YEA!! Lets hear it! Thats a beauty! I wish we had bears like that here. (size)
WOW That is a bruiser!!
My he's a big one,.....well done!!!
Wow, look at those claws! Big Congrats!
Wow, that thing is a pig!!! Put a hump on that bear and it would be a grizzly! Lets here the story Ryan.
I had a bit of conversation with Ryan on the other less friendly site...that is a dream bear to me. Color, size, longbow...it doesn't get much better than that!
Thanks guys! Yeah, he's a great bear, and I'm a very blessed guy.
I saw him last year on the same bait and he was the only bear that didn't present a shot. I was hopeful he'd show up this spring and sure enough he did.
At 8pm he waddled in and again was nervous but on his 3rd attempt finally made it to the bait. With video rollin' I waited for the right shot and at 15 yards sent an arrow through both lungs. He ran 75 yards and was dead in less than 15 seconds.
I used a Cari-bow Wolverine (50 lbs at my 27" draw) with CX150's (Heritage) tipped with 155 Tusker Concords (rt. bevel and tanto tipped) with 75 gr. adapters and a 100 grain brass insert. Total arrow weight is 640 grains.
The arrow zipped through very quickly striking the barrel behind the bear. The head is still sharp and not damaged with the arrow and head still spin testing perfect.
Thanks everyone and especially Ron from KME for tuning up those heads for me....Ryan
Awesome bear! Congrats!
Beautiful beast you got there.

OOOOHHHH YYYEEAAAA
Thanks you everyone....I can't believe all the support here! If my usb connection wasn't broken I'll post a video clip....sorry!! I'll try to get that working as soon as I can. I'm still pumped about the whole experience and can't wait to get out after elk.
The hunt began last year when I decided to hunt with my fathers Red Wing Hunter that he shot his 1st bear with 35 years previous....a few days after I was born. Dad was going to video the hunt to make it even more special. He had shot the bear from a makeshift ground blind over bait so I was going to do my best to recreate the hunt. We hunted for 3 days totalling 18 hours and saw over 40 bears all on the same bait. Believe it or not, the only bear that didn't give me a shot was the big cinnamon from this year. I wasn't about to shoot any bear and was only going to "dump the string" on a very mature male.
Fast forward a year ..... Dad couldn't make it out for the hunt so I decided to hunt with my Cari-bow (waiting for Dad to be with me to use the Wing) The wind wasn't great so I opted to put up a low stand (10 feet high) downwind of the bait and wait out the night. I had seen 4 bears when "chubby" strolled in 2 hours before dark. He was hesitant coming in but eventually made his way to the barrel. That's where the story posted earlier takes over.
Kind of a neat sidenote....this all happened one day shy of 21 years after I shot my 1st bear. (which I killed with a 55# Mamba and home made arrows) I had stopped hunting with the stick 17 years ago when I was in university and didn't have time to practice, so picked up the wheelie bow. I could lie and say it was only for ethical reasons but it was also because I was caught up in the numbers game and shooting "trophy" animals according to others standards. I've come full circle and again am in love with just shooting arrows. The love of bowhunting is still strong but my love for archery has been renewed thanks to the basic stick and string.
Thanks again everyone!
great bear, great story, can't wait to see the video. congrats ryan jp
Congratulations on your bear!!!
Great story.
Congrats on coming "full circle" as well.
Many happy returns! ;)
congrats ryan!
Wow! Good on ya, Ryan!
That's better than a dream bear
Great looking bear! Congrats.
Congrats on a bruiser of a bear
That thing is a TOAD! Would you mind sharing the weight and skull size if you get a chance to! Congrats on a beauty!!!
Congratulations on a GREAT bear, I was just up your way two weeks ago, hunting by Riding Mountain Park, with your late spring, the lake was still frozen, and some snow still in the bush, we didn't see many bears. On the bright side there were'nt any mosquitoes, and very few ticks!
Again; a great bear and story.
As far as weight....I am horrible at estimating. I'd safely say 300 lbs or slightly a bit more. He isn't overly tall or long making his thickness look even more than it would on a bear with longer dimensions. I can accurately say that he is the biggest 19"er I've ever seen...EVER! He scores 19 3/16 and that was a shock that he scored so little. I've been fortunate enough to kill 3 bears over 21"s and a few more in the 20's and this guy does not fit the typical mold.
Honestly though....the score thing is a "nice to know" thing for me but doesn't matter to me like it once did. Thanks again everyone....Ryan
:clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Wow, what a monster. Great job!
That brown bear is bigger than my Brown Bear!
Very nice! Congrats! Looking forward to the video... :clapper:

wow looks like its been living in a mcdonalds....
Wow, that's a HUGE bear!
I was wondering about the weight and score. I always like to guess...I was pretty close
Amazing!! I don't know what I'd do if I got a chance at a bear like that.
I've never been bear hunting. Your picture is well taken and fuels my imagination for bear hunting.
If I got a bear like that and someone asked what it scores or what it weighs, I'd say, who cares! look at him.
However I'm curious, so I must ask.... what did he weigh?
Thanks for sharing the picture and story.
Duane,
Just go back a page...he estimated at least 300#. Don't worry; if you can shoot bucks like that in your avatar you are going to be fine on any big ol' bear!
Thanks Steve O,
Guess I missed it. Awsome Bear
Ryan, thats a bear of a life time.It will be hard to beat!congrats. :clapper: :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:

Ryan, unless you represent the "Lolly pop guild" that is one huge bear!!!
Congratulations my friend (we have never met, but if you have a place to hunt that has bears like this-we need to be friends ;) -)
It's going to be hard to top that bear for sure.
Congrats Ryan.........I still rememember those words you said to me last year after hunting with your longbow " I FELL IN LOVE WITH HUNTING ALL OVER AGAIN". Congrats again.
Darren
Congrats Ryan,
So what do you do with a bear like that once he is in the bag? Stuff him? Make a rug or a wall hanging? How do they do as Bear skin robes?
Brian
Congrats on a beautiful bear! This fall will be my first try at bear hunting, I can't wait!
