I was wanting to do some hog hunting before deer season and keep hearing people talk about hogs here in Indiana in big pockets of them in Ohio. Could someone give me some good reliable insight on some good public land or know anyone that would like to get rid of them on private land(you can PM me if you would like). Thanks for the help.

yes, there are hogs here, but all of them are on private land
I've spoken to several people in Ohio that know a guy that knows someone that swears he saw a wild hog once.
Heh.
GK, Now that's funny right there! I hear the same thing in Ohio. I've spent plenty of time in the woods here, just not seeing any.
You can shoot them anytime in Pa. I don't know of anyone who has ever seen one.
I have hunted S.E. Ohio for over 30yrs and have herd that they are around but have never seen one. We also have the "GrassMan" (Big Foot) that lives around Salt Fork area. :scared: :help:
Try hunting Groundhogs all summer. Plenty of them and they are great for getting your stalking and shooting skills ready for fall.
GOOD LUCK!!

A lot of people "know" people who have seen them. If anyone knows anyone that has them and has a problem with them give me a heads up!

I'm in SW Ohio and about 5 years ago a man was letting hogs loose on his 200 acre farm to charge others to shoot them. With no fences you can imagine the problems that has caused with them ruining crops and the local State Park's golf course. The game warden and park officers killed quite a few of them from what I heard. January of 07 I saw three of them crossing the road and they were of the Eruasian variety, not just feral swine. An again this spring when taking down a natural ground blind I noticed that hogs had been ruting the fields, too. But they are on private property and are spotted very seldomly.
I've been told the man who released them got himself in some amount of trouble over the issue. Understandably so.
As stated above there is / are a population of hogs in SE Ohio but not too many folks get to see them.
We have wild hogs around these parts, been plenty of them killed. I have seen them myself but it's been a couple of years. Jason
ok,go to ohio's dnr website, click on wild boar and the map will come up giving you the locations of confirmed kills and area's to hunt.we've been huntin them just about every 2weeks in zeleski state forest for the last couple months before turkey season come in.we've taken as a group over a dozen hogs ranging from 50lbs to 350lbs,all pure russian.oak hill area has a mixture of feral and russian.better eatin than any farm raised pig.ross, vinton, jackson county's hold the most hogs.
i must be the guy who knew this guy that knew that guy and who had mentioned to another guy that we've been killing pigs in zeleski state forest but by golly i've never laid eye's on a bigfoot, sachamo,or grassman in these parts nor read they're sign.i have smelled wild hog on the spit and have found it most pleasing though.
You'll be hard pressed (or should say - hard hunting) to find a free ranging wild hog in the state of Ohio. Have hunted 45 years here and still haven't seen one, although the state DOW says a few do exist.
Elkbow where are the hogs in Jackson county? I've lived and hunted here my whole life and never seen one but would like to. If you know somewhere I may be able to hunt them please let me know.
It would be nice to find some where in Indiana and Ohio, better than driving all the way down to Texas. Not that I have anything against Texas. I like Texas, but the drive, need I say more.

There was a picture in the local paper 3 weeks ago, a guy rifle killed an estimated 300#er in Zeleski state forest.
there was a article in the news paper a couple of years ago about wild hogs in Champaign Co. and the D.N.R. was asking that for hunters to shoot them as they (the hogs) are not native to Ohio.I've never seen one and hope I don't. I am not saying that i wouldn't like to hunt them but not at the cost of the damage they do to farm land.

If someone wants to chase them give me a heads up and we can plan a hunt or two when I am on my four days off on my rotation at work. Also have to get a few more arrows before I go hunting. I know I always have a ball down in Texas and can imagine how much fun it would be with trees around instead of head high bushes. We still got those darn rose bushes with thorns so it will be close to chasin' them down there in texas, just don't have the cactus!

hey buckeye trad hunter, are you familiar with oak hill area, all i can tell you is that we were hunting within a mile or so of the SWAMPS.only hunted there a couple times, plenty of sign but could never catch up with them.
zbone,we've killed over a dozen of them so far and from what i've seen they work about the same as elk,one boar will gather his sows and defend them against others.
if you go to the website the hogs are pictured in the small game photo's,don't ask me why.
elkbow,
What website? Me an a buddy of mine were wanting to hunt some pigs in Ohio.
