Scared the yell outta me!
I never get phone calls, and the voice was strange and used the name that Mom always called me when she was mad and wanted to beat my butt.
The one with the scary voice was Jim Neaves, and he has my riser milled already.
He also said that he will cut out the limb pieces-parts and get them all put together, and call me when it's done. Well, actually, he got all technical and stuff, and I tried to sound intelligent, but my brain was dancing like Snoopy in my skull.
He said that it should take about a week. I have a strange feeling that time is going to act a little differently now. And of course, I don't really expect it to only take a week. What's a week? I put in the deposit in February of 2008. That's been a while...I can barely remember February of this year. I did remember the expected completion date, May of 2009. Fourteen months. How the heck does anybody have the chutzpah to assume that they will even be alive in fourteen months? Don't people know what pitfalls are out there? Oh, that's right, we ignore them, and pretend that we will live forever. Shhh!
So I put on the bright face of confident, positive optimism and charged on ahead.
And ya know what? It worked!!
Shhhh! ;)
Killdeer~ I can do a week standing on my NOSE!

That'll make a beaut of a bow gal.
Good for you Killie. Lots of pics when you get it.
Killdeer,
I have one on order as well. What is the woods you have chosen for your's. I have almost decided on mine.... Thank you for your reply.
Froggy
What IS that wood??? Is that wood?
FINISHED PICS ARE A MUST, YOU KNOW!
nice...like Terry said that will make a Beautiful bow.
That is an incredible piece of curly koa, Frogster.
I lived in Hawaii when I was little, and some of my most vivid memories are from there. Koa is a very special wood to Hawaiians, and I wanted to carry the sharpness of awareness that I had as a child every time I carried this bow in the woods. The koa will connect me.
Archery, like photography, carries me full circle from where I am, middle-aged and a tad cynical, to where I was as a child, exploring and learning, with the wide open eyes and heart that gather everything, and regard them as special. I guess it's not just a bow, eh?
Killdeer
This sounds like a special journey.
Kathryn You are right,Mine are not just bows many memories.Enjoy your new and old memories and adventures.Kip
Good for you Killie, you have alot more patience than I do. But you know what they say, " Good things come to those that wait." That is a beautiful piece of wood. I can't wait to see what Jim does with it! :saywhat:
-Leonard-
Thanks for showing us your curly koa. I have limbs being made for my Zipper SXT from a sassafras tree that was cut over 10 years ago on the property where I shot my largest trad buck. It has to have mojo!
That piece of wood is pretty enough to exist just as a piece of wood. I'd set it on a slelf and take it down just to look at it now and again. When it is made into a bow... I will covet it! Can't wait to see it.
Killie you make every thing so fun:
"I tried to sound intelligent, but my brain was dancing like Snoopy in my skull."
I feel it is my job to keep on encouraging you to write. You could still play with your bows.
Cant wait to see your bow!! By the looks of the Koa, its gonna be a knock out!!
Killie,
Very well put, as always I might add. I like the ring of Frogster.... just might have to do a handle change. Good one there lady !!, and a fine looking piece of Curly Koa. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Froggy
Curly Koa is beautiful alright, and that piece is stunning! There is magic in that wood for sure!
I'm afraid it's going to be a llooonnnnggggg week! :jumper:
  :clapper: :clapper:
Whew...thank God Killy it was your riser wood...I thought maybe Little Mikey C was up to his old "phone calls".... :saywhat:
Wow, Kathy...that is georgeous. Make sure that camera battery is charged and ready for plenty of pics. I can't wait to see the finished product! :jumper:
Timmy & Lassie
Awesome Killie, looking forward to more pics!
That curly koa will make a beautiful bow with special meaning.
Looking forward to pics of the bow.
Killie,
That is a stunning piece of Curly Koa...I hope the piece Jim picks up for my bow is that beautiful.
Can not wait to see some pix of the bow.
Chris
That piece of wood is so pretty it almost doesn't look real, that will make a sweet weapon.
The customers hate it when I daydream while casing the mail. :goldtooth:
The wood almost looks like a piece if Tigers Eye.
There are so many good things in the world.
:D
Thank you for sharing that maam! and i can't wait to see the pics of the completed project! :)
drop dead gorgeous wood! koa is much prized, and makes for exceptional guitars, ancient hawaiian olo surfboards ... and knife handles, too!
Beautiful Killy. Are there any other woods in the bow and what are the specs???
Yep... that'll make a nice "Girly Bow"! Finished pics is a must as you well know Killy.
ak.
Girly Bow hell!LOL If that will make a girly bow then give me the sex change now. Thats an awesome looking pice of koa. Can't wait to see the finished product.
What LN said, Al!
Girly my butt! That gal, being much my junior, shoots draw weights that challenge my arthritic shoulders! :knothead:
Killie, Dear, you're jus gittin waay too many bows...want me to hold a few of the lightest ones for ya? I'll do that y'know! Bring em to B'mo! :bigsmyl:
Kathy,
Can't wait for the pics...won't be long now
Purty piece of wood there. Hope to see it in action at ATAR.
Wow Kathy, I can't wait to see the finished bow.
Jack
Killie, I feel your excitment! I got MY call from Jim a week and a few days ago.....
And guess what was on my porch today!
I won't hijack your thread, but you'll have to post your serial number.
That is one fine piece of koa!
That's right! You get to see if your bow has arrived by looking through the mail! No fair! Well I guess there are benefits to some jobs.
Truly a great reflection that bow will bring to you as you walk the woods with child's eyes but with a hunters heart. Good for you. We should never fully grow up!
Thanks, snaggle.
This bow will come from a different PO...I work more than twenty miles from home. Dangit.
The bow will be 56" long, and 46 at my draw length. It's the Elite model, carbon front and back. I did ask for some sheephorn on the tips. I was thinking snakes, but the wood is very busy, and so I decided to see how it looked with just the black facing on the limbs. Koa is the only riser wood, I figured that's all it needs!
I can always skin it later, if I feel the need for camo. Sure was hard to read the addresses on the letters today, with that beam in my eye!
Al...never mind!
It's better to rearrange your kneecaps in person. :readit: :knothead:
Killdeer :archer:
Very nice Killy! I hope it surpasses your expectations and becomes a truly special companion in the woods. Carry that onto the mountain and show our chestnut oaks what a tree can beome if it aspires to greatness.
I have seen some awesome figure in fallen trees in the Virginia highlands. I don't want to taunt the trees, though. I camp amongst some crotchety old maples. Makes you get downright philosophical when the wind comes up during the night.
Killdeer :scared:
Congrats.....gorgeous wood!
Really nice riser wood! I bet some banded water snake skins may looK good over black glass if you ever decide to cover the black. CK
Killie
As many have said, a truly beautiful piece of wood for the riser section. I do believe the black on the limbs will help the riser stand out and "pop"!
Looking forward to the pics!
A true reflection of its shooter!!!
Ooooooh Koa, oh I gots "chicken skin" as the Hawaiians say just looking at that insanely beautiful piece of wood. And it's just as surley to work with as it is beautiful to look at... more twists and turns than a Hawaiian creek! But once you tame it, oh does it make for the most beautiful art you'll ever see. I saw a Koa canoe with outrigger once that brought tears to my eyes, and a koa ukulele that I still covet to this day. The father-in-law can leave us nothing when he shuffles off this mortal coil, but that ukulele is MINE!! May he live a long and healthy life though. ;)
Very nice Kathy  :goldtooth:
I know what you mean about the wind in the trees and not taunting them....
Here's a thought....will there be enough of that beautiful koa block left to have a fellow trad gang member put a handle on a nice damascus blade? Just an idea so as not to see any of that wood go unappreciated.
"Al...never mind!
It's better to rearrange your kneecaps in person."
LOL I'm starting to notice a trend
I asked for some koa scraps, but that may translate to residual dust on the riser, depending on Jim's whims. He just sent me a pic of the laid-up bow on his bench, oboyoboyoboy!
Killdeer :jumper: :jumper: :jumper:
Koa is a stand alone wood,it can make the most normal thing look out of this world.
Killy beautiful taste as usual.
Juan I came back from Kauai with a Kanaka uke that's got some insane figured Koa in it.
Wow! I got a bow due from Jim around the end of the year. I was thinking of Bacote, but you may have just changed my mind. Can't wait to see the finished pics.
Jim says the wood is very lightweight, so if you like as much mass weight as you can stuff into a longbow riser, this isn't the tree. I figure if I have problems..uh, correct that...MORE problems shooting a wispy bow, I can always get some mercury tubes and install them in the butt of the grip.
:biglaugh:
Killdeer
The best to you and your new bow killie! :goldtooth:
Thanks Bowtough!
I cleaned up the picture a little, and made a few hopeful adjustments...

Killdeer ~I gots NO fingernails left!
Ahhh :scared: I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread.
Kathy,
Looking sweet girl, looking sweet! Make sure he cuts the shelf in on the right side so when you sell it I can have it. Didn't you tell me a while back you were getting me a b-day present? This would make a good one.
Mike
I ordered one for you, but it got swiped. I just saw it in the trad bow classifieds. Better run for it!!
Killdeer :jumper:
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :scared:
Well go see, Marine!
:knothead:
QuoteI figure if I have problems...uh, correct that..MORE problems shooting a wispy bow, I can always get some mercury tubes and install them in the butt of the grip
that seems like an awfull lot of work and effort to go to...when it would be much easier to just send it to me :bigsmyl:
This bow is too heavy for you, sweetie.
Killdeer
Ok, Killie, I've got to come clean. I have received my new Centaur!! Things have been pretty crazy around here, and I haven't taken any pics, until today! Larry, if you don't mind, I'll send you the pics, I hope you don't care to post some pics when you get a chance. Bocote with Ebony overlay and accents. 58" 48#@26". Shoots as good as it looks. Jim Neaves is a great guy to work with, and this is without a doubt the finest Centaur i've owned!! Thanks, Jr.
You mean we are all at Larry's mercy?
Say it ain't so!
Killdeer :scared:
be happy to Guss, I've got a new e-mail addy...it's listed in my profile.
to heavy?? I'll have you know I've been seeing a PT for my shoulder the last few months and I can now draw manly bows again  :D
Be still, O my heart.
OK, I'm locking up my collection. I hope Guss is busily writing the opening post of his bow thread. As he was the speed bump that was holding up my bow, he should at least entertain me while I wait!
Killdeer :coffee: :D
WOW!!!! KILLIE THAT IS ONE AWESOME LOOKING BOW TO BE  :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Larry must be kicking himself for not thinking up a way to kidnap Guss' bow.
And Guss must be the speed bump that was holding up delivery of MY bow. Not that the bow is late, it isn't due until May, and Jim never said WHEN in May. But this kind of work must have taken some time.

He has five more pics, but he only sent me these. The rest are on a Kodak online gallery thingy, and I can't pull the pics off it. Unless I pull a new trick that Rob just laid on me...
Naw, I figure I shouldn't worry my dinky little brain about it...because Guss sure won't, and it's his bow!
Sorry Larry! :p
Killdeer
Thanks Killdeer for posting the pics! Jim builds an awesome bow. Thanks, Guss
I really wish all you people would stop flashing pics of your new Centaurs....it's making me want to get on Jim's list again :knothead:
Congratulations Killie, That is going to be one awesome bow. I can't wait to see it. Doug
Believe me, you're on his list, Larry, you and Guss!
Killdeer :biglaugh:

...too bad about that huge stress crack running through the riser....haha I know "not nice"...
That will be a real keeper! Can't wait to see it finished, in your hands, and pic of a smilin' Killdeer.
Killie that is one sweet looking hunk of wood. I can visualize in my minds eye just how beautiful this bow is going to be. I'm hoping to see it this fall at the "Rough Mountain Rendezvous"....
Here are more pics of the bow's progress;

He sent me a picture at about 1:30 this morning. I know, I know, 1:30 AM in Montana is different from 1:30 AM in Virginia. But still!
He must sleep in.
Lemme load up the pic...he took it right before his wife printed out the label to send it. It is on its way here right NOW!!
Killdeer
Congrats! Too bad it won't be here tomorrow, so I could see it.
OMG! OMG!
Guess we'll get to see it at B'mo?! :)
c'mon girl, don't leave us hanging!!
Ok, Ok, but as I stated elsewhere, I think he and Larry are cut from the same cloth. Here is the pic he sent:

Is he sending it UPS?
...anticipation, anticipation....isn't it fun?!!! :biglaugh:
...that ain't right !!! .....
Killy,
Now honestly. I've heard that the finish he uses takes at least 10 DAYS to dry... Be mid-May before it shows up!
:knothead:
Hey, girl....that ain't no worse than whatshisface saying it was coming UPS!
You guys are murder. Here I expected a little support and commiseration...
Aw, who the heck am I fooling?
I know what this bunch is like!
Killdeer :smileystooges: :smileystooges:
Killdeer,
This is what we do for support and commiseration. Otherwise we'd all go nuts with anticipation while waiting for our new wonderful toys. Having your friends and family busting your chops takes your mind off of the wait. :biglaugh:
Your description of the koa proves Doug G's point from one of the other threads - your writing is a real pleasure to read. You have a joyful way with words.
It like Heinz catsup, ANTICIPATION is making me wait. Can't wait for the other pics Killdeer!
Remember the ketchup commercial?
Is your nose sore?

Be brave...
This kind of excitement is contagious...it can cure many things!!!
I`m excited for you. :D
Exactly Buckster! Hey, we've all been there. It just makes getting it in your hands that much sweeter. Happy for you Killdeer!
Did you get it yet, can't wait to see the finished product!!!!!!
It's Here! It's Here!
It's beautiful! It's strong! It says Killdeer on it!
I strung it up and it wants to play!
I'm not allowed to shoot it in the house.
I'm not allowed to shoot it in the house.
I'm not allowed to shoot it
Though I almost went and dood it
But I'm not allowed to shoot it in the house.
I'm going to the dog park, now, to shoot it, and then tonight is the weekly meeting of the Chagrined Again Hunting Club, which I dare not miss lest they vote me out.

Ms Killie, we are waiting :saywhat:
Well, it's dark outside, and I have to walk the dog and go to work. It'll prolly still be light when I get home, though, so I will try to get some pics then. I should take it to the archery park where there will be some good backgrounds for it.
And targets! :goldtooth:
Killdeer :jumper: :jumper:

no don't ban her...if she posts pics of the bow, by midnight; with her smilin face and targets.. double banner... :jumper:
Knowing Killdeer, she will have some great pics , worth the wait! Have a great day, Kathy!
One of Killies many attibutes is her picture taking ability. I am sure the pics will be worth the wait.

Tap, tap, tap, tap,..........
Just got back from Whittingham.....still no pics! Maybe there is no bow and Killie is just leading us on.
Ok somebody take Killie a camera, or a computer or something......waiting.....waiting.....waiting........
That's the problem, new computer, too many new photo programs, new formats, and no natural organizational skills. I am not linear in the least. New knowledge roils around and around until all the parts recognize one another and coalesce into a concept and a plan, somewhere in the back of my beady little brain.
It took me this long to get just ONE RAW-format image downloaded, resized, and saved as a jpeg and uploaded into Photobucket. I have very little concept of how and where it is stored, in all of its permutations, in my computer. And now it is almost ten, and I had hoped to be abed by nine...como siempre.
Here (hopefully) is a pic of the shelf side.

I need some water and some sleep.
I will work on the pics tomorrow....if I get back from the range in time!

Killdeer :D
Oh that bow is way to ugly to be carried around by such a good looking woman. Better send it to me ASAP! In my presences it would look sharp.
Very nice. I bet it's going to mean a lot to you knowing the history behind the wood you picked out.
:wavey:
I'm not a big carbon fan, not very pretty, but I bet that thing screams an arrow. That being said how does it shoot, was it worth the wait????
You big TEASE!
I shot all kinds of arrows, from breasted cedars to aluminums to tapered ash. Was the bow magic? Well, not in the floppy-eared warm-fuzzy Andy Griffith way that The Magic Bow grins and takes your hand.
More in the way that with a quiet "Thm", it teleports an arrow HARD into the backstop. She's a fireball, high strung and raring to go. She's a good bit like my dog, Spirit.
She takes a steady hand, and will fly off the handle if you get careless with her. I guess you can read behind the lines here, I was able to miss with this bow. She does not tolerate slop.
My 2013s were a litle flippy out of her. The ash was steady, but weak. The nice breasted cedars were too light in weight, the 2016s showed promise, especially when I put two into a baby poplar leaf at twenty yards.
So, maybe Ted has some 50-55 spined ash, maybe I have a dozen 2016 Autumn Oranges standing in a tube, meanwhile this bow will teach me how to hold my bow arm still and release as smoothly as water over a river rock.
I think Baltimore will be fun, carrying this firecracker!
Killdeer
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v249/Killdeer/TG%20Uploads/Archery%20Equipment/A%20Centaur%20Named%20Ember/IMG_1432640.jpg)
Mike, it will NOT be carried around by some pretty woman. If I even catch one LOOKING at my bow, I'll let the dog loose on her.
Ron, I am not fond of carbon's looks either, but this carbon isn't as shiny as I feared it might be. I am fond of the way that carbon maximizes the potential cast in a given draw weight. As I can handle only mid-forties if I am shooting a bunch of arrows, it is nice to get as much oomph as I can out of the weight. Push come to shove, I will take performance over looks, uh, up to a point. I am seriously considering some broad-banded water snake skins, though.
Long day, I think it is time for a toddy and relaxation. These new photo programs are driving me nuts.
Killdeer :coffee:
Very nice bow Kathy, enjoy it!
The grip looks really nice, I hope you can come to terms with that "fireceacker"!! Nice looking dog by the way>>>>>------->!! ron w
Quotemeanwhile this bow will teach me to hold my bow arm still and release as smooth as water over a river rock
now that's not such a bad thing is it?
and when it happens, that bow will put a smile on your face bigger than this :saywhat:
Funny you should mention The Magic Bow, as my buddy was asking me the very same thing Thursday night. Only, he capitalized the title, The Magic Bow, as an indication of the respect, admiration, yea, even awe that he feels toward it. I may start entertaining offers.
Or not.
Killdeer :)
or maybe he was just trying to suck up to you
by the way, DOES THAT WORK AT ALL? :biglaugh:
Snake skins..Oh Baby, now your talk'n!!!!!
baby? :saywhat:
Babies are the original suck-ups.
Killdeer :p
Beautiful bow! I can't wait to get my phone call!
Kathy, I agree with your thoughts on carbon 100%, if you have a short draw, or are limited in draw weight, the carbon helps to level the playing field. If the "Magic Bow" becomes available, I would be interested!! The new one looks great, what are the tips? Jim's tip's are nice!! Guss
They're sheephorn, Junior.
I would have to have a long talk with The Magic Bow before even considering the severing of our delightful handshake.
Killdeer
I have a question for you Centaur owners can you describe how they compare to a recurve as for smoothness of draw?
Kathy since my draw is 26&3/4 put me in line if you ever decide to sell, thanks Larry.
I have recurves that draw as smoothly as The Magic Bow, and recurves that draw like there's a mule backing up a ladder on the other end.
It all has to do with limb design, and where the bow stores energy in the course of the draw, and what the limbs are made of, how long they are, and what length draw the bow is designed for.
Balance this against whether the bow is a tad heavy for you, which will make you want to "attack" the string and get it back quickly, and your subjective feel of the bow will likely be different than mine.
Most everybody who has tried them tells me that Leon Stewart's longbows have the smoothest pull they ever felt. Every one of his bows that I have pulled has impressed me that way. This year at Baltimore I will pull one, and compare it against my foam-cored glass Cheyenne, and I bet there will be but a gnat's breath of difference. And I have no clue which will feel smoother.
Maybe you should get out there and do some testing your own bad self! There are worse ways to spend one's time. :readit: :D
Killdeer :archer:
Nice looking bow Killy.
Jack
Good looking dog! Enjoy and good shootin!
Very nice looking bow. Your Morrison might get jealous.
It is.
My new Centaur is on a rack. The Magic Bow and the Cheyenne are laying on top of one of the piles of archery junk in the living room.
I feel terrible doing that, but the racks are full.
Killdeer :)
Killdeer, Beautiful bow there!
That's a beautiful bow and an even better lookin' dog.
nice bow killdeer!
I knew I should have left that dang Jindo in the truck!
Every family should have at least one good-looking member. That's why we have a dog.
Killdeer
well seeing that you got so many bows killie dear send one down this way then that way ya can put ya Magic bow on the rack then ya wont feel so bad :biglaugh:
Quotethe racks are full
and I'M the one with a problem???
When I glom onto a bow, I generally keep it, Larry. I know, a foreign concept, but stay with me here. Because I rarely sell a bow, they tend to pile up. Your bow rack is worn to the bone, though, from all the wood sliding across it en route to and from all the corners of the globe, especially Montana.
Killdeer ~no problem! :archer:
ah...so the true black hole of Centaurs and many other bows is found somewhere in the DC area :scared:
Yup!
I have all two of them!
Mmwuuuuhhhaaaahahahahahaha!!!!
:bigsmyl:
At least you have them lying together on the junk! ;)
well, that may not seem like alot of them to you, but it's twice as many as I own :biglaugh:
leatherneck, I am hoping they will do the coathanger trick. :goldtooth:
Larry, I remember when I didn't have ANY! And you just laughed at me. :(
Killdeer (looking for nocks for these 2016s...I think they are under THAT pile.)
Gee Killy Dear...It looks like you have been spoiling yourself! Looks and feels great I bet. Nice to see you again! (MPS clinks his toddy into Killys internet one)cheers!
Holy Smokes!
Look who came to dinner! Haven't seen your Canadian grin for a coon's age! Lemme go get a clinkable and I'll joinya.
Yes, I am spoiling myself. I was hoping it didn't show. How's Hailey? How big is she now?
Killdeer :wavey:
now my dear :saywhat: I most certainly didn't laugh, in fact I took such pity upon you that I sold to you the one and only Magic Bow
notice not only the reverential capitalization but also the boldness of it :biglaugh:
Yessss, my Precioussssss, he speaks more respectfully of you these daysss...
Oh, didn't know you were there, I was just talking to, uh, the dog! Yeah, I was talking to Spirit here...where IS that mutt? She sure is hard to keep up with, by Gollum...er, golly!
:o
that is a very sweet looking bow Killie! the mojo is glowing.... you are not alone in keeping all your bows. I still have all 3 of the bows I have had made.
so have you got it dialed in yet?

...almost 8. She hung out with Doug Campbell for a few days, so now she shoots better than me! smarter, too...if you have any Centuar questions I am sure she would be willing to help! haha. The only things she draws the lines on are Manitee's and Shamu's...everything else she will let us shoot and eat! :)
MPS,
As I live and breathe, you still DO exist! You and M&M's!
Takes our own dear Killy to draw you outa the heavy metal din and grace us with your many breast feathered self? :) Kewl!
Good to see your post. Glad Haley's still ruling the roost!
Hope to see more of you hereabouts!
Great looking bow. How heck was the basket weave on the limbs done.
Hey Doc...nice to see you too. here, have an M&M. Killydear, carry on. :)
This is why a carbon-backed Centaur takes fourteen months to get finished. If you will notice, Jim called me a little over a week before the bow was "finished up" and delivered. The finishing up is easy, just a few swipes over a machine and a spritz of finish and she's done! The part that takes so long is separating out all the little fossilized carbon fibers from shale found in Jim's Montana mountain slopes, combing them straight and applying "product", and then weaving them by hand into a backing material. Jim can only sit on that concrete floor for so long before his legs go to sleep, and he needs to get up and move around and get the blood flowing again. Plus he has knots the size of hens' eggs on the outsides of his ankles from sitting cross-legged on the concrete.
This is worth every extra cent I paid him, though, for his discomfort and his time, as the bow's unique plaited backing gives it snap, fire, and durability that far exceed the techno-cool looks of the material.

SOO that's how it's done. :saywhat: I like how it only takes a spritz of finish.
Doc and the pigslayer!! all in one day. MAN!!! I miss the old days. :p
A handsome hound and a beautiful bow. Two of my 3 favorite things in one photo! Wow!
Nice bow Killy. Thanks for sharing.
A "double carbon" Centaur won the Walk the Talk get together, blowin' 195 plus at 10 gpp (22" power stroke, "regular" string). Translated, they are fast and efficient shooters. Love the wood choices. Killy there is a kind of rule, one must post a pic of the bow drawn, arrow and all, so can see the lovely curvy shape... and admire the bow.
Calvin good to see yer handle. Hope all is well up yonder. What do you hear from that lil orphan boy, Shane if I recall correctly? Hope he go plugged in somewhere good and taken root before this crash hit.
She is beautiful! Congrats Killy!
Hang around MPS...we wanna keep Dano happy. :)
1st I saw the woven carbon was on Ed Schlief's newest version of Griz Sticks. Tough stuff and very resiliant. So much better looking than the flat stuff for limbs I think.
Excellent call, Killy. :) And I will continue to let you believe what you will about it's earth extraction and fabrication!
:jumper:
'lo Draino. pass the lemonaide. please. :) David, I was just admiring the gossamer tips on your bows with Mr. Doug Campbell...he agreed that they were pretty awesome. He knows a thing or two about longbows methinks. I think of you often as the bows are on prominant display in my new house. I will keep my promise and drop some meat with them sometime in the near future...
Sorry for the intrution Killdeer! nice of you to share your stump. I see you havent lost your wit or creativity with words...I always did think you were an incredible person. I bet you know lots of stuff. :) cheers!
MPS, your intrusions are most welcome. Your extrusions, on the other hand...
I was pleased to see the ol' gang giving each other what-for again. I just got back from taking the requisite pics. While I was gathering props, the dog took the opportunity to do a little hunting. She killed a groundhog. Dammy they gots teef! As roly-poly as groundhogs seem to be, this fella was right skinny. Feeling his hams, he had hardly anything there. There was some sort of goo on one of his rear feet, too, looked like pus. We are not going to eat it. I am glad that this dog is well immunized, and she did not suffer so much as a scratch. She is grinning a little wide, and looks very smug.
I will have to download, edit, add mascara and subtract hair, and upload the photos, but I am fletching up some arras for tomorrow, though. And when I pulled out the trusty arrow saw, I found that the blade is broken. I'll have to use the one at the club tomorrow, durn it. I probably needed a different type of blade anyway, as the one on there is I don't know how old, and carborundum. What does all three types of arrows well? (wood, alum., and carbons)
It's a 3" wheel for a half-inch arbor. The motor goes way fast until you load it, and then it runs at about 7000. I think it is 23,000 rpm without a load. I better buy several wheels, because if I don't, arrow saws will be legislated out of existence, or they will stop making wheels because they put silicone or some such into the air and the Surgeon General will find that it causes acne in Californians, spotted owls or teenagers.
Time to put another fletch on.
Killdeer :D
Killdeer thanks for the weave explanation I had not seen it used before. Looking forward to additional pictures.
Shoot any thing causes acne in teenagers and californians, I don't know why you brought up spotted owls  I'd buy a whole case!!
Les, I beg your forgiveness.
I am an aging woman who has seen her dreams slowly eaten by the corpulent Machine of our society. But I'm not bitter! No, I just blunder along like the rest of us, getting what small joys I might from the passage of each day. That being said, I hope that you do not despise my smallness when I admit that like Huck Finn, one of my indulgences is the occasional lie.
An ordinary lie will not do. The fun of a lie is not in the lying, but in its embellishment. I must embellish and adorn it with little baubles of semi-plausible half-truths, while its bones, though they appear stalwart, are flights of the most outrageous and idiotic fancies that I can procure in my limited brainpan.
And so, Les, I admit that I made the whole carbon-fiber story up, though bits of truth lead one down the greasy hallway like the aroma of roasting turkey may dupe a student into entering a school cafeteria. I seriously thought that you would take my half-baked story with a pillar of salt, and resoundingly laugh me out of the halls of sober and scholarly pursuits.
For this I apologize, and now must live with the knowledge that in future you will regard my posts with skepticism, viewing them askance with guarded eyes and hardened heart. A reputation takes a lifetime to build, and but a moment's indiscretion to destroy, and although I knew that lesson, I must now live with the shame of having destroyed my own credibility.
But I know that in the future, should I see the opportunity to tell a whopper, I most likely will.
I am weak.
Killdeer
(I have no clue how the woven carbon fabric is made.
Truth.)
Killy it is a pleasure to witness your wit. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
excellent!!! :notworthy:
Mps and Killy done swallered a dictionary or sumptin'.
MPS,
Yup. Killy know stuff. Watch her hold court with young'uns at B'more and teach them about flaura and fauna is something to behold.
No fractured fairy tales of woven carbon source or sorcery.
But whatever that was she penned there last, kinda sounded like Arlan Spectre's of late
You runnin for office or sumpin, Killy? :knothead: :biglaugh:
No wonder Jim thought I had a screw loose when I called and asked If he would be so kind to take me on a fossilized carbon hunt and teach me the basics of the cross-legged application technique.
When asked where I had gotten such a crazed notion I replied.
"I saw it on the net."
Jim "Umm which one"
Me "Tradgang sir, so it must be true"
Jim "and who posted it"
Me "Well sir her handle is Killdeer but some call her Kathy."
Jim "Son you have a lot to learn...let me tell ya a little about Killy and the Magic Bow.
Many moons ago...
must we keep mentioning the Magic Bow in this thread :banghead:
I just got back from shooting with Pat over at NORVA. I like this bow more with every shot I take. It likes 2016 arrows cut to my length with 175 grains of point weight. 2016 is SO much more convenient than 2013, if you like tapered nocks instead of Uni-bushings.
I got some pics yesterday of the bow at full draw, but it is past my bedtime, and I am beat.
Magic Bow! Magic Bow! Magic Bow! Magic Bow!
Killdeer :D
Les, whatever Jim told you...he can't prove it.
was hoping there might be a picture or 3
Bless you Les! I am up past when I wanted to be up...I am beat, and it isn't even nine yet!
My learning curve isn't quite as sharp as it used to be. Organizational skills are zilch. I did manage to get one full-draw pic up, so that you can see how this bow bends. I think it is a perfect fit!

Killdeer
Kathy, looks good to me!!!
Must say I like your style and the bow looks like it can fling an arrow
I don't know  It looks like it bends a little too much outa the fades.
Seriously? If your happy, it is a great fit. Awesome full draw shot, Bernie would love it.
Oh crud.
I guess I'll take this one to the Salvation Army, and tell Jim to try again, and tiller it right next time! Thanks, Drano, your insight and experience are most valuable.
And expensive.
Killdeer
What are friends for?? :smileystooges:
Drano, now thats funny! I guess your remarks or advice just went down the tube!
They've never been up the tube Frank
Anyone else notice the intensity of concentration in that damsel's stare?!
I've seen that look a few times at B'more and laughed it off...seeing it in action, kinda makes me tremble just a bit...
Thank Gawd that gal tolerates me and respects her elders! :)
that was the first thing I noticed Doc, the intensity of that look. I think I've gotten that stare a few time via the internet...but was able to shrug it off.
But actually seeing it makes me kinda :scared: :scared:
larry ;)
I've gotten it in person at B'more shoot...even to the point when I made some irreverant comment, I distinctly remember her hubby, Clark, with his eyes wide open and backing up--fast!
I too have survived. Thank goodness for the depth of that gal's heart! :knothead: :bigsmyl: :notworthy:
Errr, Killie... WHICH Salvation Army?!?!? :saywhat:
Road Trip!! :jumper:
Ohh, baby, lemme tellya; the prognosis is not good for anything or anybody downstream of that look!
All hands, emergency stations! Scotty, full power to shields! Mr. Sulu, evasive maneuvers, warp 9! Mr. Checkov, ready a full spread of phasers and photon torpedoes to cover our retreat! MOVE, people; this is no drill!
But, I manage to deal with it. It's in the contract. :readit:
What can I say? I love her.
Uh-oh; umm, gotta go now, folks. Seeya later...
OMG Clark got the look
It takes a big man to live with and love a good woman, some don't live long, but it's good. :bigsmyl:
Clark, may the force be with you.
It's all good, bro.
Nice pic. Thanks for posting.
I'd say it bends perty, and you got a nice way back anchor and solid straight shouldered form. I expect it makes cast like a house afar.
I don't pay no tension to a woman's looks... err facial expressions.
