Bluegrass Bowhunter's turkey thread inspired me to get up extra early this morning:^)! I've been hunting this bird for three days, finally tired of him flying away from me to his girls, so decided to slip a blind between his favorite roost tree and the swamp edge preferred by the ladies. What an incredible morning, everything that should have gone right DID, which is RARE for me . . . I'm still pumped!!

Good Bird.Don`t you love it on those rare occasions where you can`t mess up.At least for me its rare.RC
Well, it went 99% my way. The bird came within 20 feet of my blind and then turned his back to me in preparation for an attack on my srutting jake. When he hesitated I centered him in the back knocking him spread-eagle, took his legs out of commission but not his wing action. Long story short, the ground in front of my blind looks like a hog wallow due to the beating he put on me before I could get a boot on his head . . . but dead is dead:^)
awesome congrats!! all those bow hunting turkey threads are making me think i should start doing it!
Well done! Way to work out his pattern and get where he wanted to be.

That bird looks, well????? PERFECT! What a beautiful bird. Many congrats to ya! :clapper:
Fantastic Gary, love that blind setup. That thing just disappears. Great photos to.
There's little stands of "River Cane" along the drainages on most of the farm and one clump was in the right spot. I cut several pieces of cane and pushed them into the ground around the blind to dress it up:^)
Someone ask me today about the tree that I "Tied over on the blind." HA, anyone in my part of the state knows that most of the cedars are still leaning over due to the heavy toll of the ice storm of 09. No need to tie that one down.
Congrats!

great photos, Gary...congratulations...those girls sure make the turkey hunting tough sometimes!
Being where they want to go is the real key to success in taking turkeys.
Fine bird.
Here's another photo taken before I carried the old boy back to civilization.

Thanks. I took my son-in-law into the same area this morning and had three new longbeards gobbling in the same group of trees where the bird I took was roosting two days ago. Once again we managed to get between the boys and the hens . . . ahhh, except for ONE sweet talker, and that's all it takes to mess you up. She was roosted with them and led them away from us after fly down. Still, my hunting companion had a real thrill listening to me trying to work them.
Way to go Gary :)
RIGHT ON Gary! :clapper: :clapper:
