Title: Who shoots a Robertson LB
Post by: 9 Mile Archer on January 04, 2007, 07:36:00 PM
Just wondering who shoots a Robertson longbow.  Also do you have and OD model or just the original.  Would like to know your bow stats and what you think about it.
Thanks

I have a Purist.  62" #55@26.  Bolivian Rosewood riser Red Elm limbs.  It's a takedown with the connexion hinge and it's about 4 years old.  The craftsmanship is excellent and the turn around time on the order was about 4 months.  The speed is great.  I shot a Samick Recurve and the Robertson blows it away.  It feels great in my hand.  I've looked at other bows but I really like the way Robertsons look and shoot so I ordered a Vision Falcon takedown recurve.

I got a Robertson Fusion that I like very much. #60 @29", cocobola riser, bamboo cores, red elm veneers. Love everything about it and it slings them heavy lam birch arrows pretty quick.

Robertson Purist, 'boo with bacote veneers, wenge riser "68 #67...it was one of the first mild r/d designs and still one of the best...

Purist is a very appropriate name...

I'm more accurate with other bows, but I enjoy carrying and shooting it the most.

One of my archery goals it to harvest a nice Bull with it someday...

I have a Quest.  66" 60# at 28.5, Osage riser, red elm core, juniper veneers.  Had it about 5 years.  I am very happy with it.  I will be bringing it with me to Idaho in May.

Eric, what made you choose the fusion?  Did you try the Longbow?
Steve, is your bow a takedown or one piece?
The reason I'm asking is I am test driving this bow right now:
Vision Longbow OD 6910
62" 60#@28"
Ebony Riser
Myrtle Back
Maple Belly
It is really, really nice. I just am wondering if I should try thier Fusion, and or ask for a connexion hinge?

My bow is one piece.  Even tho it is fairly long I find it easy to hunt with in MT.  I don't hunt from treestands - which might be more of a problem.

I had a new Vision Overdrive. I shot it for six months then Bob Morrison let me shoot one of his Dakotas and the Robertson was history!

I have an Overdrive with a connexion hinge, and I personally think it is a great longbow.  I killed a bull elk three years ago with it.  My son Kory also has a bow that Dick gave to him that he has been using for several years now, and has taken many animals with.   Needless to say he shoots it very well.  I think the overdrive shoots a bit harder and faster than the others, and I do own one other Robertson longbow....but they all shoot great, and they are at the top of the heap IMO, as top-notch.   I own several other longbows and have been shooting them for decades....some are as good, maybe in some ways a bit better, but I find it intersting that whenever I shoot longbows, I use Dicks designs as the benchmark for comparison.  That says something.  Also the fact that most longbows built today, emulate designs that Dick made popular and filled the hands of aspiring longbow shooters with for many years...a major reason we are all shooting longbows today still.

You ca'nt really go wrong with a Robertson.

I have a Purist 66" 57lbs@ 27.5" w/hinge, it's my go-to bow.  Like Chris, I started out with a low end recurve at the same poundage and even with heavy arrows, the Purist blows it away!

Andrew,

I have never heard of anyone who had a Robertson bow that didn't like it. They are home grown right here in beautiful Montana by a family of hunters. Dont get much better than that. I do not own one, but that Overdrive of Mark Baker's is one of the finest shooter you'll ever enjoy.

I hunted up your way this past Thanksgiving weekend. You got some nice whitetails up there. Do you know Chad Chesnut? Maybe the next time I'm up, I could bring one from Mark's collection for you to try.

Brent

Mark, Thanks for the information, I am going to purchase the OD i have on test drive it is a great bow.  I see you are making a really pretty new bow, I better save my lunch money up!   :knothead:   We do have nice whitetails, I spend a lot of time up in Libby and I think they are even nicer there.   :bigsmyl:   If you come through town and are looking to go stumping look me up. And you're right I don't think I will ever regret the purchase.

9 mile, no I haven't shot the longbows. I've been a recurve shooter all along, the Fusion was just my first step toward a longbow. They almost never have any LH bows available for test drives. A longbow is not too far down the road though.
