Well it was almost two years ago my wife eye'd an old bow in the corner of the local bow shop and said she'd be interested in learning to shoot a recurve with me. She practiced, and patiently let me blab on and on about form and such. In short order she was a 3D shooting machine! Last year was her first year hunting and she and I had a lot of fun, but no close encounters with wildlife.
Well Saturday morning she and I pushed on through sprouting fields,a steady misting rain, and distant rolling thunder and set up on a hill top in an old double blind. The turkeys were gobbling at the thunder and she and I smiled at each other each time a bird spoke up.
The morning passed with birds far away, but I knew we were in a pristine location. Brittany was napping while I practice my mouth calls. Suddenly from my right bobbed five red heads.

Tools of the trade...
A firecracker of excitement exploded as I nuddged (ok, almost tackled in my excitment) Brittany. Her eyes were wide and white with a look disorientation and adrenilin. The five birds swaggered in between the decoys at a mere five yards. I silently thanked the Lord the birds were so close and this wonderfull oppurtunity for my precious wife.
She squeked in excitment, "which one do I shoot?"
"Pick one! Anyone, just shoot!" I nervously whispered back.
Brittany drew as the limbs of a bow older than her bent in killer silence, just like she practiced. The realase was good and her tamed arrow sailed straight through five feet of air into the sweet spot on the last jake in the bunch. I could finnaly breathe again.
"You did it I yelled!"

:clapper:
Cool story!I tried to get my wife to be a turkey hunter but failed.I can live vicariously through you though.
Congrats to both of you on a great day!
The bird rolled and flopped and in an instand we were running down the hill. I knew the bird was running on his last breath, but Turkey's have one heck of a camoflague job so I wasn't taking any chances. In short time we stood hugging at the bottom of the hill, gasping at what Brittany had just done. I was pretty proud of her. Brittany was thrilled, and a little speechless. We just sat and looked at the pretty bird and talked for a the next hour about the events that had just unfolded...
This was the first time she'd harvested anything, much less with her bow. It was great. Through the experience I think she's starting to understand why we as traditional archers love being apart the nature that surrounds us, and watching arrows sail through the air.
Here's Brittany and her Trophy Jake.

Tell us about the old Bear recurve.
:notworthy:
How awesome!
I never thought you could fit two people in a little double bull, much less shoot with another in there. I guess it would be doable if it was your wife :goldtooth:
I love ahappy ending. :clapper: :clapper:
Great for her and you my friend.
T.J.
Very good for both of you.... Great teacher and a Great student!!
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!
Very nicely done. Always difficult to make a good shot on a turkey regardless of the distance. Congrats to both of you.
Trophy Jake is right!! Thats awesome right there. How do you both fit and shoot out of that blind?LOL.
One option is to breast out the two big "chest muscles", very easy to do...soak in salt water for a day and then marinate for another day in your favorite marinade and then barbeque it...cooking it lightly and medium heat. You can add a pan of water to the bbq to keep it moist.
One of the best turkey stories I have ever heard!!! Congrats!!!
fantastic!! congrats to you both!
Good stuff, very nice!
Congratulations to you both! What a great experience to share :clapper:
What a great shared experience. Congrats!
Brittany you did good! Sweet to be able to share bow hunting together.
Way to go Brittany!!!!!!!!!!! :clapper:
Simply AWESOME! Now go out and buy her a full-size blind! She deserves it! CKruse
Simply awesome!
You both have a treasure....great story & thanks for sharing!
4runr- The old bow is a 1970's era (I think) Bear Super Kodiak Magnum. Brittany pulls 45 lbs at 29". She was shooting a gold tip 35-55 with a two hundred grain grizzly broadhead. Brittany loves that bow and swears she never wants a different one. I love it to because its so short and nimble for hunting on the ground.
Randy- thanks for the recipe, its sounds delicious and I think thats how were going to make it.
Thanks for all the input, Brittany's soaking it all up.
Absolutely awesome ... congrats to both of you!!! :clapper:
Congrats to the both of you! It's great for a couple to have a mutual hobby. My wife also like to tag along, but doesn't carry her bow very often.
That's great!!! TOO COOL!
Justin, just by looking at the pictures her bow appears to be a 1966 or 67 Kodiak Magnum. If you P.M. me the serial number I can tell you on that particular year and model. I'd be happy to send you a scan of that catalog page once the year is determined. I've always found it neat to know. It would appear the bow is quite a bit older that either of you! CKruse
congrats :clapper:
Super job by both of you. It's something you'll tell you're Grandkids about!!!!
ckruse,
will do, that sounds awesome. It sure is fun to know a little history of the bow your carrying around. I'll look it up and get back to you.
My bow has a little history to, I plan on writing the name of each species I harvest with it on the limb. That should be neat.
Way to go girl!
Way to go Brittany!!!!! tooo sweet!
The Lord has Blessed you both with a morning spent in His Garden and an an exciting harvest to boot.
Hey... BTW - your Girl Scout Cookies are still at the house.
I've managed to keep my paws off. :p but can't say for sure I will be able to hold out much longer... Guess you'll just have to come by and plan on huntin some mushrooms when you come to get em!
God Bless - Eric
Again awesome job Brittany!
Congrats
Sweet! Congrats!
Awesome! That is time well spent together!!!
What kind of blind is that?
Awesome, you two! :clapper:
Doubt there'd be room for me and my 70" Elk River longbow, let alone my wife.
"Happy trails....."
Congrats on an honorable trophy, a blessed marriage, and a really sweet K-Mag!
Killdeer :archer:
Over and Undr,
The blind is an older double bull blind. I think its the the model that the T2 by double bull has replaced. I'm not one hundred percent sure though. It's a tight squeeze. My wife's K-Mag works great shooting from the knee's. I like it because its really simple, only two hubs, and it has a stitched in big mesh window. It's a trick to shoot out of though with a 60" bow like mine. One person has to sit like a chair while the other person sits on top of their back and shoots...Just kidding.
good job
Congrats!
Thanks for the info, mine is the same way, kinda tricky even with a 58" bow.
That's too cool,CONGRATS!!! :clapper:
:bigsmyl:
