DO any of you own one and what do you think. I am thinking about getting a 52" and would love to hear any and all input on a short recurve with an all phenolic riser.
Funny you should post this. I inquired of Steve Gorr last week about the 48" Night Hawk with all phenolic and he just responded. He is not a fan of the 48", but believe the 52" would be best since he said it shoots like a 60". I want one too, but not yet decided on the limbs. Should it be osage? yew? black glass?

It should be yew, and it will shoot great!
I have a 52" and think it's a great bow. Smooth shooter with plenty of speed. :thumbsup:

Well I found an old one and I am trying to wheel and deal on it so I can try it out then take the leap and just order one. I am having a hard time ordering a new one and have never shot one. I talked to Steve and he said he id going to Packwood and I am hoping he brings one with him to try out. Hey how much does Bow Doc charge to refinish bows? If I get the older one it might need cleaned up as it has seen many days in the field and some camo spray.
Lon your a lucky guy hanging with him and the guys, The video was great and I got a chance to see a Night Hawk at Moses lake, a guy with Steve had one, I kick myself for not asking if I could try it out.
Steve's a great guy and one heck of a bowhunter as you can see in the video. By the way, he almost has enough footage for Part II.
Bowdoc's fee varies depending on how much repair/filling he has to do, but you can probably expect to pay a fair price for a complete bow. He is the best in my opinion and you will not be disappointed.
Dang nab I found one but its older and I came as close to getting it as you can. I had to change my mind and wait for a new one. This one was old and well well used. A bit to used for me. All my bows are in like new shape and I would have to call on Bow Doc to get this one in shape and with all that money going out I might as well get one in the pounds I want and it the woods I want and be the first owner of it right? Well thats what I keep telling myself. I am going to call Steve tomorrow! Unless there is someone in the Vancouver area that would let me shoot theirs. Anyone? ... Looks like I am calling Steve. Lon I am going with YEW. What better wood than the one that grows right here in our back yard. I love Oasge but Yew seems to be a better fit. Let me know what you end up getting.
You need to ask around at shoots like that. I had a 57# one sitting in my truck all weekend long that I would have let you shoot. Mine has the zebra wood limbs and they look good. If the price is right on the used bow a little sand paper and a can of polyurethane is cheap. You can always buy yourself a new set of limbs.
I have a phenolic riser Nighthawk, with both the 48 inch limbs (68#@27) and the 52 inch limbs (55@27). I absolutely love this bow as it has replaced my Morrison as my shooter. I really like the 48 inch limbs and it shoots 700 grains of arrow like a rocket. I have a short draw which makes in easier to shoot than you guys with monkey arms, but I highly recommend this bow. The phenolic riser has a little more heft in weight which, in my opinion, equates into a smoother shooting bow. The shorter bow also enables me to shoot from a sitting position on the ground, in blinds, and is a dream tree stand bow. I got it primarily to hunt Stone Sheep this August. The phenolic isnt as pretty as most risers, but we are not trying to win a beauty contest either. Give it a try!
I love my 48" Cascade, don't get me wrong I like my 52" as well but my very first recurve was a 48" NightHawk and it just fits. The phenolic riser is great and ads a nice amount of weight to the bow.

I bought a Cascade Golden Hawk Magnum last summer from Steve. Black Locust limbs and bubinga and phenolic riser, 52", 48# @ 27". It's a great shooting bow. It is easy to shoot it as accuately as longer recurves, and it does not stack at my draw at all. Draws very smooth.
A friend in the club, who is a very good shooter tried it out and was amazed that he could shoot it so accurately.
Give one a try. Great bows.

Well as soon as I can get in touch with Steve I am going to order one. I just feel that this bow will serve me well for many many years. I am not a Recurve guy but I have been wanting a short bow for some time and after reading about this bow and Knowing that Steve is a local guy and with the guaranty that it comes with I can not beat it. I am going to get the Yew and I like that the riser has a accent strip down the middle. Looks way to cool. Thanks for all your help in making this decision.
Well I went and did it.... I called Steve and ordered my New 52" 55@26 Night Hawk with Yew Limbs. Wow am I excited and now the waiting game. Unlike Shrew I get to shoot this one in 60 to 90 days. I paid the extra money to have the Yew limbs and Steve said its about the best limb material. The black pin knots in the Yew will look great with the Black riser. SO all you Cascade bow guys that are going to Packwood lets shoot a round together. I am hoping my 60/65 fir arrows with 160 grain tip will shoot great out of it. I hate trying out arrows and finding a good spine. Steve thought they would be fine. Thanks again to all that gave input and mostly to Steve for putting that awesome video in my hands.
Don't forget to post pictures when it arrives. The Nighthawks are beautiful bows in my opinion. I've almost ordered one several times. You did right with the Yew limbs, I had pictures of that combo on my computer for quite a while and it is stunning. I'm envious, just might have to go ahead and call Steve myself!

I don't think you can get a chekmate in the magnum lengths (52 or 48 inches). Only Cascade sells those lengths in the USA.
I have a Golden Hawk Mag that is 57@27. Really good shooters for short bows.
