Title: Block Targets and Single Bevel?
Post by: PurpleCajun on May 22, 2009, 12:20:00 AM
I picked up a Block 4x4 at Joe's during their liquidation (sad day, even more sad than when they dropped the "GI" from their name).

I was happy to get it for 50% off, and didn't think twice about buying it.  However, before I go out and start shooting at it, I was wondering how well they cooperate with a continually rotating Single-Bevel Broadhead.

It occurred to me that the "easy removal" selling point of these targets might not apply to an arrow that creates a not-so-straight penetrating cut.

So, as I said, before I go shoot at it.. will these new ABowyer single bevel points of mine behave properly when they meet the new target?  Will it change the lifespan of the target at all? Will the arrows still want to come out?

i havent had very good luck with block targets. i shot one in half in 2 months using only field points.but that was back in my compound days. i think the original blocks are better. i figure the single bevels will pull out easy, but bringing chunks of the block out with it. i have a uncle that lives in woodland wash. went on a elk hunt up there last year, cant wait to go back.

I bought a broadhead block type target at Cabela's and shot Grizzly's into it.  I did not shoot the life out of it - just checked each arrow a few times to see how they flew.

The arrows came out easily as long as I followed the path out that they spiraled in.  Just feel the rotation in reverse as you pull.

In my limited opinion, any foam target shot at regularly with broadheads is going to have a short life.  Mine didn't lose chunks but did have a few slivers of foam come out with the broadhead.

My Grizzly's stick out the far side of the block I just pull them thru.Haven't killed the target yet but shooting broadheads definatly shortens the life of anf target

Like stated earlier...broadheads in general will tear up foam targets....The single bevels don't rotate that much......a 2 blade of any kind is gonna cause less damege than a 3 blade snuffer.

I have found that they really wreck a target pulling out slivers all over the place. Definitely not good to use on animal 3d targets if you want them to last. Their rotation seems to drill a hole in the target in short order.
