Big heads are spawning heavy. We braved the rapids getting to them and it payed off.

Man that is cool!! Looks like a ton of fun!!
Excellent!
Very nice!!!
Man!! That's a nice one! Dead bigheads are the best kind.
Wow, That's an adventure out in those rapids! Gotta be hard to fight a fish that big in that stuff :clapper:
Looks like fun, what part of kentucky are you bow fishing TJ.
Terry
Curt you shoot one, grab the line and hope you aren't standing on a slick spot. 7 broken fiberglass arrows the day before. One of my buddies got a bath after one drug him about 10 yards when he grabbed the line. I know I shouldn't find humor in that but man was it funny. Ive shot hundred of them from my boat but this eye to eye spot and stalk method with the waves crashing is an exhilarating rush thats for sure.
"Spot and Stalk" in the rapids! Wow! Good thing those guys aren't predatory towards man-they are huge!
That looks like alot of fun. From what I have read, bigheads are filter feeders and therefore have a nicer flesh than common carp. Do you eat them?

John I've never tried them. I do like the very white and mild meat in the spoonbill catfish though.
:jumper:
I know what kind of "paaaar" it takes to snap a fiberglass shaft. Those suckers must be STRONG!
I'll say it once again Tom! Ya'all have way too much fun down south. I know that you haven't tried eating them, but that is a years worth of eating in one fish. I saw fish that big once. I think that it was in the movie "jaws". JD
Congrats
What is the weight of those bigheads?
Excuse my ignorance, but are these the type that jump out of the water into boats?
The fish the good looking guy in the white shirt is holding up is in the low 30 pound range. We've shot them pushing 60 pounds and I'm sure they even get larger than that.
Anaconda, no those jumpers would be the Silver carp. We have them as well.
That looks like a blast. Only been shootin' some small common carp here in Oklahoma. Plannin' on a trip to the Red River on the OK/TX border this weekend for gar. Hopefully I will have a decent few pics to post.
Timothy, Living being an "Okie" have you ever done the gator gar thing? I'd love to do that.
Yes, but I have never shot a big one. My buddy killed one that weighed 160# last year. We are going on Saturday to the same spot. It's illegal to hunt them when they are spawning, which is should be, as they are beyond vulneable @ that time and can be over-harvested. You can shoot them rolling though, which is a blast, but very tough even though they are so big. I will let you know if we do any good on Saturday. I'll post some pics regardless if we get a big 'un or not.
WOW! Those things are big.
Congrats,
Bisch
Tom, is that the Ohio, Green, or Kentucky river?
Ohio
