Anybody remember way back when there was a 1st shot of the day thread???
I forget who would pick the target and the shot but it was kinda fun.
Whatever happened to that????
Sounds like fun, I am in.
It was kinda fun.
Sometimes it was a 3 shot group, sometimes it was just 1 shot.
NO warm up! Just walk out and shoot at a certain yardage and a certain position(sitting, standing, kneeling...etc)
You had to post pics of your shot/group and it was on the honor system.
Prize...bragging rights until the next match.
Anybody else remember that????
I did it a few times(I never won, I think I was robbed :) ) when I was stationed in Korea...it gave me something to look forward to, instead of just coming home. :)
OK. since I can't post pics from the road,yet....
ONE arrow 15 yds, at a plastic soda bottle!
You guys have fun with it, closest to centering the cap calls the next shot....
litre or mini? in the label? :D
cool I am in..................
This sounds fun. Count me in. I'll take my shot tonight when I get home from work.
I'm game... I'll try at lunch today!
Here is my shot guys, I used a plastic water bottle.. I used a 2213 alum arrows and a 40 pound 1969 bear grizzly.........
Here is the first pic it was at 15 yrd....
Here is the shot low very low...... LOL
(http://i647.photobucket.com/albums/uu197/TradBowKid/tradgang002.jpg)
Dang it!!! (It'd of been a dead hog though!)
This is going to be fun. I'm in! :jumper:
I'll play once I get home.
Couldn't find a plastic bottle, so I scared a Coke can instead. Keep this going!
ttt
I hit the bottle....but I missed the cap...
I'm gonna try and get a camera dowloaded to this laptop..
C'mon ya'll, join the fun!!
Im off to the range to give this a try!
Man I was way off! The pic looks better thanit was. There's always tom.
Well I lost this round. I think I'll change my profession to fence builder, cuz I built a pretty nice corral around the Coke can before I finally hit it. Yeee hawww!!!!!
This was my first shot of the day and the first shot with my new Shrew.
Count me in!! This will be fun. I just came in from practicing and it's dark now so I'll have to join in on tomorrow's shoot.
Here is my first shot of the day. All I had was the Gatorade bottle.
My 2nd and 3rd were much better could have possible won it, but not my first. Was not able to hit the cap of the 20 oz at all though.
Okay whata you guys say??
Run a "shot choice" through Friday 6 PM... New shot starts Saturday at 8AM???
That way everyone that wants to, has plenty of time to shoot....Rather than wait to see who is closest; the 5th person to post their shot; picks the next one..???
That would mean - split arrow - was 5th to post with his shot/pic...he picks the next one this time.
I would say Friday by 8 PM. Just so people have time to upload pics and stuff.
I think the 5th person thing will get more to participate.
Great Idea!
Andrew
Are we shootin at the cap or the whole thing??
Im in!! I will post this afternoon. Does it matter how far??
Here's my shot.. OOOOO so close!!

Well I suk,
Here is my first shot.
But I did finally hit it on the 6th shot

Missed it by that much.
cc its really convienent when someone else posts my first groups of the day for me haha
:D
Not to shabby for me anyway, just a bit low and right though!
I'm already looking forward to the next one.
Well my first shot missed it by thi___________s much. Still getting this bow tuned. My first self bow and havn't quite got it worked out yet. The fourth and fith shots were much closer and the sixths (not pictured) actually hit the top. Pity the first is the only one to count, but deer don't wait for the sixth shot.

Just nicked the edge - of the bottle, not the cap.

Well this was the result. It was not the first of the day . I had shot a couple hours before this. I didn't see this thread till after then. It was the first and only shot on the second trip out. Drew
heres my first shot of the day well actually first shot in a week. Sadly it all got worse from there. It started good :)
Well I missed out on this one. Too dang busy,
Gonna do the next one for sure.
Who's callin it?
Got lucky on the first one. My shooting went downhill from there. (http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj35/DALeFevre/102_2544.jpg)
Ok i guess its my turn to call the shot. since i will be now wear near a computer this weekend ill call it now. Your shot for Saturday is actually three shots from your knees at 20YRDS shooting for the tightist group.
Have fun :archer:
Oh c'mon at least make it a little challenging! :D
Quick question....since it's "First shot of the day" and we're having one scenario a week, can I make an entry every day of the week?
ONE entry per shooter :scared:
Razz yer frenz, as you see fit.... :smileystooges:
Anybody have a barn I can use for this week's backstop??? :D :help: :D
Ok....3 shots from the knee at 20yds.
I'll go first....but with a few disclosures.....lol.
1. First year going all trad. Former compound shooter.
2. I DID shoot several shots, this morning, before looking at this thread....so weigh that, too!
3. This is NOT indicative of my "normal" 20 yd groups!....lol
4. The top arrow entered in a weird angle, but was the second arrow fired.
Enough about the labor pains...here's the baby!
One entry per person, are we going to keep each challenge open for more than one day?
The bottom arrow missed by about 2.5". The other two arrows were about an 1.5" away.
You guys are some impressive shooters.
Since I posted this question I haven't been able to shoot, hurt my neck and I'm babying it. :(
I think the way we used to do it was it went for a week and 1 entry per person.
The winner would call the next shot.
I'll try to pull a bow back tomorrow.
Its kinda cool that this took off again, it was always fun to see how these shots turned out.
I am also new to Trad, almost a year now. My shots went from left to right in a row. For me this has been the hardest thing to do, picking a spot on a solid color target. I was looking at the heart ring. Also first time posting a pic, hope I did it right. BW PSA III 59#@30 1/2.
ran out between the rain storms we are having, i think i need to shoot from my knees all the time if this is the results im going to get. not tipicall of my shooting but even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once and awhile :)

Hey Cody when did you find some "Dry" time to shoot. It's been raining here almost all day.
Well I just got back from an all day drive from a friends house.. and I came and got on TG.. then the sun came out so I went and got my bow and shot my first 3 arrows of the day....
Now it's raining agin....
Cody
When I said my group wasn't indicative of how I normally shoot.....I meant I usually shoot WORSE!....lol
You guys are freakin hooter shooters. Imagine if you got to warm up!
Maybe I misunderstood. Mine was my first three shots.
2Knives, hope you don't mind ; A couple of us kinda stepped in a filled in some thoughts....
1) ONE entry per shooter/week
2) the 5th person to post their shot & pic
calls the next shot
3) 8AM Saturday starts and 8PM Friday ends a
given shot
Hope that's good with everyone. It can be hard sometimes; to call a 'winner'.
first three for the day from my knees at 20 yards. a little left but i'll take that from mr. osage.
Mooseman, where'd ya get those nocks???
Nice shootin!
Billy those are just standard index nocks on sitka spruce.
I can't find any PINK ones...
ok guy if we are playing buy the new rules then i get to pick the next shot rigth....
cody
YEP!! and you have until Friday at 8pm...to tell us what it is.
Billy those are red nocks must have been the lighting sorry to get your hopes up.
Well guys I will tell u now.. this is some ture Howard Hill stuff here boys.. a 30yrd shot I will give u two arrows to try and hit a wooden match in half....
:scared: :scared: :scared: bonus points if ya light it ?
I gotta get my but in gear. I haven't even had the chance to shoot three arrows yet.
I'm gonna have to sit out on Cody's new challenge. I don't have 60yrds.
I think I still have some pink nocks. I will look for them after Church this morning.
Chuck
Oooh me too. I can barely get 20
I can't shoot past 30 either and I'd like to meet the feller that can see a matchstick @ 60 yards.
Ok guys how about 30 yards and u still have the hit the wooden match in half....
Is that better for u guys ?
Cody
I'll get my 3 shot group shot today....sometime..
Dang it, Cody!! Can I use one of those BIG, match stick lookin' lighters from Speedway??
The first shot is the one on the left..11 yards in the basement..its pouring here and I cant get outside to shoot
I'm with shortstoke on this one!! :bigsmyl:
a match stick at 30 yards! i dont stand a chance of being anywehre close, i havent even tried shooting at that distance will be fun to try and see what happens. Good luck everyone!
my 1st arrow at 15y
yep- another scarred soda can ;-)

first three of the day...have to drive 10 miles to shoot but its worth it
(http://i711.photobucket.com/albums/ww111/elkherder/shotsotheday10.jpg)
gatorade cap third shot miracle
(http://i711.photobucket.com/albums/ww111/elkherder/shotsotheday8.jpg)
had to toss this pic in...me and this osage widow get along pretty damn good...40 yds after warmup shots I LOVE TRADITIONAL SHOOTING..this is way fun....to bad i gotta drive so dang far just to shoot though.
here's mine from yesterday
(http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g237/redwinghunter/1stshotgroup.jpg)
These are 5/16, 40-45 POC, with 160 grain tips.
This is the range.
I gotta go find a LARGE matchstick!!!
Just look at what u want to hit Billy, And have fun with it....
Here's my entry. That's a bottle cap I'm shooting at.
OK Cody, you got me on this one! I really liked shooting at a matchstick. My shooting improved dramatically when I aimed at such a small target! Here's the match:
Here's the view to my target (with the gate open I can get up to 40 yards - but don't hit the fence!!)
And here's the three arrows! First one knocked the match to the ground - I WAS SHOCKED! :scared: The second was the "flier" and the third stacked on the first!!!
Notice the match on the ground?
Thanks for the challenge, Cody! That rocked!
I concede, Juan you win, nice shooting!!!!
I kind of combined this weeks and last weeks. And in video form!
3 shots from the knees at 20 yds. aiming to knock off the bottle cap http://www.veoh.com/browse/videos/category/sports/watch/v183372549GynSTpF
It was a fluke!
That's nice shooting Leo. I've got to practice from my knees more.
So what's the next challenge? Anyone still want to play? I like this...
I propose one shot, quarter size target, 20 yards, on one foot! Hold that other leg as high as you can to force yourself into bad balance and see if you can get the arrow home...
Most of the terrain here is steep and formidable, and finding solid footing isn't always an option. I'd like to see how diliberate lack of equilibrium affects shooting - I suppose if the shoulders are properly squared and the release is well timed it shouldn't be that far off...
Whatdya all say?
Juan
dont we have till friday to make the match stick shot?
I don't know... Who's running this show anyways? :biglaugh:
Nock 'em dead, bowmaster!
i think the way it is set up is you have a week (till fri 8pm)to make the shot the fith person to post their reuslts calls the next shot. but i could be wrong and really it doesnt matter the more different shots ia can take the better the practice :) and lor dknows i need the practice
Yes sir thats how it is.. U have tell friday for the match shot at 8pm... Nice shooitng there NC..
What kind of arrows are u shooitng there ?
I thought we had till this coming Friday to do the 3 arrows from the knees and then next week we would do Cody's challenge
i believe you are correct razor maybe to help with some of the confussions shots should not be called until the monday after the closen of the previous shot?
if my assumation is correct we are talking eight pm east coast time correct ?
Cold shot. 3 from the knees at 20 yards.
That was the first time I have taken a shot from my knees since 1986! I was suprised with as good as i did.
Bottom arrow 1st shot, middle arrow 2nd shot and top arrow was 3rd shot. I had a great group until I let the 2nd arrow fly. :jumper:
Nice Bow
Yea the match stick shot starts this Saturday. Last week was the bottle cap, this week until Friday @ 5 is the 3 shots at 20 kneeling, and next week is the matchstick at 60 (30 for those without 60)
18Apr09: Closest to hitting bottle cap at 15 yds
25Apr09: Best 3 shot group from 20 yds. kneeling
02May09: Hit a match stick at 60 yds/30 yds
Thanks guys. Were does the 60 come from. i have seen it mentioned by several people but I don't remember seeing it in Cody's post.
I can't attemp the 30 yard shot. 25 yards is as far as I can go in the backyard. Urban archery sometimes has it's limits.
I could get 30 yards in the front yard but if I miss I'll have to sneek into my neighbor's yard to get my arrow back provided I don't skewer one of the gazzillion cats free roaming the neighborhood.
i think cody edited his post to say 30 because alot of people couldnt do the 60
Sorry guys, looks like I screwed up. Consider my match stick post a next week thing. I'll try to post my three from the knee today.
Not so great. I guess the third time's the charm since my last arrow is in the middle. Bring on the matchstick!
Yea Cody originally said 60 to mock the famous Howard Hill feat, but unfortunately a lot of us don't have that kind of yardage, so I guess it's if you got it, do it. If not, make do with what ya got.
I'm ready for the next one!! I'm gonna try and do a video for each one of mine.
I'm finally getting around to this one. jeeze!
My first three shots of the day. On my knees at 20yrds.
I thought I would catch up on last week's shot. I couldn't find a soda bottle, and since we are shooting for the cap anyway, I stuck an Amber Bock bottle in the old block target. I was about an inch low.
Well took my shots and didn't have a wide enough lens to get them in the picture :biglaugh: :biglaugh: But am still lovin the challenges. I have a challenge in mind so will have to try to be the fith post some week.
I've been trying to get some shots worthy to post. Shot Greg's bow yesterday with some POC arrows from Wildcat Canyon.
Sorry you have to turn your head sideways to see this right. It looked better in person. I was on my knees on the deck at 20 yds. Got these shots in between the rain drops. Shot just over the tennis ball.
Where is everybody? I start play'n and you all go inside!?
Well here is my entry for the match stick at 30 yds challenge.
Wait a minute. That's just my set up.....
Here is my entry...
First shot low. I expected that.
Second shot was not too shabby!
I shot a round of 3D this morning so I'll have to wait to try Cody's matchstick challenge. Not that the 3D is going to help me out on the shot, but I want to follow the "first shot of the day" rule. Now if I can just find a match the size of a firelog...
i hit it barley to the tip of the water botttle no pics i was surpised
Bona! Nice shooting! AND you got Greg to shoot too!!
I'm on the road folks, still trying to get a camera and computer to hold hands....this week is Cody's shot...the results already posted should count towards the 5th poster...Bona's post is #3 with a matchstick in it,unless someone else sees another...
This kind of shooting is fun and challenging. I'm glad you spoke up 2knives.
Just stumbled across this thread yesterday. This is gonna be fun. Here is my first attempt at the matchstick @ 30 challenge. 1st arrow is the lowest, 2nd arrow just above 1st and the 3rd was just high and left of the toothpick I substituted for the matchstick. To be honest I can't even see the toothpick at 30 yds. That is why I placed it right of the dot so at least I knew where it was. Can't wait for the next challenge. Paul<><
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/pmills1956/ms1.jpg)
Scratch mine. I just done some reading further back on Codys challenge. I realized it wasn't a 3 shot try but only 2 shots. I had read earlier about the other challenges and noticed they were 3 shots and just assumed this one was too. Oh well I'll pay better attention next time. Good challenge Cody. Lets do the next one. Paul<><
First shot missed the mark. Second shot was pretty dang close. I grabbed my bow, 2 arrows, and the camera to head out and take this one after the rain let up this morning. I forgot my glove, and man it felt funny shooting without it.
awesome shot!
I've been playing, but just posting because I nothing been all that good. At least my group from 20 yards yesterday was under 6".
Does this one count???....it was my 1st shot of the day...honest.
Cool thread...looks like you guys n gals are having fun. ;)
Sorry Terry, it must be a three shot group from 20 yds kneeling... :biglaugh:
Well.....the 1st one was at 20 yards, but the target ran off.
I have a feeling you would have put 2 more in him if the situation called for it..I guess we will let you slide this time...
No 3 shots from the knees at 20 was last weeks, this week it's the match stick. You would have had to put a match stick on him first, then back off to 60 yds.
Terry nice pig.... How is every one doing with the match stick shooitng ?
Cody, did you see my second shot? Do you think it was cheating to put it in a black circle on a white background? I was a little impressed with myself. Used a 39# BBO and cedar arrows.
B.Glass as long as the match is up on the target it fine with me..... I see your one shot fine shooitng...
Cody
Terry,
Yeah it counts as long as you show a pic of the matchstick! :bigsmyl:
NICE Pig!!
First shot a little low to the right, the impact of arrow spun the ball to the right. Second shot was high. I did a lot better than I thought I was going to do, for I could not see that dam match to save my life. Thanks for calling that shot Cody, that was fun.
Nice shootin, Hooper!
I missed by (ehum)...several inches. Thanks for the shot Cody.
rod251, tomorrow's Friday, you're up next to declare the next shot for the coming week.

I'll go ahead and throw it out there today. We'll make it a hunting scenerio shot.
How many times have we been hunting and our game comes into range before we have a chance to stand up to shoot. Or maybe you hunt from a ground blind. It's time to practice the sitting shot. One shot at the animal target of your choice, from... lets say... 17 yards away, from a sitting position. On the ground, in a chair, or from a stand, your choice. This is one I practice year round so I'll be ready come October. We're not really trying to hit a tiny target on this one, let's just see some pretty kill shots. Have fun!
Here is my 30yrd. shot at a match stick.
Not too shabby for not practicing at this distance in awhile. Thanks for the challenge Cody
(http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/JOHN4Mystikbow/DSCF0694.jpg)
I'd say so MYSTIKBOW!!! That's two dead deer!!
Nice shooting!
Bona

Hey everybody, feel free to let us know what you are shooting. Maybe include a pic of your setup.
Bona

Thanks Bona,
I shot 29" Gold Tip 35/55 Expedition Hunters from my 58", 55# Great Plains TD. Birds eye maple and Cocobolo riser with tonkin cane bamboo limbs.
I'll try to get a pic up tomorrow.
John
Terry did you miss the soda bottle? i didn't see that stuck to that pigs side. :biglaugh:
nice pig brother!
Cool thanks!! I'll try to get my video up as soon as possible with this one.
18Apr09: Closest to hitting bottle cap at 15 yds
25Apr09: Best 3 shot group from 20 yds. kneeling
02May09: Hit a match stick at 60 yds/30 yds
09May09: Vitals shot from a sitting position at 17 yds
I don't have an animal target, so I printed out a "Vitals" target I'll tape to a bag. Is that acceptable?
Leo - That was a great idea posting all the shots called weekly. I was loosing track, good thinking, thanks.
fido dog - If I may so bold to speak, I think for everyone participating in this thread to say that we all are not always going to have the same equipment for the shot called for that week, improvise as close to the shot is just fine. The idea to keep your skills sharp and to have fun shooting is the idea, a good idea started from 2Knives.
I think Hooper hit the nail on the head. Just shoot what ya got and have fun with it!
I'm gonna be real busy tomorrow so I thought I'd shoot this morning. Hope that's OK. Here's my sitting 17yd shot and a pic of my setup. Crow Creek Blackfeather 41# @ 27", full length Carbon Express 100's with 175 grains up front. My shot was a bit high but I can live with that seeing how I haven't even had my morning cup of coffee yet. What does everyone think of shortening the time for the shot to say maybe 3 days. I can hardly wait till the next challenge.Paul<><

fidodog (or anybody else), where did you find the vitals print out? I have been looking for one and could not find any.
Thank
Aww hell Chester. I don't remember. It took me about an hour to find one. I think my search ended up like "archery vitals target" or something. Mine is actually a pixelated enlargement of PART of the whole target.
My very first shot of the day, no warm ups. 17 yards, sitting on the bucket, at a pic of a squirrel, shooting my Schafer 62" 63# @ 28" with one of my footed cedar shafts.

As you can see this squirrel lived to fight another day.
After I posted the pics, I went back out and totally wore that squirrel out. That was alot of fun and great practice. Now I'll print out some more pictures of small critters, rabbits, prarie dogs, and the like. I work the swing shift today so I can play for a while. :goldtooth:
I'm gonna go ahead and post mine early too. My setup is:
Samick Red Stag, 45lbs @28"
Gold Tip Trad 3555, full length w/150 grain tips and 5" shield cut feathers

17 yards, sitting in my LSU lawn chair, dead deer. I may have to start bringing my chair to the 3D shoots if I'm gonna get results like this!
Super nice shot. Dead deer for sure.
Hahaha, this is such a cool thread i sure can't promise any really good shots but i am so taking part in this. I'll give some of the "trials" a few tries tomorrow at the range and see what happens.
Where is everyone??
I'm heading outside in a little bit here to do mine.
Man I have not seen many in some time.. it hit and miss...
Well, here's mine.

I thought I could shoot with them on, but not when I got back to anchor. The wire got in the way of my sight picture. It was ridiculously humid out today, by the time I was done shooting you would have thought I just ran a few miles.
mystikbow....can i move in with you...awesome target setup man...i'll mow the lawn with tweezers man...i swear i will
Leo, I liked the begining with fast motion, you looked like Charle Chaplin lol.
elkherder, Now thats funny right there.

That's exactly what my wife said!
I've been around, just not posting anything, because I don't really have anything to post.

First shot of the day. 17 Yards and sitting. This was the very first time I have ever shot from a sitting position. Guess my military training of "center mass" took over :)
Now I know why I stand before taking a shot but do see how practicing this shot would help. Wouldn't you know it, my next shot was in the kill zone.
mystikbow, you have the honor of calling next week's shot. For now, let's see some more pretty 17-yard kills.
Here is my shot of the week. First shot of the day at 17yrds from a sitting position. Shot my Black Widow PSR III, 53#@30 1/2 this week. Shooting Gold Tip 5575. rod251 thanks for calling the shot.

Looks like a good double-lunger to me Hooper!
Finnaly got a chance to catch up....wish my life wasn't so chaotic....I'd like to play as well.
No Robert...but the hog ran for water I'll tell ya that!!!
Good stuff guys n gals.
Jump in as you can, Terry.
No formalities, besides it's your yard... :saywhat: :wavey:

(http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu3/dmanwarren/100_0790.jpg)Well there it is 17 paces from my hooters stool. I shot a little high because my target is getting worn out [NOT!!!] Cant wait for the next challenge.
Mooseman tell us about that beautiful bow.
I hear ya Terry. Someone wanted to change the shot every 3 days. If it was less than a week I probably never get the shot in! Sometimes I wish my life wasn't so hectic but I wouldn't cut out a thing.
Well it stopped raining for today. Here's my entry.
VA Bowbender I like the recycled bulls eye. If you miss you could yell out an appropriate word and still be covered. :biglaugh:
rod251 that bow was made by John Holzrichter from Wichita Ks. It has spalted maple for riser, maple and red elm limbs with black glass on back and clear glass on belly. It is super lite and shoots very well. specs are 52# @ 28" and 60" long. John is a great shot and great bowyer that has probably forgoten more about making bows than most of have ever known. Oh and it spits a 580 grain arrow at 172 fps. theres faster out there but thats fast enough for me.
That spalted maple is the stuff! The arrow speed is just icing on the cake.
Ok folks here is the next challenge for this Fri. I really liked VA Bowbenders bullseye idea so here goes. I KNOW everybody has access to TP.
Set up your TP roll on end so you can see into it. Pace off 16yrds and see if you can group your first three arrows into the end of the TP roll.
It's your choice to sit,stand,kneel... you get the idea.
Mooseman,
I bet on your first shot in the morning go off the target, off the tree and into the drivers side door of the van on the right side of the the picture frame. If you call it that would be a heck of a shot.
Pac - That was a good one, made me laugh.
MYSTIKBOW - As soon as I seen VA Bowbenders entry I thought the same thing, that would make a great shot of the week, good call. Looking forward to this one.
Does that mean I have to do this again. (http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h21/VAbowbender/Animations/doh1-1.gif)
Y'all shoot at the paper roll. ( (http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h21/VAbowbender/Animations/whistle1.gif)BTW, that was a 20 yrd shot)
I'm going to go try this again but with the Pittsley Predator this time, I shoot that better.
I had this posted elsewhere for another competition.

Yes, but for this not everyone can post video.
I'm always trying to come up with goofy stuff to make it more interesting.
Here's a real fun one;
Take a "Block" or Styrofoam square and suspend it on a rope. Put a target of whatever you choose on
one side. Then spin the block and try to hit the target.
double post...sorry (http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h21/VAbowbender/Animations/mistake.gif)
aah you've done that one too eh?!
My girls love the suspended block target!
Each one gets to draw their own target on opposite sides of the block and see who can hit their side the most. What a blast!! :bigsmyl:
i like the clay pidgeon idea, shows definate results

First 5 shots on the TP roll, the first shot caused the roll to fall off. But you can see the 3 nails that I used to hold it in place.
When were you shooting Chester? It looks like you were shooting in the middle of the night...
ok here's mine, and if it seems that my tp roll is overly large...well most people that know me know I'm full of __it. shots were taken sitting down of course! :D

I got both kids in bed and asleep so it was at least 9:30, probably more like 10:00.
I REALLY need to start shooting regularly again. This is embarrasing.

Holy crap Larry!! Looks like a carpet tube. :biglaugh:
I'm still working on getting a target. Working overtime but I should have an empty roll soon. :bigsmyl:
First shot way low, second shot almost got it, third shot high. This was a fun one!
Went out after seeing this and first shot was little low little right. Second was right in but third was inch to the right..

Keep this going. Its a great time.

Looks like bowsander gets to call next week's shot, so think up a good one for us. We still have all week to shoot 3 at the tissue roll. Who's gonna be the first to put all 3 inside the roll?
McCullough Griffin, 48@30. Toilet paper roll, sitting on my turkey stool, 16 yards.

Well I cant call this one first shot of the day because I did go to a trad shoot earlier today. But when I got home I decided I wasnt shot out yet.So anyways this one was from 16 yards and I had to remove the roll to find the second arrow I shot. Man I got to get some new targets these are getting shot out pretty b (http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu3/dmanwarren/100_0809.jpg)

EricW that was a lot easier than the crap we were shootin thru today.
Probly' the coolest arra's i've ever seen :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
I'm still stiff from hunting pigs all weekend but I gave it a try. 1st arrow in center, 2nd to left 3rd right
loosened up a bit and actually hit the center and within 2 inches with the other two arrows on my next try.
I tried a new shot the other day. I took two water bottles and stood the first one on the ground and placed the other bottle upside down and balanced on the first bottle's cap. the goal was to hit both caps at the same time. came close but no cigar yet.
I'm a little behind on my posts. This is the first shot of the day on Friday. A clean MISS!
17 yards, sitting on a bucket, quartering away, and over the farm equipment.
Second shot of the day. (Since the first was a clean miss and the deer often give you the second chance, I thought I would take it).
Fox longbow 47 lbs @ 26", CE Heritage arrows, 660 gr total, 300-325 gr up front.
Trying something new, so my shots were a little off. Im shooting a 53# Zipper, with Easton Axis or CX Heritage arrows.
Most current "First Shot", shots. The first and the third shots were the closest and almost identical.
I thought I would add a little "TWIST" to this senario shot of the day, so I hung the TP roll and let it swing freely. By the way for the record, these are NOT my first three shots of the day, more like 10,11,12, so I'm disqualified.

I'm practicing with my Howard Hill "Tembo" 75#@28" and my footed split hex pine arrows.
How do I get in on this fellas? Looks like fun. Who decides what the challege is and how often is it posted? - Timothy
Timothy,
Just jump in. Go back to the begining, set up your shots, post your pics, and have fun with it.
I think we've decided that the 5th person to post chooses the next senario. Honor system rules.
First 3 shots of the day at 16yrds standing. First shot was real low, the second was right next to the tube and the third was to the left of the second shot. That was fun. Thanks for calling the shot of the week MYSTIKBOW.
I've only had my bow for about 3 months and was really impressed to see you guys hit stuff on the first shot of the day. I have been lucky to hit my target on the first shot! But, I have been seeing improvement lately and thought I'd try this for myself and see how it went.
I found that I really have to concentrate and kinda' rein (http://i732.photobucket.com/albums/ww323/tcwimages/_MG_8021_1st.jpg) (http://i732.photobucket.com/albums/ww323/tcwimages/_MG_8023_1-4th.jpg) in my attention. It is helping a lot. Here's my first shot today, followed by a shot showing my 1-4th shots.
I'm getting there...
Oh, and this is from 11 yards with a Ben Pearson Recurve 66", 50# @ 28" Aluminum shaft arrows.
18Apr09: Closest to hitting bottle cap at 15 yds
25Apr09: Best 3 shot group from 20 yds. kneeling
02May09: Hit a match stick at 60 yds/30 yds
09May09: Vitals shot from a sitting position at 17 yds
16May09: 16 yds, 3 arrows inside an empty TP roll, any position
ttt
If I don't get to pick a shot, I want someone to call a Terry Green shot or a moving target shot.
Looks like everybody's been busy this week. I leave for Florida with my daughter on a school trip this evening.
Who's calling the next shot?
If I counted right then it's bowsander's call on the next shot. Somebody may want to double-check my countin'.
I was just checking in to see if the next shot was called and I too would say rod251, that bowsander has the honor of calling the next shot.
I am ready now fellas! Let's get another one "called." Strung and waiting...

What is the yardage/situation for the shot?
my shot is 15 yards. you stand up. hang a ping pong ball by fishing line in front of a backstop. You get 2 arrows and you need to stick the arrow through it not nic-it.
This is gonna be a good one! I have to go buy a ping pong ball sometime this week.
23May09: 15 yds/2 arrows/standing/arrow through ping pong ball hanging from fishing line
I have hit lifesavers doing the same thing. A ping pong ball should be no problem......right?

Yeap, Wally World has 'em. This one is going to be fun!

I'll have to spray paint a black background on my backstop because it's all white.
Well here's my entry for this week.

I don't think I'll be able to puncture the ball though. I hit it well on three different shots and it bounced to the side. It might because I have bullet points and their not sharp and narrow. I'll try broadheads and blunts next.
Next nine shots.
Hey VA Bowbender, I couldn't help but notice you were shooting both three and four fletched arrows, which do you like better/is there any difference?
Can't wait to do this shoot, have to find something to use or go get some ping pong balls.

I don't see any appreciable difference between 3 and 4 fletch. With 4 you don't have to worry about cock feather location.

Dont give up bowbender. You think its imposible but soon enough you will hit it perfect and have a trophy arrow with a ping pong ball on it that you will brag about.

Give up? (http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h21/VAbowbender/Animations/nono1.gif) You don't know me very well, do you. (http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h21/VAbowbender/Animations/xxc_laugh1.gif) Like I said my field tips are the rounded bullet style and the ball bounces off. (http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l79/rodney71251/100_7251.jpg)
Sorry guys' no pics'this time, The battery in the camera is in need of a charging. So you'll just have to take my word for it(honor system right?) I did NOT hit the ping pong ball with either of my first three shots of the day. as a matter of fact, I couldn't hit it with fifty shots today.
I'm getting very frustrated. First shot very close, second hit it and it bounced away...again, third pretty close. Out of about 25 shots I hit the dang thing three times and never made a dent in it. OH, I was trying broadheads also, hit it with one of them too and it bounced. :banghead: (http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h21/VAbowbender/Animations/mad21.gif)
I'll try again tomorrow.
At least you're consistent, haha
(http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu3/dmanwarren/100_0823.jpg)
Didnt have a ping pong ball so i used a cap off a propane bottle first shot hit but no shis-k-bob.
Haha, now that's a traditionalist right there, using a Dacron string to hold up the target object.
Success (sorta)
Well I finally killed the sucker!
Now seeing this is "HONOR system" I have to tell ya, this was the 2nd round of three. On the fourth shot I centered the ball. Also as you can see in the picture I steadied the ball with 4 small nails.
With that in mind I'll not lay claim to the next shot, unless no one else does better before time runs out on this shot.
:bigsmyl:
I will keep trying in the proper challenge though.
Side note:
On my first attempt I used a Pittsley Predator 54# @ 30", second attempt was a Fred Bear Cusom TD 54# @ 30", third attempt was a AMF Wing Red Wing Hunter 60# @ 30". All shot with Gold Tip 5575 w/250gr field tips.

Nice shot VA! Even if it took a few times! My fourth or fifth shot made it dance. I used a WW on mine but I haven't had a chance to try anymore. It is still set up though so I plan to try somemore.

That way everyone that wants to, has plenty of time to shoot....Rather than wait to see who is closest; the 5th person to post their shot; picks the next one..???
That would mean - split arrow - was 5th to post with his shot/pic...he picks the next one this time.
I guess you're right, I missed that post. I didn't have one in mind anyway.

Next is the set up. ping pong ball suspended from flu flu in front of block target
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/pmills1956/setup.jpg)
Shot #1 low left shot #2 alittle higher but still left shot #3 overcompensated and shot right
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/pmills1956/firstattempt.jpg)
Shots #'s 4,5 & 6
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/pmills1956/456.jpg)
Now I'm going back out there and shoot till I get that little sucker. I'm rerady for the next challenge. Paul<><
NO NO NO.... we won't be ricocheting arrows off of the side of the barn, or shooting from the front yard over the house to the back yard.
Here is my idea...

One shot at a buisness card on edge, between 12 and 15 yards, with a broadhead (optional). Notice Iv'e bent the corner of the card a bit, so that I could see the darned thing. I'll be using the "Tembo" with a Modoc "Chief" broadhead.
Kodiakkid,
Yeah, be very carefull, that ping pong ball can get very frustrating.
I really like those shield cut feathers of yours.
I guess I'm gonna have to buy a feather burner.
Ya know I had a feel'n this was a come'n.
Hitting a ping pong ball was hard enough, now this! Can a "Gobbler Guillotine" be used, not that I have any?
HOLY CRAP, I DID IT!
On the first round, third shot I hit the card. I shot from about 15 yards. I shot a second round and I was close but not as good as the first round. Then I moved back to my usual 20 yard shooting position and said to myself "what the hell, have at it".
On the third round, third shot I hit it dead on it's edge! I knew I should have had the video camera out there today.
Notice the card on the ground.
Arrow in-line with stick to hold card.
You can see the tear in the edge of the card in this picture.
YEEEEEHAW!!! great job!
I was able to put the card back in my wallet, not a scratch on it. I bet if I had used one of my credit cards I'Da cut that sucker right in half.
Now, the reason that I didn't take pics',is that I was getting complete pass-throughs with my shots. This was the first time that I had ever shot broadheads at my bag target, imagin my suprise. I thought maybe it was a fluke, so I shot 5 or 6 more times with the same results, go figure. Iv'e never had a pass-through with my field points. I guess the broadheads are cutting thier way through and the field points are trying to push thier way through.
LUCK over Skill everytime, brother!
:goldtooth:
Good shot VA! I may have to try this one.
Well I probably shot another 50 times. I've had that little white sucker dancing but I've yet to stick it. Those little black mosquitos have forced me to quit shootin for today. I'll be back at it first thing in the morning right after I try splittin the buisness card. I know I can stick it cause thats how I wound up with the ball. It was a novelty shoot at 1 of the local 3-d shoots. Course I was shootin my crow creek longbow with carbons. Plus the ball was suspended on a tight line, not free swinging. I'll give out before I give up! Paul<><
Hope this works. First time posting a video clip.
This was NOT my first shot it was the fourth. First 3 just missed. 1-2 high and just left 3 just right. 12 yrds kneeling.
(http://i324.photobucket.com/albums/k347/ewellman/th_cardshot.jpg) (http://s324.photobucket.com/albums/k347/ewellman/?action=view¤t=cardshot.flv)
Hey cool it worked. Shooting a old Locksley semi recurve 40@28" 1916 Easton Blues with Muzzy Phantom heads 125gn.
Cool vid Eric!!! Heres my try at it, I used my Saxon American #55 @ 28" with 620 grain ceders tipped with grizzly 160's. My first shot just to the right, my second hit the nock of the arrow I was holding the card with and it fluttered to ground. So I shot my third at where I thought the card used to be and it went in the split I made with the second arrow.

I think that bow likes 12 yards and I posted my pics out of order OOPS!
Good lookin bow Dave. Don't think I've seen that one yet.
Eric I'll bring it next weekend down to Big Indian shoot, it sure hits hard with those heavy arrows and you know I like my longbows but this one has more of a longbow style grip so it feels about the same.
I am late with my ping pong shot but thought I post it any way. Just got caught up on all the postings, nice shooting guys. Oh, and Leo your video was funny as hell. Man just had one of those weeks and didn't get to shoot until Friday evening and then our Internet connection was running real slow.
Well here is my first two shots standing at 15yrds at ping pong ball.
Fist shot was about 3-4in high to the left a little.
My second shot was all luck, I hit the ball in the bottom right hand corner and it flung on the string over my first shot arrow. I couldn't believe it. I thought with my third shot that I would center that ball good, no way, I must of shot forty more time at it, what luck.
Took a little chip out of it. That was a fun call to shoot, thanks bowsander.
I cut out a piece of paper the size of a business card to use. Turns out in the Al. humidity, it got a little damp and drooped here and there. I shot at it anyhow.
FIRST shot... (http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk155/DBSULLY/holmmadecardshot001.jpg)
How'd I manage to do that and not cut it?!?!?!
Second shot. (http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk155/DBSULLY/holmmadecardshot006.jpg)
Third shot. (http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk155/DBSULLY/holmmadecardshot008.jpg)
I give up. Hah!
Ooops forgot to post my set-up.
Holm-Made Osprey longbow, 60" 67#@29" 30" GT 55-75's with 175 grain Magnus I's.
I decided to glue on a couple old Bear razorheads for this one.
1st shot low but dead on left and right. The broadhead cut the shaft holding the card.
I know it's a 1 shot challenge but I couldn't help myself. 2cd shot just about 1 1/2 inches to the left.
Gotta get ready for church but I'll be back after this one this afternoon. Paul<><
This isn't "THE" shot of the day but it was MY first shot of the day, yesterday.
The one to the right was the first shot of the day. I may have had an unfair advantage. He only had one eye and I shot him on his blind side!
Here's my entry shooting my boy's BBO and cedar arrows with a WW on the business end!
First shot. Missed the whole target on the second shot.
I did that shooting on Friday, BTW.
Ok so i don't know where better to say this then on here. This happened a few months ago in the dead of winter when i took a bow that i had just made over to my girlfriends house to range. So i was shooting into her neighbors backyard (after asking them of course) to see how far i could shoot with it and was coming up at about 80 yards. That was when i started to actually aim for things in there yard thinking i would never hit them.... Never a good idea. Try this shot... 80 yards with a 8# @ 28 and hit a hanging bird feeder..... Thankfully it was only an eight pound bow and only left a little mark. I've since found somewhere better to test out the 40#.... :)
How's the shooting going?
Kodiakid calls the next shot. But we have until Friday with the business card shot, right?
I'll be trying to come up with something. Paul<><
I'll go ahead and post next weeks shot. How about 18 yds, kneeling (http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/pmills1956/setup-1.jpg)
and try to shoot into the mouth of a 16 or 20 ounce plastic drink bottle
I forgot to mention I am feeling generous so I'll give ya 6 shots. And here is my try at it. Not much of a try though. LOL
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/pmills1956/shots.jpg)
How many tries? two, three, maybe four hundred?
6 shots mooseman. I forgot to mention that in the first post but I did get it in my second post. It may take me 400 tries to get an arra in the mouth of the bottle. LOL
Got my 150 grain screw-in Woodmans in today! Not too bad I guess, but I gotta practice with broadheads more often. I forgot how unforgiving they can be compared to field tips. In case you're wondering about the sideways string, that's the yarn from the ping pong shot still clinging to the target. I had to turn the target on its side to get the card in a vertical position.
So, did anyone ever get penetration on the ping pong ball? Iv'e been trying ever since the challenge was set, I can make it dance, but we could still play a round of table tennis with it. It sure is fun trying though :archer:

I stuck it, but only after A LOT of tries. I didn't take a photo of it. I guess looking back I should have. Oh well, I have 3 ping pong balls left. Maybe I can stick one of them and get a pic of it as proof. At any rate, it is entirely possible to do with field tips.

Got it just a few moments ago. No telling how many times I shot and how much dancing it done but I finally got it. I'm still after the sideways card. I'll give out for I give up. Bowbender you gonna be at the S.T.A.R. shoot this weekend? Paul<><
hehehehehehehe :D
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/pmills1956/DSC01133.jpg)
Well after posting I had to go out and try to do it again. It happened on the 6th arrow of this group. It was probably around the 20th arrow of the session. Not a good group mind you, but I killed the ping pong ball. Now I have 2 ping pong balls left. When it's my turn to call again I need to come up with a creative shot to use them up.

I had to make a choice between STAR and ATAR, I chose ATAR.
Good shot Paul
This is my 3rd shot, once I got my set up right.
High and outside. I was going to use a broadhead but my target is getting too chewed up, so I used a field point. Nice shooting Chester. I see some of you guys centered that ping pong ball, nice! I am still trying to pin that little burger to the bale.
No shooting before work today. It's raining so hard it looks like a cow peeing on a flat rock. (http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h21/VAbowbender/Animations/cussing.gif)
Good shootin Chester
Yeah I know, sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.
Here's my attempt:
Turns out using a glass bottle wasn't the best idea. I knew it would break and I'd have to pick up glass, that's not a problem. But when I finally hit it, I ruined an arrow. I think I hit the lip of the bottle. Here are the results:
The arrow rebounded and landed on the ground. The nock went flying out. It is still missing in action. The tip was mushroomed. And lastly, the insert was driven back into the shaft, mushrooming it as well. Oh well, at least my 4-year-old Natalie has a new arrow now. I'll stick with plastic bottles from now on!
Don't you hate when that happens, my nocks usually come flying off when I hit something hard.
Well this is my shot of the week. Hit the side of the bottle on the fifth shot. I am down to 5 arrows and had to use one of my aerial fletched arrows.

Hey Rod i make my own arrows and they are very trad and everything but i still use metal tips of course. Me being kinda new to the whole archery thing i'm not all that accurate :banghead: and they still fly true and fine with a little maintaince now and again. I'll post some picks later....
:campfire:
Yes, pics would be great, and thanks for the tip!
Well it took 5 shots to get it, but I got'er done.
I used the Pittsley Predator today, Gold Tip 5575's and 250 bullet field tips(as usual).
This was a fun one too.
Good shootin bowbender. I still ain't got it yet. Ain't got the sideways card yet either. I'll be at ATAR also. I'll have a small vending tent set up. My wife and I will be selling bowsocks, handmade clay pottery. We try and set up on the corner up by the building. We call ourselves No Wheels Traditional Archery. Stop by and say hi. Paul
Thanks Paul.
Keep shoot'n you'll hit it sooner or later.
I'll look for you at ATAR. (if I make it)
1) The first plan I made this year was to go to The Baltimore Classic.
The wife wound up in the hospital. Plan fell through.
2)Second Plan. I took off work on the Sunday before Memorial Day like every year to ride in Rolling Thunder to the "Wall" in Washington, DC. The wife had too much school work to do and couldn't ride with me. Everyone else was gone.
Second Plan shot in the ass! (http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h21/VAbowbender/Animations/cussing.gif)
3)Third Plan. My brother rode with his wife from TX to VA then NY and back. I was to ride with him down the Blue Ridge Pkwy to points south. His bike developed mechanical problems and he had to head straight home. No ride for me. (http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h21/VAbowbender/Animations/doh1-1.gif)
4) Fourth Plan. Go to ATAR. We'll see what happens?

Went out for a little shootin session and finally got it. After I do my initial shots at the challenge and don't get it I shoot at em then till I get it. This was actually my 8th shot that got er done. Shot my selfbow all weekend up at the S.T.A.R. shoot so I decided to give it a rest. Got out the Crow Creek Black Feather with the carbon express 100's. Must admit I shoot it a little better than the selfbow. Almost dark here but I'm going back out and try the sideways buisness card a few shots.
If you had a mouse looking out that hole you would not have needed as many arrows. ;)
I hear ya James. It must be my lucky day.(or night) I went back outside to try the buisness card and this happened on the 11th shot. Same setup but had a couple magnus heads on them CX 100's
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/pmills1956/DSC01136.jpg)
See I told ya you'd ge it. :clapper:
good shootin' guys!
AAARRRRRGGGGHHH!!!!!!! there I got that out of my system. Arrow #27 finally got it.
Yes, mighty fine shootin' guys/gals
Who calls the next one?
It's mooseman's call for next week.
Arrow #6!! Out of the first group (5 arrows) 4 were touching the bottle 1 was 2" left and up. First shot from the second group was perfect!! :) :)
caleb7mm,
Is that a Viper Longbow? It looks just like the one I have. If it is how do you like it. It semms to shoot good for you too. I think $199.00 for a new bow that shoots that good it was a real bargain.
Not sure but I think I'm poster #6. Someone doublecheck please so I know how devios my mind has to be this week.
This is how I counted it.
1) kodiakkid
2) Chester Thompson
3) rod251
4) Hooper
5) VA Bowbender
6) kodiakkid
7) mooseman1967
8) caleb7mm
Am I correct?
I had my self as number six cause kodiakkid is in there twice.

sounds good to me

hey bowbender, that longbow is a Adirondack Hunter I picked up yesterday for a real good price. Its been shooting great for me!
thanks!
I like the bottle. Mine hit home on the 8th arrow. Anyone tear up any flethchings removing their arrow??....lol
My bottle's still on my target. Good, small point to aim at at longer distances.
I'll take photos if I do anything special! Good shootin', guys!
Looks to me like Vabowbender calls the next shot. The way I counted he was the 5th to post. I can hardly wait. Give us a good one. Paul<><
My backyard looks like swamp, we've had so much rain. I have 3 different ideas. Let me think it over and I'll post it soon.

Top pic is the 5th and 6th shots.
Bottom pic is the ? shot.
Bona
Nice one girl!
b.glass,
Looks like you may need to refletch that one after you remove it. GREAT SHOOTING
Okay gang,
Here's one I've wanted to try for a very long time. This will be an instinctive shooting exercise. The muzzleloader's do this at different events.
The Candle Shoot:
*Distance; 15yrds to whatever you want. (I like 18-20yrds)
*How many arrows; up to 6.
*Position; whatever you like.
*Object of the excercise; to snuff the flame and NOT hit the candle.
* OH, by the way did I mention you have to wait until dark or at least dusk.
* HINT ; put the candle at least one arrow length away from the backstop. That way you won't burn anything up.
I'm going to try to do video of this one. If you have the equipment and the urge please do the same.
And no comment about the grass. I told you it's like a swamp in my backyard from all the rain.
I don't see any grass.....lol.
Looks fun. Maybe when the storm's over.....
dang, all of the candles have been packed by the wife for the BIG move already. I will have to wait till next week.
Man I've been so dang busy I missed the last couple of challenges. It's raining like crazy here too but I think I should be able to get out tomorrow evening. I REALLY Wanna shoot this one.
Hey Caleb7mm, any good grocery store should have some emergency candles on the shelf.
Heres' my coke can (I didn't have a bottle) 6 shots first of the day. (http://i544.photobucket.com/albums/hh334/unclewhit/DSCN4663.jpg) (http://i544.photobucket.com/albums/hh334/unclewhit/DSCN4662.jpg) (http://i544.photobucket.com/albums/hh334/unclewhit/DSCN4664.jpg)
I'm waiting till dark to try the candle trick, it won't be my first shots of the day but I'm thinkin' it'll still be a challenge. I can see where a video would be good for this one, but I can't do videos so you'll have to take my word for it. Good luck everyone.
The bottle skinned up the cap wrap a little. Nothing to worry about! I did take a "few" tries mind you.
Well here's my entry for the "Candlestick Challenge".
I had a REAL BLAST trying this one. I came very close to snuffing out the flame, put a couple of arrows through the flame but didn't put it out. I wish I had taken pictures of the arrows in the backstop but oh well.
I hope y'all enjoy this challenge. I look forward to seeing how everyone does. Shooting in the dark is a different experience.
Good luck.
Here's the video, click on it to view for those of you that might not know:

VA that was AWESOME, I found myself cheering for ya with every shot. Music was an added bonus too. Thanks for sharing that with us.
Loved the video and the backround song was perfect!!!
That was really cool i can't wait to do it.
Great call Bowbender! This one's gonna be fun. It's weird too, I was listening to that exact song on a CD on my way home from work today! I won't be able to shoot any video, but I'll get my attempt in pretty soon.
I wish I could see it! I have to have Flash Player and can't figure out how to do that. I printed out some "trouble shooting" instructions but I don't understand Greek. When my computer guru gets home from work maybe I can see the video.
:(
Bona
Going for it tonight if the rain holds off. Great call bowbender. This one ought to be challenging for a gap shooter like myself. At least my arrows are easy to find when they make it past my target.
Great video and backround music
Even my computer guru can't get the Flash Player going! This really BITES!
:help:
Now that was cool video! One of my favorite CCR's with frogs and crickets in the background, and the suspense of each shot. Thanks for going to the trouble and sharing it with us!!

Well...are ya gonna step up and get ya some? I keep checking to see who else is gonna take a stab at it and there hasn't been anyone yet.
When do we have till to do this shot?
I might have to convince the wife that I won't burn the house down, but I'd like to try it...

I think it goes until Friday before the next one.
it has rained every night like the 40 year flood hear. If it stops one night before we move I will.
Rain here too. Just looked outside and it's raining again. If it quits I'm gonna try it tonight. Paul<><
HEY! I just noticed, The man responsible for this thread ( 2Knives ) is absent. I hope everything is OK at the 2Knives household. Was he redeployed to Iraq or something like that?
I'm gonna do this tonight.I'll try to get it on video too.
unclewhit,
As a matter of fact I think I remember 2Knives saying something about being redeployed.
2Knives,
If ya get a chance to peek in here stay safe and keep your head down brother!
Got set up. Put the candle in a plastic water bottle and wedge it in place with a piece of styrofoam.
I only have 3 arrows made up so I'll have to pull them once if I happen to miss on the first go round.
The camera is charged and just waiting for it to get dark now. In the meantime I will be prepping for victory over the flame.
Keep the candle an arrow length away from the backstop. You don't want to burn a shaft.
Just looks close in the photo. It's actually a 3 foot tall candle and big around as a baseball bat. The flame should be about the size of a dinner plate. Now if I actually snuff the flame I'll swear it is a birthday cake candle :saywhat:
just kidding it is a regular candle you would put on the table and it's about 3 feet in front of the hay bales.
Well, heres my attempt. VABowbender, good call buddy this was a riot! My son and I sat outside and shot at that candle for an hour!
(http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/JOHN4Mystikbow/th_DSCF0735.jpg) (http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/JOHN4Mystikbow/?action=view¤t=DSCF0735.flv)
I shot at the flame this evening. My husband shot the video. This was tooooo fun!
Close but no cigar. Hey, it was windy and the wind kept moving the flame on me otherwise I would have nailed it.
Left my candle in the backyard so I can try again toimarrow night. It was a blast and if I ever snuff that sucker man o man I'd be proud.
(http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc157/pactac/th_CandleChallenge.jpg) (http://s214.photobucket.com/albums/cc157/pactac/?action=view¤t=CandleChallenge.flv)
Those videos are cool. Wish I could do video. Well here's my attempt. I shot 6 times from a standing position at 17 yds. Used my osage selfbow for this one. I thought those 11/32 cedars with the big shield cuts might help me out a little. I managed to put a couple through the flame but as you can see I didn't snuff it out. This was a fun one. I'll be after it until I put it out.

I have posted all the gear that i use for shooting in the bowyers bench under the post : "New Homemade Trad Arrows and Bows"
Feel free to ask questions.
I'll be trying to get out and do this shoot tonight but with the rain and the wind which is now starting to pick up i don't know if i'll be able to, might have to be tomorrow night.
I feel kinda bad now because i have three posts now in a row because i keep thinking of things that i forgot to say...
Has anyone tried to do this shot with a broadhead and a longer wick? Maybe if you could cut the wick off....
Well there is not much to see in the following pic, because I put the light out. :D Didn't get it on the initial challenge shots last night so I took me a quiver full of woodies and my osage selfbow and went out for a few shots. Broke the candle down a couple times but I kept lighting it back. Finally snuffed the flame on probably shot # 40. This was a great challenge. Wonder what's next. Paul<><
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/pmills1956/DSC01140.jpg)
I can not believe more folks are not trying this shot. I've never tried it before last night and it was the most fun I have had in awhile. I'm sitting here waiting for it to get dark so I can go try again. Winds calm tonight so I hope that helps some.
It was a fun challenge. It was neat how you could come so close but the flame not go out. Layed the flame over several times. I even thought I had it earlier. It looked at first like I snuffed it but it popped right back up. Crossed my mind that my wife might had found a trick candle. I later ruled that idea out. Great challenge Vabowbender. Paul<><

 Thank you, I had a blast too. Other people appear to have a rain delay to contend with. I'm surprised Leo hasn't posted, I know he can do video.
I know I have had my shot at this but I could hardly wait for it to get dark tonight so I could try again. #4 was the trick :jumper:

Well I have been watching this thread and just now got to try the challenge....no video cause I stuck in the stone age with my bow. Didn't get it with my first 6 shots, but busted the top of the candle around shot 10 and put out the flame twice, around #15 and #20 (I quit counting after 6). Super fun challenge and I might start using this as routine practice, definately works the logic of "aim small, miss small".
Jethro
This thread is awesome!!!
I haven't deployed yet...couple more weeks.
I've been REAL busy lately playing catch up on the Honey Do list and work so I haven't been on the computer at all.
I just got on and saw this candle shoot.
If it doesn't rain again Me and the Boy will give it a shot tonite and I'll post our results.
Who's got the next call?

I think you do, double check me though.
Well I think the candle challenge was the best so far. Not gonna be easy to top that one, but let's see what we can come up with.
I'm sure everyone has an arrow or at least half an arrow they can do without so how about this
Position: sitting
Distance: 21yds
# of shots: 8
Target: arrow nock
Objective: robin hood the arrow or at least
bust the nock off
Now for the tricky part. You gotta do it with your eyes closed.
JUST KIDDING
Good one kid! Good one! And I was just thinking I had never had a Robin Hood!
I guess it wouldn't be right to post pics of previous RH's, would it.
Remember; it's not a true RH if you hit the nock by accident.
:knothead:
That's what I was thinking Bowbender. It's only an accident if you're not trying to do it. NOW LET'S SEE SOME OF THOSE INTENTIONAL ROBIN HOODS.. I would go try it now but I just got back from a 3-d shoot. Can't really call it first shot of the day. I believe someone will get it in 8 shots. Have fun!
Well here's my attempt
My set up a 2016 aluminum

My weapons and chair

and my shots
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/pmills1956/DSC01144.jpg)
I'll get back after this one this afternoon after church
Been back at it this afternoon. Been shootin in groups of 8. I've knocked the arrow side to side even creased the side of the shaft but no Robin Hood yet. Got the nock on the second shot of probably group # 12
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/pmills1956/nock1.jpg)
I may be after this one for awhile. Paul<><
Okay, here we go on the RH challenge.
My chair:
Now for this one I chose to use my WING Red Wing Hunter. It's a little bit heavier than my Bear or Predator, so I had to make an adjustment to the target arrow.
Arrow:
No really here's my arrow. I pulled the nock out because I don't have that many to screw up.
Real Arrow:

The Shots:
The only thing I didn't like about doing this one was at 20 yrd I couldn't pick out the right arrow to shoot at. Afterwards I found a black shaft and put a piece of styrofoam in the end. I could pick that out much better to shoot at. I still didn't hit it though.

OK Boys.....full disclosure:
1. I removed the nock like VABow did....'cause it's a perfectly good nock!
2. Wasn't in my first 8 or my first 28 (I have no idea how many shots)....but.....

Just an idea. I never seem to be the 5th person to post but i think i have a heck of an idea.

I went and tried. Alas, 12 wood arrows, some of them scraping each other real hard, none of the totally splintering the others. Has any one ever blown up an arrow "robin hoodin" it, using wood?
Pac, we used to do this alot at the club here. You can use a shop vac hose on blow pointed up. Its good fun! First things first, gotta win the present challenge!
Hey Pac that's a neat idea. My only problem is my wife has seen me shoot. She'll never agree to let me use the blow dryer.
Pac,
I LIKE IT! I'm allfor trying it next time if agreed by others.

Just get her to run the camera so she will part of the production and can't get mad at you or learn to be sneeky.
Here's my take on Pac's idea. The wife can't complain about this. I'll try to give it a "shot" later.
(http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h21/VAbowbender/Video/th_leafblower.jpg) (http://s60.photobucket.com/albums/h21/VAbowbender/Video/?action=view¤t=leafblower.flv)
sorry for the quality, I used my camera phone.
So what week are we on.....lol?
Let's give it a go! Sorry I haven't been able to "play" the last few weeks, but it's on now. Give the green light and I'll give it a try.
For those of us that can't seem to get Flasher Player downloaded, what is Pac's idea?
Bona,
It's a ping pong ball floating in the airstream of a hairdryer. I used a leaf blower with a vacuum hose on it. I haven't taken any shots at it yet though.
OK, this looks like fun. How far and how many shots?
QuoteOriginally posted by ifalls_archer:

My idea so I guess I come up with the distance and # of shots?
You get 5 shots and the distance and stance is up to you. Go for the eaiser low point shot, or risk extra points by backing up.
You can move up or back at any time. All 5 shots can be taken at 1 position or a combo of all distances.
10 yards 5 shots 1 point per hit
15 yards 5 shots 3 points per hit
20 yards 5 shots 5 points per hit
25 yards 5 shots 7 points per hit
0 points for me. I tried all of my shots at 15 yards. Kind of hard to concentrate on the ball bebopping all over the place.
(http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc157/pactac/th_floatingpingpongball2.jpg) (http://s214.photobucket.com/albums/cc157/pactac/?action=view¤t=floatingpingpongball2.flv)
Well I went out and tried the floating ball challenge. I had to run from the camera to my shooting position at about 18yrds. I had to try to shoot quick before the ball fell off the airstream. Somehow I hit the ball on my first shot! Here's the video Guys and gals.
Bona, if you still can't view video I hit the ball twice.
(http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h21/VAbowbender/Video/th_FloatingPingPongBall_0001.jpg) (http://s60.photobucket.com/albums/h21/VAbowbender/Video/?action=view¤t=FloatingPingPongBall_0001.flv)
Thanks VA! I sure wish I could see these videos!
Good shooting though...twice!
Bona
Ttt
I haven't tried this but it sounds like fun. Yesterday was the first day I was able to shoot in 6 months due to a broken left elbow. out of shape but did manage to get 6 inch groups at 8 yards(looooooooooong way from the 230's I was shooting lol). looking forward to shooting this game and then some real game in a few months.
Great idea.
Wait, 230 yards?
Wait, 230 yards?
My guess is indoor 20yrd spots target score.
230 out of 300
you would be right on the scoring. groups getting tighter, looks like I'kk be ready for then end of August.
wow. that floating ping pong idea is awesome!
Ok i was kinda confused at first. What happened this thread is dying....
Ok, im in now, but i dont have a hairdryer. ill have to borrow my moms on the weekend, hope i wont hit it.
Ill post my results on saturday...
Hey!!!!! where'd everybody go? We need to keep this one going.
I am Here Folks!! A "Newbie" at the Ping Pong Ball Shot, but I will Try to get Someone to Record it as I TRY!! If At First You Dont Succeed, Get More ARROWS!! Is 18 Yards the Rule of Thumb here? I just found this Thread and it Looks to be BIG FUN!! So.........COUNT ME IN!!

We haven't had a new shot in about two weeks now. I don't know who's turn it is so how about some ideas for this week?
Maybe we can get a group of ideas together and schedule them so we have some shots set up for the future.
That sounds like a good idea Pac. I'll have to see if i can think of any shots...
How about the ole rolling tennis ball at 15 paces?
Try to shoot thru the center hole of a CD, twelve yards sitting. If you miss the CD altogether shoot again, if you miss by just a little bit, well, you get the picture.
Tip: Use a CD that you no longer listen to, or better yet, borrow one from one of your buddies.
So, the "CD Shoot-Through" IS The Next Challenge? At 12 Yards. Just making sure, because I can Shoot at some of My Daughters Old Weirdo CDs  that She left at Home when She moved out!! I will ask first, just to be Safe! :archer: :goldtooth:
yeah i think that that should be the next challenge a simple shoot to set up yet still unique, fun, and hard.

Thanks you VA
My shot is at 18 yards not 12 but its only harder!
Just copy and past the image link. Don't use the Image button it puts in too many [img][img]
ok that makes sense
Have not tried this because I need a larger backstop. Use the little old style plastic army men in two different colors. They're small, so I'm thinking about 15-18yrds max. Strategically place them high, low or whatever. Last man with troops standing wins. The prone figures are very difficult.
12yds
Yeah! My first shot at the CD did'nt go so well ... for the CD that is. The hit was high and right, resulting five small pieces and one larger piece laying on the ground. Sorry no pics of the mess, the wife's got the camera at work.
i know its not time for a new one but i´d have a suggestion:
print out this pic as an A4 and position an arrow at each arrow! distance? suggestions please.
still have to do the cd shot
sorry, forgot the pic:

very cool shots...keep it going!

Stay safe pardner.

Not a winner but.. if it was a chicken it would be dinner :knothead:
12-13 yrds
Youre Right VA!! Old Dad gets in Enough Trouble as it is. :knothead: I will use some others, that I have Boogered Up trying to Burn Stuff on! Safety & Sanity go Hand In Hand!!
Here is my try at 12 yards. Good enough for a deer.

I can watch videos now!!! Wooo Hooo!!! Got caught up.
Did this thing fade out?? I haven't been around much myself, but back now. Anyone still doing this challenge?
Leo, I think it was fading at the floating ping pong ball. I haven't tried this one yet.
I was having a blast with it though.
I'm going to have to try the cd shot with my cane arrows also! Good to see this back up. Robert, we have some simular things in life, I was a meat cutter in my younger years, kind of miss it! And the story you told to shakes, my cousin and I did the same with my aunt's and dad's old records from the fifties! Man those babies could fly... Good shootin, Steve
