This is why the hogs are in these hills,(BARLEY). When the barley gets ripe it gets a head on it,it looks like wheat. Come evening the hogs are swimming in these fields. You can see the hills in the background, thats where the hogs bed in the daytime. Its so thick, you can be five yards from a pig and never get a shot.

Finding water sources and pig-rubs is a perfect tree stand opportunity, it's a great starting spot, recognizing the consistant mud rubs on trees, shows potential shot possibilities.

My hunting buddy (Bob) and I had setup treestands for our evening hunts, while, for our morning hunts, we would spot and stalk. Our first evening hunt produced lot of pigs, but we chose not to shoot due to poor lighting. Next morning we went our seperate ways, where I got into some bedded hogs and had a 35-yard shot opportunity, and nailed it, double-lung. The Hog went 60-yards before dropping. My partner Bob found similar luck, with a 100-yard stalk and a 5-foot shot.

My pig, field dressed, weighed about 180 pounds. While, Bobs' weighed about 250. (Don't be fooled by the picture, Bobs' kill was much bigger than mine)

Very nice. Where is this located? Are you near Santa Maria? We don't grow barley up here...
The hunt took place in PasoRobles Cali. Its a 9000 acers cattle ranch, and lots of hogs. :bigsmyl:
Wow!! Great shooting and great hogs! Did you use the skin?
That Delta is a killin' machine!
:wavey:
Jim, I had to cancel my hog hunt due to work getting in the way....let me know which Wednesday night and I'll see if I can find my way up to Verdugo Hills...
Hey Straitera, i did not use the skin, but i must say that hog had long hair and was in good shape. If it would of been bigger i would of mounted it.It was my first time shooting a red hog.
Hello Mike,Im sorry about your hunt,i was hoping you would get to try out that clicker on a big hog.I will call you when i can get away from work. :banghead:
 :notworthy:
Oh yeah, Passo Robles does have some big hog populations. I hunted a ranch out there once, it was a guided hunt and spendy at that. That barley is insane when it comes to attracting hogs! My guide knew EXACTLY where and when the pigs would be coming in. I figured he guided two or three groups a week and even with that kind of pressure the hogs would come back.
