Title: WARNING Don't make the same misake I made
Post by: slick on April 12, 2009, 02:06:00 PM
This is an FYI WARNING concerning Arizona Archery Z Nocks. I bought some at the Cabelas down the road to replace a couple damaged nocks (I had just moved and all my supplies were still in boxes somewhere in the garage). I failed to read the fine print on the back of the package, BIG MISTAKE. These nocks are not compatible with Fletch-Tite. The package says this glue "will distort the nock", well what really happens is they explode upon release! It won't happen on the first shot, but within 10-15 it will happen.

The end result in my case was a career ending delamination in the top limb on my go-to, shoots like a laserbeam, sleeps in my bed at night, first thing I would grab in case of a fire, BW MAII. Oh, did I mention the weekend long depression. This isn't a slam against Arizona Archery, it was my own fault. I'm one of those guys that always reads the instuctions (it's the engineer in me), but this time it didn't happen.

If I can save one life with this post, maybe I can put some kind of meaning to this sensless and tragic act....

Slick

Ed, they were 60", RH, 66# @ 28". Needless to say they let out a pretty good crack with their final death cry.

Wow..glad to hear that there was no dammage to you. As hard as it is to take you can always get another set of limbs. You can never replace an eye. Sounds like the chemical reaction of the glue and plastic that Arizona uses crystalizes the plastic and makes it brittle? Seems to me Arizona would be better served to change the plastic compound a little to make it compatible with most all types of glues rather than putting a disclaimer on their product. Most everybody has used or uses fletch tite.

Don't be too quick to blame the glue.  I stopped using those nocks b/c they kept blowing up regardless of what glue I used.  At the time I was told I "must have received a bad batch"  The replacement nocks did the same thing.  The only thing I use them for is masking off the taper when I spray a crown!

I'm sorry about your BW.  Horrible way to go.

Never had an issue with them and have used them for many years.Usually a broken nock is because the string is much too big for the size nock you are useing.Either way if your bow broke because of a single dryfire I think it already had issues that maybe you could not see. Most all bows will hold up to at least a few dryfires unless something is already wrong with them. jmho

Why in the world would an archery company, make a nock, that is not compatable with one of the most widely used archery glue's out there ?

Wow, I've had the same thing happen a couple times with those knocks!  Now I know why.  Fortunately my MAIII didn't de-lam.

I bought my mine hand to hand from a local pro shop.  He never mentioned a thing, probably didn't know either.
