Title: custom arrows
Post by: Cyrille on May 04, 2009, 08:17:00 AM
I am thinking about purchaseing a set of custom wood arrows for my new BW bow after I know for sure what the poundage rateing is as it could be + or - 2 lbs of the weight I ordered. I realize that the spine weight of the arrows should be 15 to 20 lbs heavier than the listed bow weight and will order accordingly.
I have narrowed my choice of arrow maker down to two Bearpaw Custom arrows and Wildcat Canyon Traditional Archery. Has anyone here delt with either; and what is your impression of either or both? I know that Wildcat is a bit more expesive than Bear paw, but it is the quality of the finished product that I am concerned with.
I am leaning toward Bearpaw because of the promise of a superior product and the price, but will seriously consider Wildcat Canyon as an alternitive.  :archer:

Let me just say that I am not familiar with either one of the companies you are looking at.

I just went through this with Paul Jalon of Elite Arrows.  He sent me some test arrows and had me paper tune the bow and the arrow to find the correct spine I needed.  It worked out perfectly for me.  Check out Elite Arrows website for instructions on how to paper tune.  You should see if either one of the arrowsmiths you are looking at would send you a test kit of arrows.

When you do order, make sure to give them your bows wt at your draw lenght.  There are also a few more variables to work into the order.

Yes, I realize that and I believe that Black Widow will mark the poundage of the bow at my DL and not the standard 28"draw for wood arrows It should read for example, 47#@30" or whatever my DL happens to be.

I personally know Milt Beens of wildcat canyon and i have to tell you, you will be Very happy with the quality of arrows that he makes.

With that being said, Paul from badger arrow makes a great arrow too, and he's a tradgang sponser.
