Can a person take out a brass Insert that's been glued Into a 340 FMJ shaft? I finally got my arrows that I ordered. There 34.25 Inches long Including my 160 grain glue on Snuffer. They tend to bounce a tad when I start drawing back so I'd like to shorten them some. Am I In trouble? My arrows are all fletched up so I really don't care to go that route and take them off If I don't have to. But If I have to then that's what I'll do. I've been an aluminum shooter for 24 years so I don't know much about these carbons so that's why I'm asking.
That can tough, the brass inserts are quite a bit longer then the standard aluminum inserts.I have removed aluminum inserts by very carefully drilling them out, they are alot softer then the brass inserts. You might try this method, remove the nock and find a steel rod or drill bit that just fits inside of the shaft and whip it towards the floor and it may drive out the insert. It's just the HIT inserts fit down inside the shaft deeper then regular carbons and the brass insert being longer it has more glue surface. If that doesn't work you can always cut from the nock and and refletch your arrows.Feathers don't cost as much as the shafts, you might have to scarfice them.
Thanks John, that's kinda what I figured. Off come the fletchings I guess.
Schultzy, you just got those arrows tuned up. You start changing point weight or length and it is going to mess things up :knothead:
I know I'm an Idiot, believe me I'm not happy with myself!! I noticed the slight bounce In them when I was bare shafting them but I figured It was more nerves then anything, guess I was wrong. I figure I can try It with one arrow and see what happens.
eeewww... I would cut the nock end
I am with matty I would cut the nock end. I have tried to get them out before and have not had good luck.
Take the tip/field point screwed in, Clamp in vise. Heat the tip till just about red hot. Even with the factory epoxy it pulls right out. Then use hot melt, just heat and slide in the insert till just before it goes in the shaft and wipe of excess glue. I do it all the time no problem. Good luck
I have taken out brass inserts glued in with epxoy simply by heating up the point. Heat the point up just enough so the shaft gets warm to hot. Then pull out with a pair of pliers.
Thanks much Mike and Badger, I'll give this a try In the morning.
