Title: What are "Super Cedars"
Post by: bigcountry on April 29, 2009, 04:42:00 PM
I just made a trade with a guy for some "super cedar" arrows.  Is this a brand name or anything special about them compared to POC?

Thanks for anyone that knows.

Used to be an arrow known as superceders I believe they were made by Don Stokes in Mississippi. Could be the arrows you are talking about. They were not cedar but another wood I can't remember all the details.

Talahatchie Wood Works made them. Dan Quillian used and promoted them. I think they were tapered and compressed cedar. Think it made them a little tougher and denser.

They were Magnolia. I sold many dozen here in my shop when Don was producing them and selling them through Quillan. They were also barrel tapered. I still have 2 doz here (310) spine that fly great out of hunting bows 55-60#. They came in a sealed bag and you left them there until they were ready for making. A fairly heavy, tough arrow.
