting buddy wen I was 12.

What was the sire's name, I think it is cool when you combine the sire's line in the name to keep it going!
Martin Hunter for a male,
Savannah for a girl.
of how about FFFFFFFFFFFFfffffff...the noise from your fletching when its going down range.
or "Boing" when your string pops on your bow.
Sorry couldn't resist.
Obleo, unless he has a point that is.........
NOCK
I like Appollos Golden Fletch,Fletch for short.
If it black, Carbon. Yellow, Osage. Chocolate, Cocobolo. Coco for short. This's one's Molly but she answers to "Goof Ball".

Sorry, was thinking Lab's but your'e getting a Golden. I'll vote for Fletch, always been a Chevy Chase fan.
My Daschund is "Perfect Tiller" Tilly her call name. My other dog is a fly fishing dog "Tippit" Doc
If your going to train him to hunt - fetch and fletch is gonna get confusing for the dog. Every time you tell him to Fetch he may come to you and every time you call him he may run off looking for something.
How about Fred (as in Fred Bear)or Thompson (as in Will & Maurice Thompson)?
We have two Field Trialers, Ailan and Fiona. Neither have any difficulty with their names, as the Field Trials dogs are way smarter than their show ring counterparts. Fletch and fetch are pretty close together; if you decide on Fletch, just use another word for retrieve-doesn't have to be a real word, either. I used "dead bird" for the retrieve command, but mine are so hot to retrieve they only wait for the hand signal. The hardest part I had was training them to sit at a flush. Goldens are fabulous dogs, post pictures!!
How about Obsidian ... Oby for short. I love Goldens, we have had four.
You could name him your initials after yourself like our president did with his dog, "BO". Yours would be "EH" kind of sounds like our neighbors to the north.
How about Bocote!!!!!Goldie, Bam , :)
If it girl Sadie girl...
I used to send my lab Buck for a marked retrieve with his name "Buck" as a call. We did this for the very practical reason we sometimes had two dogs with us and if you taught "Fetch" they both would go at the command. For a blind retrieve I'd cue him with "Dead bird" and send him with "Back" which also means run or swim in a sraight line you gave him. Never had a problem with confusion and we never used the command "Fetch" unless something was on the ground and you wanted him to pick it up and I'd tell him "Fetch it up".
i got a lab a couple of months ago and posted the same ? i came up with either fletch or bear. Bear won. he is about 3 months old now
How about Bocote!!
i like this one!
SKOAL FOR BLACK LAB!!!!
Get two dogs, name one, reflex and one deflex : )
Semper Fido
Steely Dan
Runnymeade
Junior Meant
This guy is named BowBear. Bow alone was to close to "no" for my comfort. BearBow or Barebow was another consideration.
