Title: POC Questions. ?
Post by: crafty on May 12, 2009, 08:03:00 PM
Hey all. Ive been doing searches and still cant find what im looking for.. SO, here it goes.

Im shooting a Kohannah Hunter 63@28"  Im only pulling 60# at my draw ..    Ive got a DZ 60-65# POC's and i want to use around 145-150gr tips on them(if possible)

Can you all give me some recommendations as to where to start..?

Also and prolly the biggest thing, Is when im bare shafting these. Can someone tell me what a High left tail means or a Left tail. Or low tail. etc..etc..   If its not the same as a compound then im lost.. ..

Any and ALL help is appreciated..

THANKS

Tail left = weak
tail low = nock too low

Thanks fellas..

I shot a bare shaft tonight at 10 yards and it hit so tail high and left is snapped..

Im going to shorten them and lower my nocking point going by what Mag said.

Does anyone here shoot POC's from a 60# FF'd Curve that can give me a solid Starting piont.

I'd suggest cutting cutting the shafts you've got a half inch longer than your draw length. For a center shot recurve they are too weak in spine.

Start with a set that's 70-75 and you should be real close.

I was hoping that wasnt the case but atleast i can still use them from my 45# Curve.

The Riser is cut to center on both my bows.

Anyway, So Im looking at 70=75# POC's then. Thanks Mr. Lamb.

Still wondering though,

Does anyone here shoot POC's from a 60# FF'd Curve cur to center shot.    If so what is your set up consisting of..?

Thanks All.

After searching more and more, i came across this a few times.

----------------------------------------------
"1. Start at your draw weight, and jump to the next spine group (eg. you draw 40#, so jump to 45# of spine).

2. If shelf is cut to or past centre, add another 5# (if bow is not cut to or past centre, subtract 5#).

3. If using a low-stretch string material, add another 5# (if using Dacron, subtract 5#).

4. For every inch of arrow over 28", add another 5# (for every inch of arrow under 28", subtract 5#).

5. If using more than 145 grains up-front, add another 5#.
--------------------------------------------------

So with a 63# bow, drawing 60#'s
center shot riser
dyna 97 String

Im looking at at 75# spine..   Is this how you came up wiht you recommendation Charlie..?

YUP that will get you very close and If you errr a tad bit higher I dont think you'll go wrong. My 70@28 bighorn loves 85 90# spine with a 125 grains.bullet holes thru paper.

I didn't use the formula bud. Just an educated guess from years of messing with wooden arrows.

That is a great chart for those who want an idea where to start.

I would take the arrows you got and see if I could shoot them with the bow I had. If they are weak spined put a rolled up piece of duct tape on the side of the shelf as a temporary build out. Go slow and add a little at a time. You should reach a point where they shoot good. When you figure out how much to build it out, you can make it more permanent. You also have to get the brace height right and your nock set right. Gary

Crafty you got me to thinking, I was shooting some Doug Fir shafts out of the same bow, I just spined them again and they spine out at 97#s with a 180 gr Jerry Hill BH same results bullet holes thru paper.I've gotten away from wood forgot I had those.Hope this helps.Thing i'll go and fling some fir.
