One of my favorite times of the year
More updates to come as I get more pix and video.....
 Nothing like a little anticipation :D Good thing that tom got his mission accomplished :D

A few evenings ago i had about 6 toms walk behind the house. unfortunately i wasnt hunting... :banghead:

Name em yet? :saywhat: Nice looking birds and great area...
Good stuff Kurt! I was so looking forward to chasing spring turkeys with the Longbow but something came up, my son graduated from hunters ed yesterday so I transfered my tag to him! We hunt next weekend and then if he doesn't fill it, then we have the next Wed - Sun to try again! This is going to be the best hunt of my life, I can't wait! We are ready!
Go get em Curt! :campfire:
Cool...Turkey Porn... :goldtooth:
Man I wish I lived in Turkey country so I could scout more easily...
I just got selected for jury duty right in the middle of my 3 day's off (mid-week)on opening week of Turkey. Bummer...
This perp is goin-away for a looonnnnggg-time. :D
Spot n stalk turkeys is a blast!!
Nice! Up in my neck of the woods I have not seen much activity yet. Our winter was a bit tough, I hope the birds did'nt get to beat up. We'll see soon enough.
That'll get you in the mood Curt!
Last night we watched a tom breed a hen down near the ponds behind our house. About a half an hour later, the whole gang was right up close. Three adult gobblers and half a dozen hens. I applied for the area around home as my first choice, but drew a different area instead! :banghead: :banghead: Sure would have been easier to walk out the back door.

That's cool Joe! Glad that NY has statewide tags, must be tuff not being able to hunt close to home where you can really keep tabs on them.
Found these 3 fellas courting a couple hens in another spot that I've hunted in the past. First I've seen a turkey in this spot since last fall. But every year, for the last 6 years or so they show up in April.....

Doing much of the same Curt, unfortunately most of my "Watching" is on private land. Numerous flocks with strutting toms and plenty of ladies.
I need to find some hunting grounds around here, and the time from work to get out and put an arrow in something...
Best of luck to you this spring brother, and share with us your successes and them times when they give you the slip.
I always enjoy your pics Curt...Looking forward to this hunt...
Best of luck to you too Jeff
Thanks Bill... you know I feel the same about sharing your stories and pix...always look forward to reading and looking bud :notworthy:
Ok here's the results of this mornings scout....Another one of my perennial haunts....I was there two weeks ago and there wasn't a bird to be seen or heard...went back this past Sat. and was pleased to see two nice long beards...one obviously dominant over the other...I believe it was "Gilbert" from last year(almost had him the one time Cade and I hunted him).
This morning I saw these guys...three jake's and one long beard..I don't think it was "Gilbert"...but certainly not a bird I'll pass up....

I have another spot in mind for the morning...
Looking good
Looks good! If you need some new mouth calls PM me your addy.
Good job Curt! Hope in 3 weeks I have the same luck that you are having now.
Good luck bro!
Love seeing how you always give everything your 110%!
Ryan
Looking good Curt, definitely a target rich environment.
Sorry Curt, but we get to start this coming weekend! Well the kids do. Our youth season opens on Sat. and my daughter and nephew are pretty pumped. Neither have ever hunted turkey before and they are about to get the thrill of their lives when that bird sounds off at 15 yards. The birds have been sounding off pretty good here. I'm just as pumped and I won't even have my bow(is that even legal.LOL)Looks like you got a nice flock there. Good luck! Wont be able to show pics cause the kids are too young to hunt with a bow yet but I'll sure tell the story.
Mike
OH MY.......  Guru is loose AGAIN ?? :clapper: :clapper:
Thanks for the well wishes fellas....and good luck to you too!
Charles, I might take you up on that bud  :notworthy:
Been scoutin' every morning to some degree, and so far everything looks pretty good and getting better. All but one spot has consistently had birds. But I'm pretty sure before long a few will settle into that one spot also.
Nice having some time to watch things develop. Work is an any day thing now as the weather gets better. The opener is on a Fri. this year, it sure would be cool to be able to hunt the first 3 days of the season!

"The Count".....I've seen this bird 2 times now and both times he's been in a tree a good hour after normal fly-down time. It's almost like he stays up all night and then sleeps in. Both times I've seen him in this spot,he's been alone
some highlights from the last few days....
"Gilbert" he's back from last year.....
And a contender that's hanging around, "Bellbottom"...
"Gilbert" again....
Haven't watched these fellas enough yet to figure out any nick names. But any one of them will do just fine come May 1.....
This fella was feelin' his oats Sat. Morning...

Curt, you are a lucky man. I would trade my best pair of boots for a spot to hunt like that. Good for you, hope you stick one. Our opener was today, got wet from a 2 hour down poor. Got to hear a hen, I think (public ground). I think I was the only one in that part of the woods. Did not hear a gobbler though. Always tomorrow!!!

This was yesterday...
Had gobblers on both sides of me, two were across the road. I knew they'd try to join up with the birds on my side of the road, so I just sat down and waited to see it all unfold in front of me. But then this uninvited guest showed up....
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/turkeys/th_moreturks019.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/turkeys/?action=view¤t=moreturks019.flv)

With the coyote on the south side of me, I hear wings flapping and see a gobbler land about 70yds away. As he hits the ground I hear flapping again and a second bird hits the ground behind the first....
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/turkeys/th_moreturks022.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/turkeys/?action=view¤t=moreturks022.flv)
That first bird caught me a bit as I turned away from the coyote to film.....
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/turkeys/th_moreturks023.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/turkeys/?action=view¤t=moreturks023.flv)
Both gobblers....
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/turkeys/th_moreturks024.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/turkeys/?action=view¤t=moreturks024.flv)
Turned back and the coyote was still there about 40yds away. You can see him lifting his nose smelling the gobblers, but it knew something wasn't quite right(me)....

It's amazing what's out there to witness, ya just have to get off the couch to see it....I've said it before, I love scouting as much as do hunting!
I would say things are looking pretty good for "Cy" to score on a bird. Good luck, looking forward to seeing and reading the story as it plays out.
pretty cool footage of that coyote! wonder how many birds he has feasted on.
Thanx Rob....I'm pretty happy to have ruined that coyote's breakfast plans...too many around here...
Dang Curt, that's some great footage and a bunch of birds. Turkeys don't have a chance in just a few weeks...and I suspect the unwary coyote who wanders into range won't either.
Keep your fingers crossed for me bud...
This morning....
"The Count"....he's got a couple hens with him now. But he's hangin' in one of my favorite places to set up....
Dang Curt, looks like you need to get the coals stoked and the dutch oven ready, your on them good!
Best of luck on opening day!
CKR
:campfire: :coffee: Great story so far bud!!
Thanks guys....It's killin' me having to wait while so many guys are after them already :(
These are the same birds from the very first pic of this thread. For the time being they're safe where they've been hangin' out....but I hope they break-up, or move as a group onto the other piece of ground I can hunt. One of them has a double beard, and a couple have huge hooks :help:
Curt, I gotta ask. Is it private land? I know around here I am constantly contending with other hunters...has me second guessing using a bow...
Curt, I would say it won't be long before you are eating turkey. Good luck bud.
Jack
Good Luck Curt....Can't wait to see pix of ya with one of them big longbeards....
Great pix Curt...best of luck to ya when the season opens.
Thank fellas
Jamie, I hunt lesser spots trying to stay away from other hunters. But they're always a factor in my hunts, or should I say, where I hunt.
My friends know where I hunt, and I know where they hunt....we respect each others spots. But it's the other yo-yo's ya gotta worry about!
I try to hunt smaller areas also, areas that gun hunters might overlook....
I bet it`s getting hard for you to concentrate on much else.
Maybe they are trying to bait YOU out. Turkeys DO eat meat ya know?
Are 'yotes still fair game where you`re at?
Man, you got a LOT of birds there. I have never seen that many except in fall (when seeing 20-30 at a time on my place is common). Seems like they have all disappeared since season opened around here...
I'll just live vicariously through you bro!
JC, 25yrs ago you couldn't find one around here. I used to have to drive two hrs to find birds. About 10yrs ago we really started to get a bunch right close by.......Now there's plenty!
There's a lot of places within an hr that are way better too...
This morning I went to a spot I hadn't been to in a couple years and was pleasantly surprised.......found these three fellas all alone!
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/turkeys/th_moreturks049.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/turkeys/?action=view¤t=moreturks049.flv)
Ya wanna talk about ripe for the pickin'!
Good luck Curt, Birds on my two properties have gone real quiet. I watched a nice Tom walking in the field this morning. Not a peep from him and he was real cautious. Gotta find out what the problem is. I think some people know when my work vehicle is gone. Cant wait to see your pics!
Great stuff Curt! Good luck to ya. Make sure you keep a tag for Faith.
I wish you the best Curt. I just found out I start back at work on opening day...Guess Im gonna have to wait even longer now.
Almost got one today with my honda...but that wouldnt be the same. ;)
Guru..won't be long..4 days and a wake up.. before you have a bloody arrow
Things are looking good for opening day.....
"Gilbert"....
"The Count" and a buddy....once again proving his namesake by staying in his tree til an hour after daybreak...very strange.....
Couldn't be more excited for opening day! I'm even more fired up for Saturday when Cade will be with me
