Bad luck last night around 8 PM. Reed Conservation Area archery range near Greenwood, MO. My bow was stolen.
Fedora one piece 560 recurve. 60", 50 lbs., Osage limbs, locust riser, black glass on tips/front of riser. Signed by Mike with my name "Tom Plattner".
If anyone sees this bow please let me know. 913-645-7254.
Need a new in-stock bow to purchase in near future. Price range $500 to $1,000 tops. I have a 29" draw, & like to shoot heavy arrows. Want similar recurve or hybrid.

Kurt

Sorry to hear brother...lots of great bows up for sale in the classifieds within your price range.
I was bare shaft tuning. After trying tab/gloves, shelf/elevated rest, different arrow lengths & point weights, brace heights, nock heights, etc. I had finally achieved the "mystical flight of the arrow" - you know straight shooting arrow & quiet bow. Got excited and scattered brained, left my bow at the range, drove home, realized the bow wasn't in my case, drove back to the range and it was gone.
This is bad, but every time that person touches or looks at your bow, it will remind him/her of what type of person they really are!!
Sorry about your loss.Bob Lee has a closeout deal on his hunter bows $455.00 I think and still has some good selections left.Kip
I'd try posting some fliers at the range. Maybe, just maybe it was found by one of the good guys and they brought it home because no one was there to claim it. Could be waiting to hear about someone leaving a bow behind. Worth a try.
NE'r
good idea, called the MO Conservation office at Reed & called & left a message at the local Three Trails Traditional club. Hope you are correct, but not holding my breath
watch for it on **** ..or one of the other sights that sell bows..as well
I'd like to think some good Samaraten picked it up for safekeeping, and is looking for you right now.
Good luck!
Yea thats why I asked, keep your fingers crossed, I returned a very nice pistol that was left in its hardcase, out on the target line at the range.
It took a few days for me to even start looking for the guy.
Kurt
PS even a good Samaritan might want to shoot it before returning.
I'll let everyone know if I end up being lucky enough that a good samaritin has it & gets it back to me
Sorry to hear that.
That is a real downer! :( I hope it returns to you.
keep your eyes on the pawn shops, newspaper lost and found,****,check where you left it...it will pop up somewhere.see any other vehicles in area when you left?
I dont understand how a person could enjoy something they did not earn.Sorry for your loss.
Sorry for what happened. That said, you might go to Dan Toelke's site: www.montanabows.com (http://www.montanabows.com) & look under Traditional Recurves at his new 1 pc. "Chinook". Pictures of mine can be seen on page 8 in this site (New Toelke Chinook w/pics). I continue to be amazed at the stable, forgiving nature of this little bow plus it is deadly quiet and very fast w/heavy arrows. For info's sake Dan trained under Mike Fedora years ago and through a number of bows now I have found him not only a superb craftsman but about as good a guy as people get to be. Finally, even if he doesn't have a bow in stock for you, his delivery time is weeks, the longest I have waited has been a month. Hope this helps and do yourself a favor and contact him.
keep your eyes peeled on **** and good luck with the recovery!
Sorry to hear about your bow... You never know, maybe an honest man has your bow and will get it returned. Make it easy for them to find you.
There should be no room on earth for a thief...

hope you had the serial number too. like the others said keep you eyes open. maybe you will get lucky.
sorry about that loss though

Hope you get byour bow back!!
Check with your home owner insurance, it might be covered and you can get a new one. Hope it works out.
I'm sorry you lost your bow. If it doesn't make it back to you I hope it blows up in the face of the thief!
Check the local pawn shops and be sure to drop off pics to them. File a police report also. Many items can be claimed on your home owners insurance even though they were lost/stolen outside your home. My wife had her $2500.00 wedding ring stolen and with the deductible paid we can get 1,500.00 for it.

Tom,
I'm out at that range all the time - that one and Three Trails. I'll keep my eyes open for it. It's bound to turn up. Did you check the lost and found at Reed?

UPDATE!!!
Bow WAS FOUND AND IT WAS NOT STOLEN!!
A friend I know found it laying in the grass on the 30 yard target has been looking for you for a couple days. He has been looking for postings at the James A. Reed range and didn't see any. He then looked you up in the phone book and found you and then called me just now to see if I had heard anything. We will give you a call tonight and bring it by.
NewtradGreenwood, in the future, it is probably not a good idea to say it was stolen unless you know it was. The gentleman that found it is an up-standing guy and has been looking for you since he found it. To be honest, his nose is a little bent out of shape about this posting - listing it as stolen - not lost. He is no thief and comes on this site often and feels that his reputation is tarnished. I think you need to clarify a few things with this posting.
TommyBoy, Man Who Is Returning My Bow, Everyone else,
You are right about assuming it was stolen. He is bringing it back and anybody who would have called me on the phone I would have known immediately he was not someone who stole it. I'm at work right now & my cell phone is at home. I owe him lots of beer, a nice steak dinner, anything he wants. And a huge THANK YOU !!! Am truly sorry if he felt it reflected on him anyway. He is a truly honest man and good samaritan !!! Will get on tradgang.com immediately & let everyone know an honest man is returning my bow.
Tom "Jumping to Conclusions Too Fast" Plattner
All's well that ends well.
Just glad it's coming home.
Scattershot & Kurtbel5,
Should have listened to you guys. If I would just have said "missing" instead of stolen. Could have done everything else the same, phone calls, posting on tradgang, everything. Would not have offended a honest & good man & still got my bow back. Hope he really understands how sorry I am.
:clapper: :clapper:
Glad to know there are still good people in the world. After the steak dinner, you may have made a new friend, who knows??
There you go, a happy ending! :clapper:
That is awesome news, good to know there are still MANY good people out there. It's easy to let a few tarnish our view of the rest.
Awesome your bow was found! Someone was looking out for you!
Don't beat yourself up Tom. It was an honest mistake and any of us would be a bit out of whack to lose a prized bow. I'm sure only a few know who the good samaritan is and everyone can understand that he did the right thing - so I can't see anyone's record being tarnished in this. On the contrary it is a very positive outcome. I can say that in all confidence because I wouldn't be offended if I was the one that found it.
Of course you thought it was stolen. Just like I accuse my wife of losing my gear all the time. It never occurs to me that I had an out of body experience and put it somewhere that it shouldn't go. Thank Heaven she has a thick skin or I'd be toast at least once a week. I believe a good man can see as much humor in it as my wife could.
I'm sure he will understand Tom. I only mentioned it because he was pretty concerned when he called me. It looks like I am right around the corner from you. If you want, let's zip on out to the Three Trails range and fling a few - see how that puppy shoots.
Bring the tick juice - one nearly took my leg off last Sunday night!
TommyBoy,
I'm leaving Lenexa right now. Will be home in about one hour. I'll have my cell with me when I get home. I can be out at the range about 6 PM,or any time after that.
Tom
I'll give you a call. Let's plan on 6:30 or so.
I love a happy ending. :clapper:
Happy to hear an honest person found your bow..
Trad people are just good people.
JDS III
too cool!
I agree about how things are worded. If he had left the bow where he found it the bow may have been stolen. By an honest man picking the bow up you left behind and looking for the rightful owner he did you an great favor.I would be sure to let him know how much you appreciate him returning the bow, you lost and he was so good to look for the owner. Ben
Glad you are getting your bow back.
Maybe you should edit the title of this post?
Well, the bow is going back to its owner, thanks to an honest, upstanding person. :bigsmyl:
Anyway, a HUGE "Atta boy" for the gentleman who looked for, and found this bows rightful owner.
I think you should be sent to your room without supper for leaving your bow lay around.
Tom..there are many lessons to be learned here.
Email sent.
  :clapper:
Update. We met last evening shook hands & my bow was returned unharmed and with some more "spirit of the hunt" mojo from being in the hands of a stand-up man. I apologized. It was an easy apology that he gracefully accepted. We then went shooting on a 3D range in the woods with another traditional club member (pasr president, now secretary). I even took a couple test shots on his bow and he flung a couple with mine. Three Trails Traditional Archery Club in Greenwood MO will soon have a new due paying member.
Almost sounds like losing the bow could turn out to be a blessing in disguise! New friendships could end up being be more valuable than a bow!
Glad it turned out well.
It is good to know there are honest people in this world. Good luck and many thanks to the fellow who returns your bow!
Glad it all worked out for the good!!!!!
A guy who returns a found a bow, and guy willing to admit he handled something poorly... two rare things indeed. Sounds like the makings of a friendship. Glad it worked out.
you meant no harm at one person...my bow was stolen was a general statement that had no particular direction to it..aimed at no one in general...so i see no reason why the guy should get his nose bent when the comment was not aimed or intended for him. my2c
almost forgot...glad ya got yer bow back...glad an honest guy found it,most archery ranges do have pretty honest folks at them.
:campfire: :clapper: :clapper:
I love being right lol
Kurt
It brings joy to my heart, in particular since I just had $200 worth of ammo shipped to - and stolen from - my front porch. Only shipment that ever walked away from there! :banghead:
Just another sign to go trad! There are some really great people here. GOD BLESS YOU!
Great Ending !!!!!!!!!!!
Glad you got it back from an honest man. Good for you Tom for your honesty and effort.
:archer: all's well that ends well. sometimes in the heat of the moment we do and or say things without thinking. I probably would have reacted much the same. lessons learned and new friendships gained. win win situation. was meant to happen this way.
All's well that ends well!
I am glad it all worked out and every one is ok.. I just wonder how you could leave your bow at one of the targets? Gotta be a story there some place.
People , that bow has good MOJO!!!!!!!!!!! :) dont ya love it!!!!
Some bows will do anything to get their owners to join a bow club ! I would keep that bow if I were you ! :campfire: :D
