I am looking to get some really sweet looking curly koa and just have not found a good connection yet. I don't need alot but I really need quality. 2" by 2" by 18" piece would do it.
thanks, Jim
I used to see a good bit of it on the bay.I don't know if it is dry or not.
It is hard to find it in riser dimensions.
There was place out of HI. on ebey that gets some nice koa.Go into crafts and down to woodworking and type in koa.
good luck

They might have some. Bue--.
I was looking around on the web trying to identify some wood on a bow and I seen a lot of sites that sell it to musical instrument makers and it looked really good. just google it and you should see some, if you don't try different words and such.
Aloha woods on the big island
I can check with Martin & McArther, a local wood shop here in Honolulu if you'd like.

Hello Killdeer.
That scary blue face,he he.
How are you? Bue--.
Go to www.theveneerstore.com (http://www.theveneerstore.com) and contact Kevin. They have some awesome veneer woods. Not sure if they have block wood or not.
How long before you can shoot a bow or ride a bike if you put NAIR on your "Curly Koa"?
The is one person on the **** that sells piece large enough for risers and limbs and it is top notch...it's also top notch prices if you know what I mean.
Josh
aw shoot...if that's fer killy just stain up some ol' junk wood ya got layin' around...she'll never know the difference :biglaugh:
You may also want to try and find some curly australian blackwood. It is in the same family as koa and has a very similar look. I don't really know where to get it but I have seen some guitars with it and it looks extremely similar to curly koa. Good luck
Larry...I will remember, and you will pay.
And pay.
And pay!
:knothead:
oops :o :o :p
Were you perhaps entertaining idle dreams of The Magic Bow once again gracing the embracing arms of your junkwood bow rack, sweetie?
:saywhat:
well....you did call me sweetie, so all hope can't be lost :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
A Godfather's kiss, my dear.
Killdeer
Larry, you've done it now.
Thanks everyone,I found a piece that I do believe will make one of the absolute prettiest risers I have ever seen.
Jim
I have a bunch and might be able to hook you up. Traveling in the morning so will be gone a while to answer a response.
Koa is fairly soft for a riser.
I will be adding some layers of glass internally to the riser so it will stiffen it tremendously. No worries then!
Jim
Sounds like that will be beautiful.
My local wood supplier has some four in slabs of curly and mottled Koa at $36 bf. One slab would be over $300 and you'd still lose some cutting out the premium wood. Expensive stuff, but beautiful.
Soft? I cut into one piece an it seems hard as a rock, granite not shale.
It burns as bad or worse than purpleheart or chechen.
