Well, we've finally gotten the tooling finished and have built a few of the 56"-58" 1P bows, and boy are they nice! Finding a short bow that stores energy like a longer bow is the trick. This one does.
I just tested a 58" bow a few days ago and it only stored 1% less energy at a 28" draw as our longest (64"-66" 3P and 1P) bows. Dynamic efficiencies were equivalent, so the short 1P offers within a nat's whisker as much performance as our longer bows. I couldn't be much happier!
The bow I tested wasn't finished so I didn't take any photos. Just got off the phone with Larry and he will have a couple ready for photos in a day or two.
If anyone has been thinking about a nice, short 1P bow I can highly recommend this one.
I for one would be very interested. I hope I get an opportunity to shoot one some time.
Congratulations John! That sounds like a winner! Hope that you have a lefty or two at Compton to try!
Thanks Chris. I'll see if we can get one (a lefty) put together for you to shoot. Say hello to Brier for me!
John,
Are there any plans to chop these 1 piece bows in half? If so what lock-up configuration do you expect to use?
Can your one piece longbows be custom ordered now?
Mike, right now we don't have any specific plans to chop them in half. I'd have to say that there are ZERO 2P-takedown mechanisms or schemes that are perfect in my own personal opinion. Larry and I have talked a lot about the need to come up with a better way to turn a 1P into a 2P, but that's on the back burner for now. One thing I know for sure - we don't want to offer a 2P takedown system that we're not satisfied with.
Hank, yes, the 64"-66" and the 56"-58" 1P bows can be custom ordered now.
John, I'd sure agree with that 2P problem. After owning 4 different kinds, my advise would be to make the rise out of phenolic, cut the limbs off on an angle and bolt 'em back on for a 3 piece. I think Stotler used to do that. Never owned that, but I'd never buy another 2 piece system that's in existance now.
Bowmania
The one thing that I can bank on is that the boys at A & H will engage brain prior to making any quick decisions, particularly on the two piece issue. And I know whatever you decide you'll do right for the Traditional Archery community.
Personally I've had several different types of 2 piece systems, i.e. the Talon Takedown, the Bow-Bolt and the BW Locket Socket. Locket Socket is by far the best in my opinion. Seams to be the simplest, strongest, no loose parts to misplace on the trail. But I can't speak toward production difficulty nor patton rights.
This 1 piece concept and the further evolution into the 2 piece realm is the natural maturation of the company's product line. Exciting times John...I'm happy for you and Larry.
Mike, thanks for the kind words. I agree that the sleeve/socket system is by far the simplest and probably the most fool proof. The grip shape is somewhat limited by that option, however. I don't know if it will work well on our more reflexed (forward grip) 1P bows like the shortest one, however. Anyway, it's a good question to ponder.
Here are a couple of photos since folks have asked:

Boy John, that sure is a fine looking bow!
John,
I believe that's the bow we shot when we visited a few weeks back. It was impressive, smooth on the draw and very fast. It's a keeper for sure.
Mike
Very nice John :notworthy:
Great I said I was not going to order anymore bows and now a 56" one piece ACS you got to be kidding me. I guess one more bow isn't going to hurt.
Very nice looking bow !!
You guys are top shelf in every respect..
Sweet looking bow
SSSWWWEEETTT
Guys,
I believe I shot this bow with Larry at GrandValley Sports.
I almost tried to buy it on the spot, one word AWSOME!
John,
What the availability of the Bow? And at what lenght would i need for a 29.5 to 30" draw? Doe the grip come in Low, Med, and High?
Hi John,
We're building the short bows right now, as well as our 64"-66". Delivery times are in the 2-month range I believe.
I'd not recommend the 56"-58" bow for a 30" draw. It will go that far (I draw 30" and shot a couple of our 58" bows quite a bit). But it's not what I'd recommend. The 64"-66" would be as smooth as butter and is better suited for a long draw like yours.
Eventually we'll have our 60-62" 1P bows ready to go, but the machining of the bow molds and all of the CNC fixtures are not yet done for that one. It will be able to easily handle a 30" draw but I still think you'd be happier with a 64" or a 66".
John,
Back when OL was building only one piece bows and pre-CX he offered the shorter bows. I think he developed them for Mike Gemind from WV who had a 26" draw. Mike went by the name Shrewshooter until he started shooting the short ACS bows. I think Mike changed his board name to Beartracker at that point. He really raved about the short bows. Had he had the opportunity to shoot one of the short ACS CX one piece bows I'm sure he would have been shouting from the mountaintops! Mike passed away within the past year or two. It may have been a bit longer, my memory is not as good as it once was! :)
Bill
John,
I currently shoot a BW recurve and was looking into geting a LB, with that said I have never shot one and I really don't know what to expect. Would a bow like yours be similar to a recurve grip and would I retain the same draw lenght or would I lose some? Also I know we are not to bring up that taboo subject of speed :bigsmyl: but what could I expect in comparision to what I currently shoot 60" BW PSA 55#@30"
Now you're talking fellers', love them short bows!! Will you have some to try out at Comptons?
James
Bill, although I never met Mike in person I felt as though I knew him from his posts here on TradGang. All of us lost a good friend and ardent archer when Mike passed.
John, you can get most any grip on these longbows that you want. The standard grip on them is pretty similar to a BW recurve. You should end up with exactly the same draw length. Regarding performance, let me just say that I don't think you'd be giving up anything at all and you might come out ahead just a tad.
James, I hope we can have at least one or two for folks to try out at Comptons. Better send an e-mail to Dan at the shop in order to put that bug in Larry's ear!
I really like BW bows BUT they have never, never even compared to my new ACS CX. But to be fair, neither has any other bow I've shot. :archer:
Well I couldn't help myself new Bacote 56" 52lb@27" one piece on order for me as of this morning. Now the painful waiting for the new bow starts all over again.
That bow looks sweet, its added to my wish list. I am all for you developing a 2 pc.
:banghead:
I hate you!!!!!
Great looking bow John.
Does anyone know if the limbs (back and belly)are black?
Lon, there are 4 layers of carbon in the bow - two on each outer surface of the limbs. So yes, the limbs are black on both the back and belly. It's our quad-carbon recipe.
Sounds tasty John.I am salivating allready.Cook one up for me please.
For all you lefties out there:

John,
When will the 60"-62" model be available? Please don'tell me a long time!
John,
Anyway to post some pic's of it full lenght profile strung?
Here ya go - strung profile: http://webhosting.web.com/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://www.acsbows.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/Risers/56inchOsage002. jpg&target=tlx_picnky4 (http://webhosting.web.com/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://www.acsbows.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/Risers/56inchOsage002.jpg&target=tlx_picnky4)
The 60"-62" will be at least a couple of months out. There's a lot of machining and fixturing needed before we'll be ready to go with them.
Nice lines John.
Beautiful profile !
