Title: Just got back from coaching 4H practice!
Post by: koger on April 13, 2009, 08:08:00 PM
Well guys I hadnt made too many posts since letting you all know I had started helping coach our County 4-H team Archey Team. We have about 64 kids involved, most pretty serious about it. I am working real hard with about 12 shooters who shot recurves, and we are getting a lot more interested. I explained to them, that for the one entry fee, they could shoot, barebow[genesis compound}, bowhunter-compuond with sights, and recurve-barebow. Well this means that the kids can get to shoot 30% more with the recurve added on, and a lot are getting interested. I have been teaching them to shoot instinctive, point their bow fist, anchor good, pull through and look at what they want to hit. Some that had been really struggling with the recurve all of a sudden had things falling in place and shooting good groups! One little girl, who had shot the barebow compound well, really took to the recurve the last 2 weeks, and when she picked up her comound started shooting it instinctive and shot 2 of her best scores ever, 25 of 25 for 5 shots, 2x in a row. She is 11, her name is Grace, aka Amazing Grace. She has a pink bow, shoes, shirt, and pink vanes on her arrows. I told her that Pink Mojo she had going on was her secret weapon. As you can tell, I am having a ball, loving this, and it is really therapeutic for me since I cant shoot for 3 months after shoulder surgery, can still be involved with archery. The parents and kids seem appreciative that I am helping, but I told them that I was the one reaping the benefits. Have a good one all.

Pretty neat, aint it. This is, I think, my 6th year. We usually average 100 +/- kids. Just started our postal league last week. We usually shoot the blue face targets for a half hour then balloons for a half hour. We started up a K-3 program a few years ago. Watching the little ones bust balloons makes it all worth while
