Not everyone visits the knife forum so I figure this is a valid question here. What knives do you use and why? List brand/blade type and length if you wish and if it serves a specific purpose or sentimental value. Enjoy. Skippy
I've carried a browning 3 blade folder on my belt while hunting for many years and a Kershaw 3" fixed blade in my pack. On a daily basis I carry a Kershaw Ken Onion assisted folder I was given by my snap on dealer recently. This fall I will be wearing my handmade necker I built to match my bow.(see avatar pic) Skippy
I carry a "Tippit" made knife in my arm guard [ hand forged, with bone and cocobolo handle, and beautiful file work. [ Oh I love that knife, her name is "Little Razor" 2 1/2 blade and 5 1/2 OA. Jeff makes real works of art!!!
On the belt is a "Shrew" with Sambar scales 3" blade and 7" OA, she's Very pretty with all of the file work. Holds it's edge well gets scary sharp and had the sheath signed by Ron.
Just "Scored' a Beautiful 1915 patented "Marbles" with Iron Wood grip and beautiful slightly up-swept blade at the "Rock Shoot". Beautiful bluish patina on the blade [not ground down from sharpening as many old ones are Also, verrry sharp. [ That ones staying in the gun safe as I don't think I've ever seen another that old as nice. ]
Gene :wavey: :jumper:
I carry a Camillus muskrat, 2 3" clip blades in my pocket. It is good for cutting around the rectum. I also carry a Dozier guide knife in my pack for opening the sternum since I am on blood thinners I like to see what I am doing now.
Jack
I carry either my 1959 Case leather ring handled sheath knife or my 1969 Queen #98. I just feel good carrying the originals!
I have a handmade custom hunter done by RobTattoo on this site that I carry in the woods, and a Buck Strider Tarani Police knife I carry for work.
Kershaw Leek in the right hand front pocket.
Eveready in a pocket when I hunt. (No-name Italian-made three-blade folder with lignum vitae scales. Bung reamer.)
Buck Vanguard in the fanny pack or quiver.

I'm pretty sure that this is just the tip of the iceberg. ;)
A Calmont Skinmaster I have carried for twenty plus, been a good one. Can remove the handles for cleaning, and has a fold down gut hook....
Froggy
I love my case stag handle saber blade pocket knife . I used to carry big knifes but over the years but this knife is just the right size for about any skinning job I may encounter .
Mike
Handy as all hell and always with me when I'm bowhunting is my little Zebrawood gripped RobTattoo "Rectum-Wrecker" on my 6500 mile Collaboration Armguard...

On my belt on ANY type of hunt is either my Custom Ray Hammond Amboyna Burled scaled Damascus beauty
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/stickbow98/AmboynaBurlKnife3.jpg)
or my Bocote & Damascus slicer by Skullworks
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/stickbow98/DamascusBocote.jpg)
In my pack is always the Outdoor Edge Saw/Knife set my sons gave me for my 1st Elk hunt to help "Cut 'em down to size!"
And I NEVER leave home for anywhere w/o a Leatherman tool of one version or another with me!! :notworthy: (I count that as a blade too!)
>>--Ron--<>
1. Anymore I ALWAYS carry my super thin Swiss Army that is simply a 2" blade + beer bottle opener w/screw driver tip. This has to be the handiest and most easy to carry knife ever made.
2. Benchmade Mini-Griptilian clipped to my inside front right pocket.
3. When afield I carry in my pack or in sheath either a Spyderco Bill Moran (fixed blade) or Helle Harding depending on my mood and what I am hunting.
4. For a lot of kitchen duties, boning, and filleting fish I use my Helle Steinbit quite a bit too.
5. I've got a beautiful Helle Nying in the safe but just haven't used it much yet, although it's begging to clean some rabbits/squirrels this fall.
Rat Cutlery RC-4 for all around camp/survival knife that has been used to butcher bear as well. 4" blade there abouts with Molle back. High carbon 1095 steel. You can sharpen it on a rock. Perfect "all-around" knife in my opinion that I never hunt or camp without. Batoning, skinning, you name it-this'll work! Helle Fjellman for skinner. Kershaw "Scallion" clipped to pocket when I hunt and as everyday carry tool. Assisted opening. Had a Becker BK-9 camp knife but I can't find it anywhere! :(
I always have a Case trapper or midfolding hunter in my pocket and for hunting hunting or fishing I always have a belt knife of some kind on, some custom some production
Always carry a Buck Lite folder and a Leatherman Tool on my belt, Strapped to my pack frame is a Kabar Marine issue from WW II that a friend gave me. With the Buck and the Leatherman you can do just about anything... with the big Kabar you can do EVERYTHING.........>>>>----> ron w
Steve, Not sure I want to see that RC-4 after you sharpen it on a rock :bigsmyl:
Oh, I just carry any old knife laying around here ;) tippit
Top one bowhunting, bottom one with my flintlock.

I've carried every brand pocket knife I know! I now carry a swiss army knife! best pocket knife I have found. On my belt I carry a small capper made by Doug. In my pack I carry a skinning knife with a gut hook, I think it's a outdoors edge. Jason
I carry a Buck folding knife and a Buck fixed blade in my backpack, and a small Kershaw folding "jack knife" in my right front pocket. Over 12 years of guiding, my knives have seen a few critters.
Once Shell make this one purrty, someone might want to carry it. Keep an eye on St Judes...tippit

Any combination of these. All made by Bob Dozier.

As Brian P. above, I use a Bob Dozier as my go to knife. Most all of the Dozier affordable knives have D2 steel that he treats the metal a special way he has developed. It is hard to believe his knifes will field dress and cut up so many deer before having to touched them up. They run a little over $ 200 and one of the best values on the market.Mine is like the photo on the bottom, but green handle. A.G.Russel sells them on line also. Only sharp knifes are interesting! Ken Denton
Always in my pocket = Victorinox "Fieldmaster"
In my pack = Buck "Bucklite" folder
On my belt = Buck Alpha Hunter (Rosewood)
These might be either supplemented or substituded by any number of others as well depending on the exact circumstances or task to be completed.
I usually have one of a couple of pocket knives, but my go to git-er-done knife when there's meat on the ground is my Helle Veidemann blade with homemade handle. Here it is by herself  :

Mine is of a custom lot, there isnt any more
I carry a kershaw "blur" s30v for gutting and skinning and leatherman "side clip" for other chores
A Searles bowie is on display at the Alamo, and would have been made in the 1820's-1830's
A Searles would be worth untold amounts of money! I sure hope you aren't carrying a real Searles bowie to gut deer with!!!!!
Tell us it isn't so!!!!!
You guys have some fine stuff there. I carry a wide variety depending on what I'm doing in the outdoors.
Camillus bird knife

During the day, every day a Swiss Army Tinker, carried them for years. When in the woods, a fixed blade skinner made by Jeff Dorris, Helle blade with mule deer antler handle (Very Nice)and a Gerber lock blade in my pocket.
I have this one I got from a knife maker in PA named Johnny Jones (JRJ Knives).
Love it.
Spyderco for everyday pocket carry, a Marbles Woodcraft on my hip for hunting, and an assortment of CRKT knives in my pack for skinning and gutting almost never use the CRKT stuff though, great knives just love my Marbles .
....catch a Randall by it's toe.....
But my EDC is a custom folder made by a feller named Don Morrow from Texas. S student of Bill Ruple who makes some of the most drop dead gorgeous folders ever laid eyes upon.

Ive laid my Searles atop the glass case where COl Fowlers Searles rests at the Alamo.
No mine was a limited repop from a few years ago.
There were only two of that style made. Jims in the Santa Anna museum in mexico city, and Resins whom he gave to Fowler is at the alamo.
lots of copies all over the place
The hunting knife my Grandpa used (a Solingen "Original Buffalo Skinner" made in WEST Germany back in the day by a company called Widder 3 3/4" blade, stag handle), and a Leatherman.
RonP
6" Buck knife I got for Christmas as a kid from my Dad. Works great for deer. I usually carry a smaller folding knife if I'm just after rabbit/squirrel. For elk this fall, I'm carrying a large Gerber Blade that 'Elkherder' sent me,as main knife and probably my buck knife also.
ben
I carry a Case Trapper I got for Christmas from my brother. I'd been looking at it for a long time at the hardware store. It was quite a nice suprise. I use it every day at the restaurant cutting limes and such when I bartend and of course on my daily Prime Rib. I can't wait for it to actually be used for it's "intended" purpose. =0)
I also have a Bucklite that I've had for years. Also got me a Buck Short Nighthawk fixed blade.
either a fallkniven njord, original puma bowie or one of the customs that lay around my car, bedroon, hunting pack.....
there's usually my 'ol trusty k bar lying around somewhere....18 years of hard hard use and still going strong....
there is nearly always a need to have my chris reeve in the car.....
don't forget my folders......
and my tool clips.....
i can't answer these questions ...my other knives get jealous....
cheers
ben
I've had this one for 20 years. A custom folder by a fella out West who calls himself "Whiskers". It's a big knife with a 4" blade and an oosic (SP) handle.
Some of my "primitive" knives with my Shrew Hawk.
I haven't seen anything that a Buck Crosslock with a drop point blade and a gut hook won't handle.
An 8OT old timer 3 blade pocket knife and a Kershaw Trader with wooden handle that I found next to a moose kill in the woods of AK.
cold steel hunter- pretty much indestructable, and very sharp.
I have bunch , there knives then there is, Emerson . Just works for me..Marco

Knife by "tippit"...sheath by "rebecca shields"..
around my neck...various and sundry other knives in my pack.
:)
A Victor Smith.........
Gerber "gator-mate", Schrade "Sharp finger", Buck 110 folder, and a #2 scalpel, with spare blades.
Benchmade Griptilian daily carry.
Doug Campbell neck knife, whenever hunting.
Ruana (gift from my ex-in-laws) if carrying without regard to weight.
Mora if weight-limited.
I'm a lucky man; batting .500 great blades Montana-made.
I've carried A Camillus centerloc folder for the last 28 yrs. in my pack I also carry a case one arm trapper. This season I have also started to carry one VERY sharp Sticshooter belt knife.

Oh, I forgot a carpet knife with a major gut hook, primarily to rip leg skin.
And a really nice Koster bushcraft knife bought on a deal if I'm going high and long.
Daily a little Buck with a one finger opening device kind of Ken Onion style; in the field mostly a Buck 110 folder and a Bob Dozier drop point hunter.
I carry four knives total at all time, One dagger for my protection, a floding guthook-skinner and saw. A clip knife and another folding lock back skinner!! And sometimes a swedish neck knife, and a large shrade belt knife. That should be all of'em I think!! :) :)
So far I don't hunt any thing bigger than a deer. I have an old folding Buck 110 that the very tip was broken and then reshaped my dad gave it to me when I was a kid. I also have a kershaw locking folder. Both get wicked sharp. The buck is for sentimental reasons. I always have a gerber saw for the rib cage no sense abuseing a knife.
I carry my Dad's custom Randall. He had it made in 1941 before shipping out and passed it on to me when I was drafted in 1967. It's no beauty but its a tough knife.
My folder is either an old Gerber or my Spyderco military.
My new Damascus ironwood and macassar ebony knife, picked it up last month so it has no experience.
I carry a knife my grampa and i made .I will be carrying this fall a knife that I will make to mach my bow I made. :bigsmyl:

Nothing fancy for me.
* Mid-size Swiss Army Knife or a Gerber LST folder for small game and stuff.
* Gerber belt knife for deer (practically new - bleah).
* USMC fighting knife or a tomahawk - for whatever.
Good post I enjoy it.
Some real nice looking knifes, some real practical ones to,,,,neat post!!!
I love my RAT-7....I also love my K-Bar
I love my BK Kabar 9" camp knife for heavy woods work.
For hunting and wood craft it's my Rob Tattoo Bushman.......Rob makes a great knife.
Leatherman Wave is tool of choice and i carry a Dozier design Kabar folder for my E.D.C.
For general everyday carry, a CRKT Mini My Tighe. For hunting, a Buck Alpha Hunter blade.
welp, i just finished adding handles to a few helle blades and this one's what i'll be toting afield ..,. helle 50b fjording 2-1/2" blade, red oak handle from some scrap board, 6oz leather sheath stitched up with dacron bowstring. just needs to get a razor edge from a kme sharpener.
Swiss Tinker in my pocket every day.
While hunting I tote a Puma folder since 1970 this is similar size but lighter than the Buck 110 folder. I have cleaned a couple hundred deer, a few hogs, and a couple elk with it. I like the clip blade and the steel keeps a very good edge.
The smaller version of the Marines Kabar on my belt when in the wilderness.
This is my Ricke folder, I have grown to like the folder more. I like the low profile on my belt. This baby hold an edge, I gut & skun a bear & whitetail & it still shaved hair.
This year I am gonna carry this one, it is my first I made this year.

I will let him give you some more info
Homemade knife (& ax) is 13.75" w/7.875" hollow ground blade. Just finished this a few days ago with some polishing left to do. It's scary straight razor sharp! Thought I'd carry it for clearing lanes and tree trimming. Cedar accents top, bottom, & bolster. Handle is oak.
Thanks Cody for the pics.

Ichiro Hattori, 63 years old craftsman, was involved with knife making at the age of 18 when he joined his father's knife company "Masahiro". In 1971, he has opened his own workshop and started producing high quality Hunting knives for export with buyers brands including Kershaw, Browning, Beretta, Tekna etc.
His fine works have been quickly recognized in the U.S. market as the custom quality knives with the detailed hand works. This reputation came from his nature to seek the finest workmanship without any compromises. In 1993, he has entered into a domestic market with his own name and line, and instantly captured Japanese knife users as the finest Hunting knives ever offered in Japan.

It's not very traditional, and not for everyone...but
My favorite hunting knife right now, AND ONE I WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE WHO IS TRYING TO PACK LIGHT for whatever reason, is the Spyderco Moran Featherweight upswept. (They make a drop point version.)
It is very very light, I carry it around my neck and it never notice it. Most comfortable knife in-hand that I've used and the VG10 blade is great.
Have a mini-kabar that serves as camp knife,
Would really like to try a good 1095 knife like the RATs...the Kabar is just soooo dang "chunky" in the spine.
I carry a couple knives by KOA (Knives of Alaska) D2 steel and rubber handle material ...easy to wash off...purty is nice...but I don't like slick handles when they get covered in elk blood...
My little "Shrew Skinner" will skin anything from a mouse to a moose. http://shrewbows.com/ShrewSkinner.html
