In February 2008 I participated in a charity auction to raise funds for a youngster. Well, I was the lucky bidder who won a custom carved bow rack to be made to my specs. The talented artist asked me for a picture to use for the carving and I sent him a photo of two bucks that I killed on a bow hunting trip to Texas the previous year. He decided to put both of these deer into the carving and a little more than a year later, this beautiful piece of art arrived.
The pegs are antler tips and the bow rack is truly magnificent. It is shown below with my two hunting hats and one of my Marriah Thermal recurves. I'm sure you will agree that I am a very lucky girl!

Claudia, That is a great memory of that hunt. Now I really have to get into shape hunting elk with you! From all your stories, you can really set the pace :) Doc
Very nice Claudia...maybe I need to get myself a lucky hat :)
Wow! That's pretty cool!! :bigsmyl:
Congrats on a GREAT win. That's one terrific keepsake.
Claudia was very generous in that auction! Her gift to the premature infant was huge, especially considering she was bidding on a carving to be done by a beginning carver who only had one previously completed carving to his name. I know firsthand that he wanted to do something special in return.
She was also very patient!
Here is the pic Claudia sent him:

Now, I am not an artist, by any stretch of the imagination, but I did carve those deer. It was a pleasure to do it for such a nice lady!
Thanks for the kind words, everyone! I hope Pinecone is happy despite it not really being much of a bowrack, functionality wise!
By the way, the frame was made from a piece of old barnwood I got while on a bowhunt in Illinois. It was a hunt from the St Jude Auction put on there by Darren Shue. His Dad, John, was a super host and allowed me to take a piece of wood from the old barn. Hope they offer that hunt again, though I probably will not be able to afford it this year. I highly recommend it to anyone and I will give you some ideas on how to hunt the property if you win!
Hooked in my eyes you are an artist. Having watched you develop over the years with your "projects". One day I hope to have a trophy worthy of your talent. Give Lil Garrett a hug for me.
Les
That is outstanding work!!!!
