I have heard usally $100 to $150 but to be more specific you would have to ask the one doing the refinishing.

Check on price and turn around time. You might be surprised at how long it might take.

Oh and one more thing-I gave up asking any of them how long it takes-it is all the same-none of them are even remotely aware of "time". LOL!!
Just my personal experience.

Check out Jim Belcher(he is a sponsor). I had him re-tiller and refinish a longbow and it was beautiful.

maybe move this to the collecters forum there are several good bow restoration folks hanging around that forum....I would check price turn around time and most of all I would check their references. Many many folks say they are pro bow restoration guy's.But they have only restored 1-2 bows. Its fairly easy to damage a bow in the restoration process if you are not careful. One other thought is the grade of materials used on the restorations. If one uses something like gun stock finish it will not last nearly as long as the higher grade 3 part finishes used by the real pros.Price can very alot because of material cost.Another thought is some bow builders do restoration. And again I would say if they have only built 2-3 bows you may want to check around.bowdoc

Let me preface this with the statement that Bowdoc is a dear friend and I think of him better than some of my family.

That said, and from a completely factual account, no ulterior motives, I will flat out tell you that Bowdoc's refinish work surpasses every finish from ANY refinisher or bowyer I've ever seen (yes, I said bowyer because none of their new bows look as good as his refinished bows). His humble post above belies his ability. His attention to detail is absolutely meticulous, if that's what you are after. I've seen 4 bows redone by him and they come out with an exhibition grade finish. I don't know if he's counted the number of refinishes he's done, but I'm sure the number is ridiculously high. He is an artist, plain and simple. If you want a bow to come out looking better than it was new, you will find none better.

Although my friend JC has been known to tell a few tall tales he is not exaggerating

After finishing a 100 or so bows
I do a good job of finishing but when I see bowdoc's work next my best mine looks like I used a brush.

I haven't seen bowdocs work so I can't really compare finishes... but I know droptine and he does a factory plus finish on old bows and and did a seminar at a bbtc clinic - he is very good at restoring bows. Jim Belcher fixed a bow I built that was left strung in a vehicle and the lambs on the upper limb separated. My fault for not geting all the moisture out of the limbs but Jim B. can work wonders with a bow that delaminates, needs weight taken off it or applying finish. I applaud the abilities of bowdoc and droptine but would trust a problem bow to Jim Belcher.. jmo

Regards,

Andy
