Title: Another newb introduction
Post by: Paulie771 on May 17, 2009, 01:06:00 PM
Hi everyone!  I wanted to post an introduction on here so everyone could know who I was when I posted a silly newb question or twenty.

My name is Mike Paul and I live is SW Rutherford county of Tennessee.  I have quite a bit of experience with firearms, having been on the TNNG rifle team for my last two years in the Army.  I also shoot three-gun and 1000 yard F-Class T/R, as well as training with schools such as Tactical Response.  I also enjoy camping and am finding an acute interest in primitive skills.

I'm completely and utterly new to archery.  I watched a video on Youtube of a guy crafting a survival bow and thought, "Hey, that's cool and I can do that."  Well, I figured I needed to know a little something about archery before that, and it has sort of evolved into a new hobby.  I won a Ben Pearson 717-60 Mustang off the not-named-site yesterday, so I'm on my way.  I've been doing searches for any relevant threads to questions I already have.  While there's a plethora of knowledge and characters here, I think I'm finding most of what I need.

My first plan of action is to get a string for the Mustang.  I was thinking D-97 but I don't know if the old Mustang can handle it.  After that it's the simple matter of finding good, affordable wooden arrows with the correct spine weight (I've noticed 55# for a 60" 45#@28" recurve seems appropriate).  Then all the ancillary gear like armguards, gloves, targets, quivers, etc (hopefully from sponsors of this site!).  If nothing else, this new hobby of mine will keep me busy looking for good deals for a while.

Anyways, that's a short intro into...well...me.  I look forward to exploiting the collective knowledge of the gang.  Thanks!

Yeup, sounds like you've done been bit good.  Don't worry.  It's not fatal.

Welcome.  It's a good time.

Mike-wouldn't advise a d97 string on an older bow, the non stretch FF could ruin the bow. Better stick with B-50. BTW, welcome to a great sport.
