Here is an excerpt...Finally the Jersey Boys and some of us non residents can bowhunt that extra day on the weekend....
Congratulations! The Governor has signed Sunday Bow hunting into law!
In only 18 months since anglers, hunters, trappers and conservationists of all types "united" through a grassroots effort and sent two uninformed legislators packing - New Jersey's "anti" culture has been turned on its ear.
-
Great news! I can't wait to hunt that extra day ever since I started this new job. Thanks for breaking the news Joe.
-
This whole "No Hunting on Sunday" idea is so strange to me. How and Why did this come about? Not only in NJ, but other states as well. Maybe us Kentucky folks are just a bit spoiled.
-
That is great news! Enjoy you extra day in the woods.
-
Great news for the folks who bow hunt New Jersey! Second task on the list has now moved up to number one...! Can we get these same folks united in a effort to do the same thing for the Black Bears that seem to have taken over the entire state? Just had to ask if we can keep the movement going in the right direction!!!

Alright!!!

Born and raised here, 48 years old now and I'd have sworn that we'd never see the day!!!! :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Now about all these bears....

Congrats on the extra days on your season!
-
Congrats. I've always thought those laws were a bit strange and really hard on most working men and women. Best of luck to other states with the same limitations.
-
I believe the Sunday hunting laws are much like liquor sales on Sunday, there because of a strong religious history in the area. Delaware didn't allow Sunday liquor sales until about 6 or 7 years ago, but just across the state line in Maryland it was okay. Still no Sunday hunting in Delaware. I'm not holding my breath waiting for it either. A very strong horseback riding lobby, they ride on State property on Sundays and don't want to give it up.

Congrats to all you Good Folks that sent the e-mails to the politicians in Trenton! WOOOOOFAAAAAA Sunday hunting!!!! Awesome. Now if you have to work on a Saturday -Whamo Hunt Sunday. Now if you wakeup Saturday and the weather Stinks Whamo- hunt Sunday. Awesome! Thanks for the news Skipper!

Things are looking up. I never thought I'd see that one happen.
-
Way to go guys...I have spent a lot of time in Jersey with the Army(guard), and I cant agree more about the bears!! We lost a whole weekend worth of training because the bears wanted out MRE's! That was years ago...Im sure the bears have multiplied since then.
-
Just wanted to add. Jan, your 100% correct in what your saying about the Bears. :readit: :clapper:
-
Oh Boy! Winter Bow is gonna be Great!
... mike ... :archer: ...

GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
The news was sent to me by my hunting buddy Bamboo...
Now...its time to start pushing for open archery seasons on Black Bears...something has to be done about the bears before some innocent young kids have a run in with sows and cubs while waiting for school buses or playing in their backyards.
Keep the letters flowing to the politicians!

Congrats! I hunted in Ohio with a friend and when we were getting our stuff ready Sat night for the next days hunt my friend said "what are you doing? You can't hunt on Sunday in Ohio." We thought he was pulling our leg at first but then realized he was not. I thought that was the craziest hunting law I had ever heard of.

Joe, won't that put excessive strain on the marriage :bigsmyl:
-
the politicians finally did something useful! what's next, a bear hunt? lower taxes?
-
WOW thats awesome!!! I spent my Youth Hunting NJ and I HATED the fact that I could only hunt 1 day a week.. (we lived on Staten Island) So hunting was only made possible when Dad had the day off..
GOOD JOB GOVERNOR!!

Lots of hunting regulations like this don't make sense to me either. Having hunted from Texas, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin the whole "no Sunday hunting thing" never made sense to me either. Here in our county in MD they just approved some Sunday hunting. Not sure if I will use those days but it is nice having the option. Seeing how hunting works in TX and WI which both have Sunday hunting it seems as though the entire hunting "culture" was much more prevelant and was a money maker for locals. That is why PA just completely stumps me. With a million hunters and big money from it why they just won't even consider Sunday hunting is beyond me. Lots of game laws have been on the books for years and remain there because "that's the way it's always been" and have no basis in true game mgmt.
-
PA doesn't allow Sunday hunting either? Geez, if that's the case, you'd think the NRA could better use it's clout there instead of cramming crossbows into the existing bowhunting seasons.
What ARE the states that don't allow Sunday hunting?
-
Virginia doesn't allow Sunday hunting. I agree with the law but from a perspective of faith. Having said that I don't think it should be forced on others unless an overwhelming majority of people share that conviction. Still I think it's sad that faith has lost it's influence on our culture so much that people can't even comprehend why there would have ever been an enforced "day of rest". Just a sign that people of faith have dropped the ball in reaching our culture. Just my $.02.

WoooHoooooo!
-
What I'd like to see is a "compromise" in PA. How about Bow-only Sundays?
-
I think it's great Jersey got bow only Sunday hunting. About Time...
Funee now I'm about to move to Tejas and Corzlime signed a bill to open Bow only Sunday hunting.... Thanx Gov...........
-
It is nice that the governor signed the bill, but don't give him all the credit. It definitely was not his first choice.
I am not going to get in to a philosophical argument, but I see hunting as a way to connect with God when I am out of church. Therefore, I see Sunday hunting as very logical.
I have been told that it is Saturday or Sunday hunting in my house. SWMBO has spoken, but she has been known to show me lenience:)
-
Talon, I understand where you are coming from as I am a Christian as well, but what exactly does "rest" mean? Obviously time in devotional would count, but... Does watching TV count? How about playing with the kids in the yard, going for a jog, etc.? Or taking a nap? (And from a family viewpoint, while taking a nap may be "rest" but it's not real family-oriented since I can't get my 6- and 8-yr. olds to take one voluntarily at the same time I do). :)
I just have a hard time seeing how hunting is any different than playing with my kids or going for a jog. I also agree with Doug that hunting can be a very real way to connect with God outside of church. My Sunday morning hunts are cut short so I can get back to town and take the family to church. Taking my kids out hunting or fishing or doing other family-oriented activities on Sunday afternoon seems logical as well.

I am surprised that everyone is so excited and maybe those that aren't, just aren't speaking up.
Personally, I feel Sunday is the day we set aside our personal interests/pursuits to focus on God and others. As a country we could use more of that. We work out our own salvation and I am glad God has given that chance.
In my opinion, this is not a choice of good vs bad, but better vs. best. There should be laws against the bad and that is where there control should stop. We need to be able to choose.
-
Fellas...this is not a Religious debate. The reason Sunday hunting is popular, most hunters only have the weekend to hunt due to work constraints.
If a person is short on vacation time, at least he knows he can bowhunt the full weekend and not just Saturdays. For those of you who believe Sunday is a day of worship only or family time, that's fine. You have to live by your own beliefs and values.
If Sunday hunting wasn't that popular in Jersey, then why did so many sportsman sign petitions and write letters to their politicians. Lets keep this in perspective. Thanks.......
-
Joe, Well said... keep the faith and more important keep the perspective on this thread! As we have both stated the next item needs to be the focus on the Bears! Bring back the Bear hunt in N.J. More opportunity to take to the woods for a Sunday hunt! Jan
-
Amen to that Skipper! :saywhat: I myself do alot of prayin' in the deer woods.
-
Stiffrod....at the Flatbrook too...
-
Maybe we should all consider the fact that this country, and especially NJ, is no longer made up of only Christian citizens. I know Jewish hunters. Their Sabbath is Saturday, now they can hunt a weekend day too.
Remember, the Taliban is group of very religious people that want to make their beliefs law.
Every day I go in the woods is a holiday for me, very spiritual and soul-cleansing, I feel closer to the Great Spirit there than anywhere.
By the way, does anyone know what's going on with the 150 foot ruling?
-
I don't know if that passed as well Owlgrowler. :scared: Terrible. :banghead:
