The bow....54" Original Shrew. 56@26 so 62+/- at my 28". I have been playing with skinny carbons due to the shallow shelf on this bow.
I have been shooting full length 340's, hundred grain brass insert, with a 225 grain field point. I think they fly well, and my buddy Damon agrees.
Now, I know they are way overspined(80-85#), and with over 300 up front, they hit hard. Im wondering how 400's(60-65#), with say 225 up front, would compare? That would allow more options for points...judos, field tips, and BHs without building my own with glue ons and adapters.
Am I in the ball park with the 400's and my thoughts, or should I stay with what is working and order a bunch of stuff to assemble? What is your set up?

I've had good luck with the 400, full length, 100g insert, 175 pt, out of a Classic Hunter #58@30.

400's with 125 grain points.They should do the job quite nicely.Regualr inserts too.If I run into you soon Ill let you try some.Im mostly shooting 500s now from 46 to 51 lbs bows.These arrows will last forever.Theyre really tough.
A buddy has me wondering if the 400s will be heavy enough for the weight... Doing the math, I would be in the 550 range. Kinda light for 62#, isnt it?
Almost 9 grains per pound. I don't think they're too light.
I find that length has more effect on spine than weight. Always start longer than you need and cut down to stiffen. More length also gives you more weight by default.
longbow. They shoot terrific. I have 100 grain brass inserts and 125 grain tips. Good tough arrows.

Sorry about the previous mess-up. I meant I shoot 29" Beman Classic 400's from 55 to 57 pound recurvevs and a 55# longbow. The longbow also likes the same in 500"s. The 400's weight 557 grains and the 500's weigh 625. Great arrows. Bowmike

OOP'S. 500's weight is actually 525 grains.
I am in agreement with the 400's, but dang those 340's must hit like sledgehammers! Might be good to keep some of the 340's around for busting pork chops! :thumbsup:
That they do trip...impressive. I have no pigs around here though...I got a P&Y stump yesterday and it buried up to about three inches before the fletch.
Keith, I think Im leaving the 340s long, might cut the 400s to 29.5 if thats what I go with.
Having a hard time deciding which one to go with...I know the 340s work, and I think the 400s will...and I could always get weight tubes, or something to beef em up a bit. Ah decisions.
