How many of you fella's or gal's have shot one of these ? Sure does have some beauties on his WebSite ... Thanks ...
Anyone ?
My wife got one of his hybrids at the Tn classic. I'm very impressed with the cast of the bow, Its fast and quiet. Its a "thunder child" 56" 30#@26" Throws a 385 grain arrow like a son of a gun. I looked at alot of his bows, they are very nice, just like he was.
Big Jim is making a great bow. Give him a call and I am sure he will work with anyway he can to get you what you want.
Nice to hear fella's ,, Thank You ...
:saywhat: Adam, Adam, just make sure you order one around 50/53#s @ 28"s Bud!! :biglaugh:
They look sort of like a PL though don't they? :goldtooth:
Adam, I had Jim make me one about 4mo. ago. He builds a fast, quiet bow. He is great to work with. Buffalo Bow-64" 47#@28' Osage and Zebra,w/ beaver grip.
He sent me pic's of an instock Lefty, Osage/Zebra, Some of the Wildest lookin Zebra I have ever seen !! Unbelievable Character in this wood !!
My thoughts exactly on the Widow PL ...
Sounds like a twin to mine!!!!!!
Jim told me he modeled his bows after black widows because those are the bows he liked shooting.
Told me the same ,,, OK gotta admit it,, it's on it's way to Pa. I'll let ya know what I think,, 64'' 54#@28'' Osage/ & some SUPER WILD LOOKIN "ZEBRA" !!! "Lefty" of Course .......
Forgot you were a Lefty Adam. :banghead: Pictures when you get her!
Awesome for ya!!! :clapper:
Adam, I sure am glad you are a lefty. That way I have a chance at some of your used bows. Your addiction may be as bad as mine. Let's see...I have a used McCullough 59er coming in a few days, a Kanati coming this month, a Shrew classic hunter takedown on order and just ordered a Zipper SXT. If you keep posting about new bows I may go broke. :clapper:
I shot several at a shoot he hosted all were sweet bows with no hand shock and great cast.
I haven't ever shot one...but have seen a few and they are really nice looking bows let me tell ya.
Never shot one but saw them at a shoot last weekend. They were very well made and had a good finish on them. Some were really nice looking bows.I did not shoot any however because I got too many bows and get weak when I shoot good ones. ;)
I went through Big Jim's booth yesterday and his bows look great, are priced well, and the folks shooting them (I didn't) liked them - but let me plug something else - his t-shirt. He has a great logo, and sells his t-shirt for only $10. Because I want to support our sport, I like trad t-shirts, and this is a great deal. I bought one of every color in my size. He also had great deals on blem carbon arrows.
Azhunter, I think you will really like the 59er, Big Jim & I were talkin and one thing led to another and it's coming, kinda like, try it, if ya like it, you can buy it, if not I'll build ya exactly what ya want or if it's not for you, No hard feelings either way, kinda hard to pass on an offer like that, Seems like a Great fella, we'll see how it goes ...
LEFTY here too...they llok great dont they! Mark
Very nice and pointable bows. Grips are quite narrow and have a little different feel. Some beautiful woods. His strap on quiver is a neat design as well.
He just donated one as a prize at the Appling Archer shoot this morning.
Of course he does have at one used Widow LB on his rack...you don't have a problem with 94#, do you? To me that's a foot bow! Don't call him Big Jim for nothing.
Thanks for the support guys. By the way 16ga. the bow going to AdamH is the twin to yours. If you will remember, the first one I built for you came in a little too heavy to reduce. I don't like to take off very much and consequently miss weight a little more than a lot of others.
Steve, I build my grips to order. Some are narrow others are not. Palm swell, no swell, whatever.
I know that there are a few on the rack that might feel narrow compared to a recurve, but not so narrow when compared to other longbows. Again most of these were made that way by request and missed weight.
I ask my wife and some friends that help me at the shows to pay attention to what is said about not just the bows but anything good or bad about the booth. Doing this allows us to make improvements in order to serve our customers better. What is heard about the grips is they are too big, too small, too wide, too narrow, too cheap, too expensive, too red to black, to well you know what i'm getting at.
I only wish that I could keep more variety on the rack. Of course I love to sell stock bows, but that reduces the options for those who havn't had a chance to shoot my bows and custom builds allow me to build the handle and bow just the way the customer wants.
Oh well, i'm having fun and thats what really counts anyway.
As far as looking like a widow. There is no doubt that my bows and many others resemble widows to some degree. Widow makes a great bow and they are as good a group of people that you could ever hope to deal with. They have many atributes that I like and if I weren't making bows for myself and others that I like equally as well, I would be shooting theirs today. I can only hope that one day I will enjoy the wide spread reputation that they have "earned" as a quality company with outstanding customer service.
As far as me shooting heavy poundage, I practice by lifting heavy burgers and dinner plates often.
Shoot straight and often, BigJim
Been real good talkin with ya Jim, can't wait to fling a few ... Take Care ...
Well, been shootin the bow a few days & she's VERY IMPRESSIVE !! Now for the BAD news,, I don't have a clue how to post pic's or have the stuff to do it with,, I'll try and find some help,, Check em out folks,, They are Shooters !!
Got a chance to see Jim's bows at the Howard Hill shoot in Bama this past week end. I have aways wanted a hybrid style longbow like the BW and his bows hit the mark! I like the way they felt in my hand, solid with a little weight. I'm so tempted to put in an order. And you can't beet the price with a stick.
Got a chance to see Jim's bows at the Howard Hill shoot in Bama this past weekend. I have always wanted a hybrid style longbow like the BW and Jim's bows hit the mark. I'm so tempted to put an order in. I like the grip and the way the bows feel in my hand, nice mass.
I ordered 2 dozen arrows from Big Jim this weekend great people.
Forgot to mention i shot one of his take down LB and also a Black Widow LB. I couldnt tell any difference in the two, Jims bow was fast and super smooth. For sure a bow on my wish list.
I think it looks Like a Tomahawk, but a little nicer.
Well said Big Jim!
I met him up at the Kentucky shoot earlier in the spring. Nice man and very helpful. Will buy anything I can from him.
Same here.... met him at Tannehill this weekend. I will be giving him a lot of my business. Very helpful fellow, and a rather large one at that. Got a handshake that would crack a coconut.
Froggy
Just got one of his takedowns at Compton. I can't say enough good things about the bow and the man. Fast, quiet and no hand shock (the bow I am talking about). Seems to shoot where I point. The wood on the bow is "sepele" and is just purty my 13yr old daughter really liked the look. Jim and his wife are also just GREAT people to deal with I will be giving them alot of my business.
You said it ,, Excellent !!
I will agree with Capt, Big Jim just put a beavertail grip on my new bow and my buddy's at the Compton's shoot. One of the nicest fellers I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He'll have a bunch of my business from now on. He does make a fine longbow also.
James
I got a bow on order that I hope to see in Aug. maybe early Sept. wasn't concerned about how quick exactly as he let me come by the shop to talk about it and pick out the wood and I knew that with all the shows he was doing it would be awhile. Good people in my experience. Can't wait to get the bow
Tulipwood veneers with Tulip and Purpleheart riser 64" 57+/-@28.
One thing that hasnt been mentioned is Jims leatherwork. Bought a buffalo armgaurd from him at compton and the craftsmanship is outstanding. He is also a nice guy and stayed open at his booth in the worst of weather when everyone else packed it in.
Almost forgot great t-shirts and business card as well. I just couldn't figure out where his nick-name comes from:)
