Post by: bushwackerbill on April 19, 2009, 01:00:00 PM
I,m getting back into trad shooting after about 5 years off due to shoulder problems and am looking to get a new starter bow. Any opinions of Maddog bows from anyone? Thanks

Good bows. Reasonably priced. Mike is a great guy. You can't go wrong with a Maddog if you are looking for a starter bow new from the bowyer.

Great guy and a fine craftsman. My daughter has one of his kids bows and I just ordered a bamboo backed longbow from him.

Beautiful bow Big-un!  I have a Maddog longbow that Mike made for me maybe two years ago.  I didn't want anything fancy, just a good shooter.  My daughter loves it and has confiscated it from me so I need to order another.  Maybe I'll get one like Big-un's above.  Really like the looks of that one.  I have bought (and sold) more bows than I can remember and dealing with Mike was absolutely the best experience.  He is really customer oriented and a true stand up guy.  Nothing like a pleasant experience and a good shooting bow to make my world go 'round.  Not enough good can be said about Mike and his work.

We actually have two of Mike's longbows, and my wife is hitting me up for one of his recurves. Maybe I should add Mike to the checking account. It would probably make things easier.     :biglaugh:

The primitive bow I have from Maddog is the quietest bow I own.

Shot it 200 times this weekend at the Bugscuffle 3-d tournament hosted by Traditional Bowhunters of Texas this past weekend. The only noise you heat is the arrow thumping foam.

Fun little bow to shoot.

Thanks for everyone's input. I just got off the phone with Mike and he's going to make me a set of 50# limbs for my existing riser. Saving me about $2oo. Nice gentleman.  Now I've got to start thinking about arrows.
