Title: string follow
Post by: steve schrank on May 26, 2009, 06:51:00 PM
hi guys I just wanted to ask a question.I had a bow blank made at lakeside archery it has an osage belly with purpleheart and a glass back. After a long time I finaly finished it.After shooting the bow it has a 3/4 inch string follow and has lost 4 lbs in weaght. Is this normal for a glass backed bow.remember the bow has no glass on the belly just the back.I would like to know what the experts think

     thanks

That sounds about right, depending on the initial shape and wood type.  Not at all unusual for a bow to develop some "set".

3/4" set/string follow after shootin it in is good.  The weight loss is normal as well.  I'll typically stop a few pounds over desired draw weight to allow for break in.
