After much anticipation, I recieved my new Silvertip recurve Monday morning. I have spent 3 days shooting it, and to say I'm happy with the bow would be an understatement.
The bow is 58" long, 55#'s @28". The riser is Rosewood Dymondwood, with a Chechem Flare, Hawaiian Curly Koa limb veneers, with a Koa overlay on front of the riser. FF compatable, medium checkered grip.
The grip on it is great with just the right amount of palm swell. Dave is a lefty also, and that only aids in getting the grip just right. I've seen a few right handed bowyers get a lefty grip pretty close, but having a left handed bow built by a lefty bowyer is hard to beat.
I need a little help posting pics, so my buddy Mike Walker will come to my rescue on that shortly.
The bow looks great in the pics, but they in no way give the bow the justice it deserves.
I had a pretty good idea on what I wanted, but Beth and Dave both played a huge hand in picking and matching the woods.
Beth and Dave are the best, and they are more than willing to go the extra mile insuring that you get exactly what you want and what you're paying for.

Dave can shoot both right and left handed , does that mean he ... you know swings both ways?? LOL, Congrats you just got yourself an awesome Bow!
-
Congrats on the new Tip. Dave and Beth are some of the finest to deal with.
-
Pics, Pics,Pics !
-
Sergio....I refuse to jump into that one since I shoot both left and right handed....I'll leave that swinging part up to you and Dave to decide EXACTLY what that means....LOL, although I prefer shooting lefty....you just can't go wrong having a bow built by a man that shoots the same way you do.
-
I'm itching to see those pics Billy!!! Glad you like it. I still may have to "fine tune" my order a bit after seeing your's.
Oh Mike....... :bigsmyl:
-
I agree Billy , and Beth an Dave are the best, tell Mike to hurry with the pics LOL. If he's asleep at the computer i will post them for you. Hear that Mike. Hee Hee.
-
They make a real nice product
-
OOPS ! Spoke too soon! WOOWW !That is one gorgeous Bow , who picked out the woods???
-
Billy , Im so happy for ya...Mark
-
Sergio....I picked out the Koa limb veneers, and the Rosewood riser, Dave and Beth chose the Chechem flare. Dave had originally wanted to use Golden Wenge for the flare, then he decided it was too plain and didn't have enough grain detail..... The Chechem in the flare really matches the Koa great.....I think he did an excellent job.
-
Thanks for posting the pics Mike....you did that just in the nick of time....the natives were getting restless (:
-
Welcome to the Tip club. That is a very fine specimen indeed. I've shot a few of the top notch recurves and the Silvertip is definitely one of the top few if not the nicest one I've ever laid my paws on.
What arrows have you settled on? Mine is 50 lbs @28" and loves the 3 rivers Traditional Only 500's.
Enjoy

Wow! I love that curved accent stripe! Happy days to you!
-
You are definately not making my wait any easier with those pics!!!
-
Tom. Dave recommended an elevated rest, so he set it up with a Bear Weatherest. This is the 1st bow I've shot with a rest, and I wasn't too sure about it, but decided to give it a try. I have shot 2016's, Vapor 3000's and 4000's, and 60-65 tapered POC....every arrow has shot great out of the bow, so I'm quickly becoming a believer in the elevated rest. I'm probably going to shoot the POC arrows more than anything else, but so far I haven't found an arrow that It doesn't like....the least finicky bow I've ever shot....not sure yet if It's the bow itself, the elevated rest, or a combination of the two....all I know is....I LIKES IT.
Billy
-
LOL....hang in there Allan....the wait is agonizing, but definitely worth it.
-
Oh....one other thing....I intentionally didn't show the off side of the riser for fear of exciting another Tradganger....I guess you might say the bow was personalized....kinda, in a way...not the normal hand written name you see on most bows....I had this name burned into the wood.....I'm not giving the name, so he'll just have to figure that out for himself....LOL
-
Billy I thought it would be hard to find a better looking Schafer than what I bought off you, BUTTTT you have done it :)
As far as arrows goes , I have never saw a bow that will shoot a varity of spines like these schafers will. I know it is because they are cut past center.
Grips are what makes a bow IMO and these checkered grips are the best, period!
Congrats on a beauty of a bow!

Billy Shipp you are a piece of work! You haven't responded to my email so I guess your still outside shooting that "purty little thing"!
My hats off to Beth for choosing the woods! What an awesome combination! I'd have to say that is by far the best looking silvertip I've ever seen! :clapper:
So tell us a little more about this secret wood burning on the riser :( You darn Texan's are an aweful sneaky bunch always leading us on....
I'm happy for you Brother! You had one "tough" winter and deserve the best Dave had to offer!
Quick question: What made you smile more, the new bow or the 24 PINK Balloons I sent you after your little procedure a few months back?
:biglaugh: :biglaugh:
-
Billy, glad you like your new bow, it looks great I know a lefty if you ever need someone to take it off your hands and it isn't Tim.
Beautiful bow.
Bill

Hello Mister Golder....I kinda figured the special name burned into the bow would get a rise out of you, but like I said....I ain't tellin nutin.
The bow does shoot really nice, and I'm very pleased with it. I tip my hat to Miss Beth for her tireless efforts in the creation of this bow.
The bow did put a smile on my face for sure, and the PRETTY PINK BALLONS had me busting out in laughter at a time when it really did hurt terribly bad to even grin....and I still hold that against you.... however, nothing can hold a candle to the big grin on my face each and every time I walk into my bow room and look at the 2 smiling faces in the picture sitting there. The memories and excitement of getting a new bow will eventually fade, but having that picture to look at will bring a smile to my face every day until I leave for the happy hunting grounds.

Mr. Maxwell....what are you doing online at this hour? 9:13 is way past your bedtime?
-
VERY nice bow Billy.
A very deserving person for a bow that pretty.
Shoot it with pride.
DEATHMSTER
-
Whoa, Whoa, Whoa now Bill....don't jump to conclusions about it being Tim's name on that bow....would you do ANYTHING nice for a guy that sent you Pink Ballons when you were down and out, just so he could have a good laugh?
Billy
-
Very Nice Billy.. Tim you've hurt my feelings. I thought mine was the prettiest I'd ever seen.LOL
-
Ooooohhhh, that is a NICE one. Dave and Beth both know what looks good on thier bows, that's for sure.
-
Billy, Do you have a picture of the Bear Weatherest that Dave reccommended?
-
Jack Jr, Maxwell, Deathmaster, groyce and Steve O, thanks for the comments.
Deathmaster, the rest is nothing spectacular. It's just a rubber stick on rest with the flipper sticking out to sit the arrow on....I'm sure a lot of our sponsors carry them....they run around 3-4 bucks, but I'll be more than happy to email you a picture of it.

Here is how Dave sets his up for hunting:

Thats a work of art. Awesome Looking bow Billy. I'm feeling your past waiting pains. I should receive mine at the end of next month
-
Send this beauty up for the morning crowd!!!
-
Billy congrats on the new tip, it sure is a beauty. Great choice on the woods.
-
I lucked into a Silvertip last year and bought it. I didn't know what I got till I started shooting it, wow, you are going to love it. I got it and a extra set of limbs and a bow case for a little over 500.00. Even a blind hog finds a acorn once in awhile. Did I mention the dozen arrows and a new string.
-
Thanks for the compliment Fred.
Wolleybugger....Don't you feel the least bit guilty for stealing that bow? Shame on you....you show no remorse at all (:
Bows are very subjective, and as individual as the folks that buy and shoot them.
I doubt many of us have been blessed with the opportunity to try every bow out there, but I have been fortunate enough to shoot more than my share through the years. There are no generic bows that will suit everyone's taste and shooting style, but I have finally found the recurve that is right for me....I'm still working on finding that just right longbow, so now I'm wondering.....could it be one of Dave's 3 piece longbows?????....maybe a Charcoal Dymondwood riser with an arched accent stripe, Charcoal limbs skinned with some nice Diamondback skins....kinda sounds like another brain storm has been hatched....time will tell.
Ya'll have fun with whatever you chose to shoot.
Billy
-
They have come a long way since the "old" straight stripe days. BILL
-
Thanks for the pics Mike. We all know who comes first!
-
Beautiful.
Congratulations.
-
wow billy that is a sweet looking tip!!!
congrats my friend.
-
Very nice combination. Great bows. Hope to see my three piece long bow in the near future. Have fun. Jeff
-
Jeff,
you will love your 3 piece longbow. I got mine a week or so ago. They are sweet.
-
Hello Joe, Thanks for the kind words.
groyce, your 3 pc longbow is extremely nice. How do you like the grip? I've only seen pics of the grip, but I'd love to shoot one. Is it basically the same grip as the recurves?
Billy
-
Thats a great lookin bow!
-
Billy,
I think the grip is maybe just a little narrower. I shot a recurve when I was at Dave's a while back, and the longbow seems slimmer. Maybe just due to the slimmer overall design of the LB. I like it though, but if I do it again I would probably go with the high wrist grip. Maybe just a little more palm swell.
-
That is one gorgeous bow Billy
-
Beautiful bow! Great wood choices.
-
Thanks Chris & Bjorn....I am very pleased with the bow.
-
Billy,
OUTSTANDING >--------> CONGRATS :thumbsup:
-
I wraped my handle with a piece of rawhide boot lace, it was too narrow and that seemed to do the trick. Shoots and fits a lot better.
