Anyone ever try calling black bears before? Im thinking about giving it a try any tips would be helpful thanks.
Had em come running to fawn distress calls before, some NC biguns. Also have listened to em and tried just making a noise like they made, seems to be a noise they make when they are unsure of something. it may not attract them but if they are clase and you do it it does calm them, will make em come up on their hinds to get a look at you. I think anything in distress rabbits, fawns.... should make em wonder. Never called one in season though I might add, round here bear season is Nov - Dec. I have only had luck calling em during the early bow, probably the reason the fawn distress works as fawns are around.

Sit with your back against a tree large enough to conceal your movements or back to back with a partner, them bears can sneak in on you from behind! Good luck!
I've unintentionally called quite a few bears in during our spring turkey season, including one big ol' brute who came from 60 yrds out to 15 feet in about 1.5 seconds.... :scared:
I was calling for a gun hunter (turkey) and we both jumped up and started waving our arms and yellin at him but even then, he didn't want to leave. I guess he thought we stole his turkey dinner!

Watch Wane Carlton's calling all bears it will tell you what you need to do. It helps to spot them first then get down wind of them and then call. If it is a small Bear and you call to loud it can scare them away. When you have a Bear coming in stop calling when they get into range so you will get a shot if you don't it is hard to shoot them head on. I hope this helps.

Woodwise calls also has a good video and a couple unique calls. One is a sow in heat moan and the other is a cub bawl. You have to be careful with the cub bawl.Sows can put there cubs up a tree and come charging in.They say bears come into it pretty agressively. It would probably be best to identify a boar, before using that one.
